First Paddle Success

This is the first paddle I've purchased outside of using generic two piece paddles with no bells or whistles. This particular one stood out to me because of the adjustable feather angle and the fact that it's Werner. Their company really stands behind their gear so it's hard not to opt for one of their paddles when it's at this price point.

Good all-around paddle

I have used this paddle for touring around in flat water and slow flowing rivers. The blade size is ideal for a bit of endurance as well as recreation as they are not very broad but still can move you through water nicely. The 2 piece shaft is great for transporting or storing, and the connection is flawless which helps maintain good rigidity and power in each stroke. The slight read more oval carbon shaft is comfortable, and smooth in your hands, and the seem and the release button at the connection are almost undetectable. The adjust able feather was a feature that adds to the versatility of this paddle. Its it marked for 0,15,30,45, and 60 degrees either left or right but the design allows for any 15 degree that you would want beyond 60 as well. The length depends on the size of the boat and paddler height and charts can be found to help determine those. Overall, great paddle for the price, and backcountry is great about shipping quality and speed as well as great customer service, so its hard to beat. Definitely recommend for beginner to above average paddlers on flat or slower water.

Great first paddle!

I asked one of our kayaking experts what would be a quality paddle at an affordable price and this was it. I have been using it on lakes for cruising around, swimming, and getting to cliff jumping spots. It is a solid lightweight paddle with the carbon shaft and feather angle options. The 2-piece design makes it easy to store and transport.

Werner's Great as Usual

Light weight, feathered, adjustable & nice bright color to find in wet exit...what's not to like.

Great first paddle

Just bought everything I need to start enjoying some time out on the water and this paddle has been great so far. Love the 2 piece design. Makes it easy to pack in the car and carry around. Also I'm glad I went with Werner because of the carbon shaft. My friend has an aluminum paddle and while it works fine, he said his hands were freezing at the end of our adventure. Drip guards read more seemed to work just like they should and I was stoked on the feathering option as well. Not sure what my degree offset should be yet but it's nice knowing I have the options. All in all a perfect choice for someone just getting into kayaking and a company that I will be coming back to.

Novice, but love it...

Guided to this particular paddle from my Backcountry Gear concierge (Eric...fantastic to deal with), and super-happy with it. Feel of the shaft is great, good function in both paddling, connecting, and disconnecting. Based on all the great feedback on this brand and model, I look forward to many years of happy use ~ and would certainly add that buying through Backcountry was read more superb for me/us.

I like being able to adjust the angle.

These paddles are great. I use them for sea kayaking with my two prodigy kayaks. I like that you can adjust the handle so the paddles are twisted in different directions if you want to get creative with your paddling.

Great bang for the buck.

I looked at comparable paddles and they don't match Werner quality at all. The Werner shaft just feels better in your hands and the connection is smooth/flush as can be. Hand positions on shaft are oval shaped for proper hand placement without looking at blades all the time. The paddle angles are very adjustable with many different settings using hidden notches within the shaft. read more The paddle feels very light and easy to swing. I am under 6' and use a 250cm with my 30" wide Native Ultimate 12 and it is perfect for low angle paddling. I went to Werner website paddle length guide and their sizing chart was right on.

Nice Yak paddle

Light, strong, two piece that is clearly marked for feathering, goes together and apart easily. Really like the "hooked /brown" color, although calling it "hooked" made me think it had a different shape at first. Anyway, slight oval to the shaft is very comfortable and ergonomic. Can't go wrong with this fine Werner product.

Works Great

This paddle is very nice and suits my needs just fine. I use them with the Jackson Big Tuna, which is a wide and heavy tandem kayak, meaning it does not track as well as other kayaks and can be harder to maneuver, and this paddle manages the job. One thing I especially like about this paddle is that both pieces come apart easily, even with plenty of saltwater use. I own a different read more paddle that can be a bit difficult to pull apart, I don't have that issue with this paddle. Also, when the two pieces are joined together they never feel loose, it feels like one solid piece. The drip guards on the paddle do not block all water from getting to the paddler, but I do not know of any that do, so do expect to get a little wet. The longer blades on the paddle help for long journeys. I use this paddle for touring, as they are less exerting than my other paddle with shorter fins, which I use for power, when my kayak is loaded up with all my fishing gear. If you're looking for a paddle for touring, or just a good all-around paddle, this is a nice choice.

Good all around paddle

The paddle is a great two piece paddle that easily separates for storage or transportation and is light and strong enough for paddling any number of boats at various locations. Also the angle is easily adjusted for your needs and can be quickly changed if the wrong angle is selected.

Werner Skagit Paddle

Very nice basic paddle. The two piece design allows for offsetting the blades to different angles, at various degrees in either direction. And a view finder tells you the exact angle offset. Even though there are many lighter paddles out there, this paddle still feels lightweight even after a long day of paddling. And the drip rings will help to divert water away from you.

Basic, Does the job great.

I got these at my local kayak shop and have been using them for about a year. The ends have seen a bit of asphalt and are still in good condition. The joint where the two halves connect has seen all the saltwater and wear that is to be expected in a ocean-going piece of gear and they still slide together and apart without involving a buddy. I like the slightly oval shaft where your read more hands grip, and the three positions are all I need to get my fit, change it to straight shaft for my friend when he uses it, and I guess go lefty in case I ever meet a lefty kayaker. All in all, good gear and well worth the price.
