Uvex P.8000 Ski Touring Helmet Reviews
Seth Barnes
February 9, 2017good middle ground option
This helmet is great for those looking to do fast and light tours, without having something extremely breathable like some of the ski mountaineering helmets catered more to the "climbing" audience. The function of the helmet and headlamp cradles (as mentioned)are useful, yet not exaggerated. The liners of the helmet are removable so when the warm spring days roll around you can… read more still wear this while hiking up in the sun and t-shirt. In the end great option for ski mountaineering with more of a "skier" focus and less of a "climber" focus.

January 10, 2017Good option for skimo
Nice lightweight helmet that seems like the best option out there for for skimo as it's fully certified for alpine skiing, climbing, and biking. Helmet is lightweight at 10.9oz. It has Boa adjustable sizing for a nice fit. That said, the head cradle seems flimsy and I bet this is where the helmet will eventually fail due to the lightweight materials used. Chin strap clip has… read more a nice micro adjustment on it so you don't have to adjust the strap length generally. It's also easy to do with gloves. Goggle and headlamp keepers are included but they're passive so they don't fully lock the goggles to your helmet. That said, goggles have stayed put while touring. Not bad but not perfect. Comes with removable ear flaps which are a bit tricky to get on and off so I just leave them off for touring. Has two liners as well, one is a light winter cap and the other is mesh for more venting. Venting is passive overall. The helmet could use more venting holes for warm temps but cool enough to tour in with with the mesh liner and ear flaps removed. No MIPS but it does have Recco which is a nice plus. Good package for ski touring and ski mountaineering. Have some doubts about durability but overall happy with this purchase after a half dozen uses. Will update if I have more to add.
