Topo Athletic Terraventure 2 Trail Running Shoe - Men's reviews and deals for sale

If your day doesn't feel quite complete without the feel of dirt and rocks under your feet, then you'll love the versatile performance of the Topo Athletic Terraventure 2 Trail Running Shoe. Built to be an everyday trainer that can handle quick pre-work runs and longer weekend excursions alike, this shoe is equipped with a Vibram rubber outsole that grips on any trail surface, and features generously spaced lugs that shed mud and snow with ease on those days when you're out in the slop. A protective yet flexible rockplate sits in the forefoot, guarding against unexpected roots and rocks but still letting your foot move with way it needs to on steep slopes. Speaking of movement, the wider toe box of this shoe accommodates a natural toe splay for an easier ride, while cushioning in the midsole and footbed gives you that extra boost of comfort and support you need when you're going long.

Smooth on pavement or trail

This is a trail capable shoe that is smooth and with only moderate cushioning that also runs well on pavement. The wide toe box provides good room for the forefoot to splay naturally, but it’s not so wide as to be sloppy when running on rough terrain. Fits me great — don’t know about you, so...up to you to decide. And it’s super durable, like all Topos. I run every read more day (yeah, I’m one of those) and get 500 miles out of every Topo regardless of the model — I’m on my second pair of Terraventure 2’s, and had the Terraventure 1 (?) before that. At that point there’s no significant wear on the soles, my body just knows it’s time to get on. No other brand lasts beyond 300 miles before I need to ditch them. Finally, they run well on snow and ice with not as much slippage as other brands — that’s the surface for about 4/9ths of my runs.

Nice shoe, poor fit

I really wanted to love these. The overall design is nice. Good looking, great vibram outsole, rock Plate does its job. Could be better colors. However the biggest issue is the fitment. It just doesn’t feel secure on my foot. My normal size didn’t work as my toes slammed into the end however it wasn’t a length issue, my foot for whatever reason just slides forward in these read more shoes. So I ended up a half size bigger to avoid that. Now my toes don’t hit but they feel kinda sloppy. Fit is a pretty personal issue so I don’t think everyone will have this issue however I have read other reviews stating the same problem. Hopefully they can make the 3rd version of the shoe more secure because otherwise it’s a pretty good shoe with nice features. Update: I have logged a bit more miles since my original review. They broke in nicely and got more comfortable. My feet still slide forward a bit but I’ve found lacing techniques to help. Other than that I just wish they had a little wider toe area. The shoe is definitely showing wear after 2-3 seasons of weekly use. Some of the glue is coming apart and holes are forming around the ball of the foot on the insides, both sides. But overall I like the shoe. Looking forward to the Terraventure 3 but probably going to grab the Runventure 3 in the meantime as I’m told they have a wider toe box.

Dig it!

Where to start.... These are great trail shoes! They have nice deep tread which makes them particularly nice for those wet spring and falls days when the trails get a little muddy. They're very breathable, and have awesome traction. I really can't emphasize enough how impressed I am with the traction. I've ran one of my local mountains recently which had me go through mud, read more snow and scrambling with a little bit of technical stuff near the top.. They handled great! I wasn't sure if they were up for the challenge but once I hit the trail the further I went the further my confidence in them became.

Not impressed with sole

Initial review after a handful of trail runs on varied terrain. Love the fit, comfortable, feels really stable on my feet, and I really enjoy the feeling wearing them going up trails with lots of vert. Unfortunately, any sign of wetness on rocks will cause these shoes to slip easily and lose their grip. Even just step on a damp rock and these feel really slippery. I tried these read more shoes based on hearing great things about their durability, but for me they will probably last a long time just because I they are not usable on the majority of my regular runs - any creek crossing, trails with lots of rocks, or scrambling has caused me to slip easily and lose confidence that the shoe will hold. I usually wear Altras, which I have never had any gripping issues on these same trails. Bummer because the rest of the shoe is bomber.

My go to shoes

I’ve run everything from 5miles to 20miles in these, muddy trails, dry trails, mixed terrain even on gravel or rocky down hills they are a pretty smooth ride. I also purchased the ultra venture, but the lack of a rockplate has me preferring these.

A More Substantial Running Shoe

Feels substantial, firm, super breathable (maybe too much) I was skeptical of the traction but I ended up feeling like Spider-Man with how well I was gripping some steeper/rougher trails. I had awfully good traction on slush and mud, just had to deal with the water in my shoes because there's no waterproofing :/ Also, if anyone else was wondering like me, you don't need to compensate read more in sizing for the "roomy toe box" they talk about. I'm typically a 9 and an 8.5 was sliiiightly too small for me. I recommend your usual size! Didn't notice the antimicrobial footbed that's supposed to reduce smell or the forefoot rockbed protection in the description. These are also gaiter compatible which I haven't' tried. Topo makes a "stretch nylon gaiter" sold separately of course so I can't speak to it.
