Werner Kalliste 2-Piece Carbon Paddle - Straight Shaft reviews and deals for sale

On long paddling excursions, small inefficiencies can add up to fatigue and pain. The Werner Straight-Shaft Kalliste Carbon 2-Piece Paddle is light and bouncy so your strokes aren't squandered and paddling translates into propulsion. Light swing weight increases your endurance since you're not trying to move a steel Yugo through the water. The combination of jaw-dropping geometry with a perky performance core creates a powerful mid-sized blade to take your on-water abilities to a new level.

The mid-sized Ultimate Performance blades keep the Kalliste light on the scales and heavy on paddling power. Carbon fiber weave covers the foam core at the heart of the paddle. Not only does this design minimize mass, but the foam core helps the blade float out at exit. The asymmetrical blade shape gives your low-angle stroke an immediate bite on the water from the instant the tip slips in. Dihedral stabilizes the blade as you power through the stoke. You know you've hit the jackpot when your paddling pals comment on your flutterless (and flawless) stroke.

Since Werner didn't make the blades super-heavy, it also avoided having to add a spine in the shaft. Instead, the designers used light, stiff carbon fiber for the straight shaft. As a result of the light shaft and buoyant paddles, your energy input is maximized so you can paddle in pleasure, all day long—and still have the strength to reel in a 40-inch striper after a bit of a tussle. The Smart-View adjustable ferrule system lets you feather to your heart's content, regardless of which way you feather. Right or left, the Kalliste adjusts in 15-degree increments. In both light breezes and stiff winds, you'll be able to accommodate the weather. Be it angling on a moonless night or frolicking in feisty surf, your performance kayaking gets kicked into high gear with this lightweight and graceful paddle.

great paddle!

I am an intermediate level paddler that mostly kayaks on flatwater lakes with some calmer ocean trips, I have a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145. I do have some occasional left wrist/thumb tendonitis and shoulder arthritis, as I am 63 years old. I've been paddling about 10 years. I have been out kayaking 150 times this year, so far, since we live on a lake and COVID has kept us read more home, which has not been so bad! This paddle is so light it's amazing, it has a powerful stroke and can really pull some water. It does sometimes have an odd "vibration/whooshing" sound when the paddle enters the water, maybe from the foam core, depending upon the blade angle and force used in the particular stroke, but I have gotten used to that and it no longer annoys me. I am a little afraid about hitting rocks in the water with the blade, and hesitant when pushing off the dock or shore with it because I'm afraid I'll break it, but have not had any problems. The lightness and efficiency of this paddle will help keep me kayaking for many more years. It is well worth the money.

Handy and Quick!

I used this paddle for a fun day trip out on a reservoir. It was light, easy to adjust and is perfect for paddlers of any level. I loved the grip and feel of it. Great paddle for all occasions!

So fancy

This paddle has a great feel. The paddle easily splits apart and seamlessly reconnects and feels like a one-piece paddle. Lightweight for long days on the river. My one complaint is this paddle is on the shorter size for a 6'2" person. If it was available in a slightly longer size it would likely be 5 stars in my book.

Ridiculously lightweight

The paddle is light and strong. I picked this up for the first time and compared it to my other fiber paddle and the difference is staggering. Seriously, it feels like I'm not even holding anything when I'm moving around with this paddle. The adjustment for feather angle is pretty cool and easy to adjust without is sliding around. It has the ability to be at 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, read more 60°, 75°.

Carbon goodness

Light, strong, swift, all the properties you want in a paddle. Adjustable 2 piece that looks and feels like a solid shaft. Fully carbon throughout shaft and blades. Very stiff and responsive.

Go carbon fiber and never look back

I had been using my Werner Skagit paddle since I got my kayak back in 2010. It served it's purpose. Then I was lucky enough to win an award at work that came with a lovely cash bonus. I tried to think of all kinds of things I'd love to get but would never spend that kind of money on myself for. Then it hit me: a new fancy paddle! I did some research on bent vs. straight shaft, read more women's specific designs, etc. Then I saw this paddle, liked the specs, saw good reviews in some other places and decided to take the plunge. As soon as it arrived, I giggled with delight. I couldn't believe how light it was! Almost half the weight of my old paddle! I already knew I would be saving tons of energy by using this. My suspicions were correct. I can paddle for hours with no fatigue because it's like holding nothing at all. Only once in a great while will I notice any flutter. I did have to adjust my stroke a bit and go to a lower-angle, but it was a natural transition. I'm often in choppy waters and windy conditions and this blade handles it flawlessly. I often insist people try it when I paddle with friends so they can know what they're missing out on >:-D I can definitely spend more time on the water now, and that's always a good thing. It's been over a year now and my paddle is holding up great. Only one or two scratches, seems to be better in that regard than the Skagit. Also love that the blade angle numbers are etched into the shaft rather than the sticker (which eventually fell off) the Skagit had. No more trial and error to get the fit just right. Yes, the price tag is steep, but aside from the boat, this is the single most important piece to kayaking, so why not get the best tool you can? Especially when it can increase your comfort level. Do it.

Worth the price.

I have used this paddle for up to 30 hours at a time over multiple days in both rough and flat water. The low swing weight and efficient blade shape has reduced my fatigue, aided my form tremendously, and I would imagine has saved me from injury. I can get some flutter from the paddle if I loosen my grip too much - sometimes necessary on multi- day trips, or if I go for too read more high of an angle. However, this is much less than other paddles I've tried. (I stepped up to this from the Aqua Bound Stingray, which admittedly is more of a universal shape and as a result gets more bite with a high angle dig.) With an efficient low angle stroke, it's a joy to feel the power transfer and to end a day feeling as fresh and relaxed as when I began. In addition to day paddles, I've completed several multi-day trips and expedition races, broken 1/2 inch ice and pushed myself off oyster beds. The paddle has held up well and apart from a few scratches, looks great. Worth the price
