Timbuk2 Classic 9 - 28L Messenger Bag reviews and deals for sale

The Timbuk2 Classic Messenger Bag is the culmination of 25 years of cycling expertise, design innovation, and customer feedback. Slightly revamped, the Classic Messenger Bag now features Cordura nylon instead of ballistic nylon. Cordura nylon is lighter, stronger, and more water-resistant than the ballistic nylon previously used. In addition, this messenger bag features a waterproof TPU liner to protect the bag's valuables from soaking rain and splashes.

This messenger bag features an exterior front and Napoleon pocket for quick-access to your keys, wallet, phone, and other small accessories. The large interior compartment features dual stretch pockets for holding water bottles or laptop chargers. A back slash pocket sits inside of the main compartment, giving you a place to secure a laptop, tablet, notebook, or loose papers. Holding small accessories, an interior organizer features small pockets and a larger zippered area for compartmentalizing your stuff.

Fully adjustable, the shoulder strap easily conforms to your upper body, and it features an improved airmesh design to enhance air flow and comfort. Compression straps (S,M,L only) prevent the bag's contents from jostling around, also working to cinch a jacket or sweater for added versatility.

Nice bag, bad strap adjustment

My first messenger bag, size M. I like it. However the adjustment system is impossible to operate one handed with ~10lbs or so of weight in it. Also, I thought it had a shoulder pad but it didn't come with one.

Great bag for a bike commute

I have the XS size and am petite. The bag is perfect for my bike commute to work and fits well. My single qualm is that the adjustable shoulder pad (for a small person) only fits on my left shoulder when I have the strap adjusted to fit my body, so I have to wear it backward if I want to use the shoulder pad and wear the bag on my right shoulder. Otherwise, it is great! Waterproof read more through a thunderstorm, fits a waterbottle, change of clothes, and lunch. Exactly what I wanted!

Solid bag

I use this as my work bag/weekend satchel. Had it for one month of near every day use. Good organization, great compact size (I have the small) yet you can load it up till bulging. Most I've fit is my laptop w/accessories, 2x sandwich containers, small water bottle, notebook, and a puffy jacket. Could have fit a bit more with some force :P. For laptop users: the small fits a 15" read more macbook pro just fine or a bit tight on a Dell XPS 15 even though it says only 13".

Lots of pockets!

I bought this for my girlfriend for an upcoming vacation. So far she loves it. She uses it everyday and loves all of the pockets. Perfect for everyday use. It is big enough to fit all of the necessities along with a water bottle and a light jacket.

Great replacement

I picked up this bag to replace the North Face Base Camp Messenger that is no longer in production. Although it does not offer the water resistance that the Base camp does, it seems more durable and won't delaminate the way the fabric will on North Face. The internal pockets are great for organization and it fits my IPAD perfectly. Overall it's a great piece of gear that read more I would highly recommend .

Excellent!

I bought this for my husband and he absolutely loves it. I purchased the medium and its perfect for his laptop, a few books, and other office supplies and still have room without being too bulky. The strap is made to withstand the test of time. Great product!

Great Messenger

I've been a messenger bag kind of guy since my teens. This is not my first Timbuk2 and I doubt it will be my last. Construction is dependable and their bags are comfy and reasonably roomy. You also can't beat the range of sizes and colors available for getting that personal touch you want. My only hesitation is the laptop portion of the bag. It does accommodate the 15-inch Macbook read more Pro that is the defacto standard in my industry. The laptop area is not well protected though. I've added a padded sleeve to beef it up a little and I feel better about rolling around with the computer now. The rest of the storage is easy to use and provides plenty of space for your daily carries - whatever they are. The straps are simple, but seems very durable and easy to use. I have yet to fly with the bag, but I suspect it will be easy to carry on and comfortable for treks through the terminal.

Incomplete and flimsy laptop padding

I had another Timbuk2 bag which has lasted for 10 years. I was looking to replace it with something similar that I could use to carry my laptop while I biked to work. I researched this bag and it seemed like the natural replacement. The version that was shipped to me did not come with a cross strap to use for cycling. More fundamentally the internal laptop sleeve didn't offer any read more padding. It is simply a cloth pocket without any padding at all on four sides and a very thin piece of padding on the front. This is problematic because there is nothing whatsoever to soften the impact of your laptop when it makes contact with hard surfaces at all. It seems like Timbuk2 sells a lot of bags now, so maybe their others would have better laptop padding, just don't expect it from this one.

Fits a 15" macbook pro

The size small DOES fit the new 15" macbook pro if anyone is wondering. I hated how big the medium bag was when I got it, so I ordered a small as well to try to see if it would fit my macbook (even though timbuk2's website said it wouldn't). It definitely does. Its snug, but my macbook has a protective case on it, and it still fits in the laptop sleeve. FYI the difference between read more the small and the medium sizes were a pretty large leap. I like the small because I'm just more of a minimalist. I'd prefer a small bag and being minimal than too big of a bag with extra space. The medium looked like I was carrying a suitcase on my shoulder. I plan to put a protective camera pod in this along with my laptop to use as a incognito gear bag while traveling and it looks like the small bag is going to fit my macbook pro along with the pod that will be carrying two large lenses, one DSLR full frame body, and a flash. Also as a sidenote, the vintage metal color does have a slight purple tone to it. Its pretty, but not something I really noticed at first in the online pics. Haven't actually taken it anywhere yet but I'll come back to update if I find any faults!

classic for a reason

In college I used the XL messenger bag. It stored my 17" laptop and books with plenty of space for jackets, water bottles, etc.. everything for 12 hours of commuting and schooling. Now that I'm not biking around with quite as much stuff I wanted the same bag but in a smaller version. Sized down to a medium and I still have plenty of space for all my work and personal stuff. read more

Great Bag!!!

I have used my original Timbuk2 messenger bag for over 3 years, every day for school and work. When it came time to purchase a new one, I figured why not stick with something I'm used to? I opted for this new classic messenger bag. I am very glad I did. The material is just as strong, durable, and light as the original. It comes with an updated design and some new features. I really read more like the one handed strap lock. It is very easy to operate(make shorter when riding or longer when walking). The only con I can think of is that the sizing is a little different from the original model of the bag. I purchased a medium since my other bag was a medium and it was somewhat larger than the original model. I guess I can't complain about the added storage space but it does make it a little bulkier while commuting on my bicycle or motorcycle. It also causes the stuff inside (laptop, books, etc) to shift. The bag does however have compression straps on the bottom to tighten down when you don't have enough stuff to fill it up. It is a hassle to always have to tighten it and loosen it depending on the amount you're carrying especially when you're in a hurry. Overall a great messenger bag that I would buy again! 4/5 stars due to the sizing difference. I'd also like to note that I purchased this bag since I wanted a new one and NOT because my old one was no longer functional. In fact my old one is still in great condition! This goes to show the durability of Timbuk2 products!

Does it come with a hip strap? I'm thinking about using it for commutes on my motorcycle and want to ensure it can be secured around the waist.

Pictures and video show the bag worn over the shoulder and tight to the individuals back (looking like a true messenger bag). Based on the strap setup can you also wear the bag over the shoulder and have it ride more on the hip (more like a briefcase)? I do not bike to work and want a replacement bag for my current leather bag. Thanks!
