Ultimate Direction PB Adventure 3.0 16L Hydration Vest reviews and deals for sale

Professional Runner Peter Bakwin was the catalyst for the design of the Ultimate Directions PB Adventure 3.0 Hydration Vest. After years of creating his own packs, Peter teamed up with Ultimate Direction to create the high-capacity, bottles-up-front running pack he wanted. Like many runners, Peter found that water bottles were a much more elegant solution to hydration bladders, which tend to slosh around and make it hard to refill on-the-fly. As a result, the Adventure Vest touts a bottle holster on each shoulder strap, which locates your hydration where it's easy to grab and quick to refill. Behind these holsters lies a harness made of light, flexible, and breathable knit mono mesh material.

Because of the direct integration of the eight-liter mesh compartment and the carrying harness, the PB has a seamless feeling that you'll swear is an extension of your own body. You might be asking yourself where the PB Adventure 3.0 differs from earlier versions of the pack, and while much of the pack remains the same, the 3.0 now includes ice axe loops, trekking pole straps, and increased capacity.

Big improvement over previous-gen vests

This review is as much a review for the pack as it is the new soft body-bottles. Together they form a great combo. Previously I couldn't get comfortable with the hard-bottle on the front arrangement, the sloshing and bouncing just grated on me too much. For long activities I tend to use a hydration bladder in the back with plain water, and a soft-bottle or two up front with an read more electrolyte mix (usually Skratch) mixed extra strong up front. Sizing wise I'm right between the small and medium (6'1", 160lbs) size. I opted to size up and don't regret going with the medium. It still chinches down nicely when it's lightly loaded, but if I'm wearing a few layers, and I've stuffed the pack to capacity it's still comfortable. To make this product a five-star in my book, I'd like to see a looser pocket up front to stash garbage. That's just a personal preference, but I've always found it easier to eat while moving if I can stash all my spent wrappers in one easy to access pocket.

The perfect pack for big objectives

Hands-down the best pack I've used for self-supported trail ultras! I've put the PB 3.0 through a couple of self-supported 50ks and quite a few shorter trail runs, and I couldn't be more impressed with this vest. It fits snuggly and comfortably all day long (don't forget to adjust the "hidden adjustment straps" in the side pockets!). Unlike other packs I've tried, the 3.0 is stable read more and well-balanced while running without needing to redistribute weight to the front of the vest, even when stuffed with 10+ pounds of gear and water. This vest also has TONS of space and attachments for anything you might need for your long-distance adventures (read: crampons, ice axe, trekking poles, extra food/water, warm clothes) and a pleasantly absurd number of pockets to keep you ultra-organized/hydrated/fed/sunscreened/warm/etc on your next run through the mountains. The front burrito pocket is a great addition, and fits a second soft bottle. Super easy to clean, and the provided soft bottle is a great size for electrolyte mixes. It doesn't come with a hydration bladder, but it easily accommodated my 2L Hydrapak and I picked up a second soft bottle for days with less water access. Easily my go-to pack for future mountain missions!

Love UD Packs

UD makes arguably one of the best group of running packs on the market and caters to all different distances. These packs are durable, fit snug and are designed for the pickiest of runners. I have run for 6+ hours in these packs with no shirt and never had any sort of chafing or any issues. Very easy to clean as you can easily throw them in the washer along with your running clothes. read more These vests come with soft bottles which are fantastic! Don't be skeptical, just try them out.
