Suunto Suunto 9 Watch reviews and deals for sale

For dedicated athletes who find that their adventures take them far away from anything resembling a charger there's the Suunto 9 Watch. Perfect for ultra-runners, cyclists, and backpackers, this long-lasting GPS watch was designed to maximize battery life without sacrificing performance, giving you highly accurate readings and a battery that won't quit. To hold your charge all through your next adventure, you've got three distinct training modes that let your watch determine how much juice it needs to burn based on activity level. With Performance mode you've got 25 hours of battery life, 40 with Endurance, and a whopping 120 hours with Ultra mode, ensuring that this watch will hang in there as long as you do.

The problem with a lot of GPS watches is that the GPS tracking is such a drain on the battery that the watch can't always hang through your huge 20 mile days, and if it does make it through, the GPS signal has often been reduce to save battery, leaving you with a less accurate reading. The Suunto 9 works around this problem by combining GPS and motion sensor data for dependable distance tracking that won't rely entirely on the GPS. This essentially allows the GPS to reduce its impact on the battery and lets the movement data fills in the gaps left behind, letting your watch stay charged during your whole run and letting you log your workout accurately.

Not only will you have a long-lasting charge with this watch, but you'll have smart reminders to help you stay charged more often. Based on your activity history, these smart reminders will recognize when you usually hit the road or trail and send you a reminder to have your watch charged at that time. And if you forget, or if you end up running longer than you expected, the watch will recognize when it's running low and automatically suggest changing your training mode to preserve battery life. On cross-training days this watch has 80 different sport modes for custom tracking of your various workouts, as well as 100m water-resistance so you can stretch your muscles in the pool without having to leave your watch behind. A heart-rate monitor in the wrist rounds out the features, and its durable construction ensures that it's ready for all of the rugged terrain that you are.

Room for improvement

This watch has a great aesthetic and fits less bulky than other smart watches. However, I've encountered a couple of flaws I haven't been able to tackle with Suunto customer service. Unfortunately, I found this all out after the watch had already seen some wear and tear and is outside of its return period. -Battery: Suunto and reviewers say that this has excellent battery life. read more I've found that around a week without even running is about all the battery lasts. This is worse than my Garmin Fenix 2 which was an older but more reliable watch. -Tracking: My runs have been off by about 1/4 mile per run so my pacing has been inaccurate. This feels like it defeats the purpose of this type of watch :( -HR monitor. This watch says my heart rate gets up to 200 bpm on jogs. Not true. Also RHR is 70-80 bpm. Also not true. For a watch marketed as the top of the top, I'm a little disappointed, especially now that I can't return/have to sell it but am not confident in the product. Check out the Garmin Fenix 5.

Longest battery life

I bought this watch to train more effectively for ultra distance races. Skeptical about the battery at first, Suunto sure outdid themselves. I rarely ever have to charge it and when I do- the watch reminds me! I was able to wear it during my race 25 hours and accurate! I’ve used it also for cross training; cycling and hot yoga and it’s awesome- I have the worst tan line from read more never taking it off ;) I received this watch free for being an ambassador- but would have 100% purchased it, worth every penny!
