Zipp Service Course Stem reviews and deals for sale

More recently known for their advances in the world of carbon, the engineering wizards at Zipp have shown they still know and value innovative aluminum componentry with the Service Course line. Zipp continues to impress us with its Service Course Stem, offering a highly functional design that originally addressed the needs of pros and now is available for the rest of us. It provides exceptional stiffness, lightness, and positional flexibility, but it does so at a reasonable price in comparison to more expensive, often heavier stems.

Zipp 3D forges the Service Course Stem from 6061 aluminum. This forging process aligns the grain structure of the aluminum, giving the material strength that allows for a thin-walled final structure and smooth shaping that complements today's sculpted carbon frames. Zipp uses durable stainless steel TORX head bolts on the stem to provide consistent, precise torque readings, and the bolts are more difficult to strip than traditional hex-head bolts when making pre-race adjustments.

The Service Course Alloy Stem is offered in a range of seven sizes from 70 to 130mm in 10mm increments. Each length is available in two angle options — the ±6° option is ubiquitous these days, but the ±25° models remind us of a bygone era where stems were dead flat and oh-so pro. It has a 31.8mm clamp diameter and is a perfect match for Zipp handlebars, and the 1-1/8" steerer clamp has a stack height of 41mm.

Excellent for the price

4 stars cause it’s not carbon fiber, but for the $$ it’s excellent!

Gooseneck

I searched all over the site to try and find a stem that had a ton of positive rise in the shortest possible length. This was it. 25 degree rise in a pretty stubby 75mm length was the ticket. My wife is newer to cycling and did not like the aggressive posture of her road bike compared to her mountain bike. I needed a way to get her handlebars higher to help reduce the numbness read more she was getting in her hands. This was a big part of the end solution. Super stoked this stem comes in such high degree of positive rise!

Not quite old school

Not many remember when road stems only came in -17degree. Luckily times have changed. Pretty light, stiff and inexpensive plus you don't have to be bent over.

Pretty good

This stem isn't the lightest ever, but its fairly stiff and does the job cheaply.

It's Square!

How do you review a stem? I haven't got a lot of ride time in on this one yet, but my old bars & stem were approaching 10 years old, so it was time for a change. It's black, it's stiff, it does its job holding the handlebars. Surprising light for as chunky as it feels size wise ... I think a big part of the stiffness and size feel is due to its square profile. So far I'm pretty read more impressed. Not overwhelmed, but impressed, especially for the price.

Seems solid

I wanted to try out a shorter stem and play around with micro-adjustments so was shopping mostly for value. This stem fit the bill nicely. Installed easily (torx wrench was included), looks nice, and seems solid. Planning to pair it up with some Zipp Service Course ergo bars on my cross/commuter bike. No complaints.

Does its job.

I got this stem as a more cost-effective way to test out a new stem length before going all in on something super light/carbon, and it did its job perfectly. Super solid, for sure a little heavier than more expensive options, but overall seems pretty bombproof. Which is pretty cool, so I'm giving it four stars for utility. Styling-wise, I'm not a huge fan of Zipp's new squared-off read more stem design. It looks weird and boxy alongside my Cannondale's rounded tubing. That said, I have a Service Course SL stem on a Niner BSB 9 RDO, and the design looks better paired with that frame's tube shapes.

Reliable stem

This is a reliable stem that I went with when I just needed a different size to get the job done.

Quality item

Nothing about this stem to dislike. It isn't anything amazing, but it is a perfectly fine stem. You will need a t25 torx to install and adjust.

ZIPP

I was very surprise by the change in design this year. Not only because of the logo but also the handlebar stem was completely redesign. I love the way it looks on my bike. The colors go great with my bike. Very happy with my purchase.

I believe this stem comes with ss bolts, not Titanium. Your write up says ti, specs say ss. Thanks

Hello - I noticed there's a 60mm option. Can you confirm this is true?

The spec table says ±25°, the narrative says ±17°. Which is it?
