Awesome Base Layers

I've got a bunch of these and they're great. I'm 5'9 160 and they're a good fit- medium for me. Trim but not at all too tight and super comfy. I wear them skiing, skinning, hiking, and running and I usually wear them more than once before washing because it takes a lot for them to stink.

Great when on sale!

Well, I have a good dozen of the L/S 150s, in various iterations, they're all very comfortable, durable, if you treat them right and look great! I would buy another one for my son but it's at full MSRP right now everywhere so I wait for a more reasonable price. I use one every day under a L/S casual shirt in the summer and use the Sport 1/4 zip for an hour basketball workout which read more leaves it soaked in sweat but is still comfortable and dries quickly. Well made, and feels really good when I take off the aforementioned, sweaty 1/4 zip and put on a dry crew one, pictured here. Except at full price, I highly recommend!

Fav hiking shirt,terrible durability

These shirts are great for base layer use year round, and make absolutely spectacular hiking shirts. They don't smell even after many days backpacking, thanks to the natural antimicrobial properties of the wool, they're breathable on hot, dry desert treks or summer hikes, but retain heat beautifully in the wintertime. They fit nicely, and while they definitely look technical, they're read more not embarrassing to wear on the town in a pinch. Where do they fall short? The durability is absolutely abysmal. Any rub point will quickly deteriorate in a patchwork of holes, initially small, then ever widening. Where the shoulder and hip straps of a pack go will immediately show wear, even after 2-3 hikes. After a year of hikes, the shoulders on my shirt were shredded, as seen in the picture. That said, I kept wearing it, and bought more of the same shirt when it's on sale, just because I like the other qualities so much. Just don't pay full price and don't expect high durability. I think it's an inherent limitation of wool when woven this thin.

Quality, but not slim for a base layer

It's a great quality shirt, but if you are slim it's not going to be 'next to skin' like you would probably want for a base layer. I'm slim with an athletic build and the medium is baggy on me. Like other Smartwool shirts, the length is generous (just keep it out of the dryer)

Just the right weight

Perfect for slumming around town or going on a run. Has a nice thin feel that works as a layer or by itself without looking too technical. Doesn’t feel like wool as a 250 weight does, more like a T-shirt. Leaves odor behind so you can wear repeatedly without washing even after sweating (not kidding, my wife does not tolerate smells).

Great

Fits a bit loose for a base layer but once I wash I'm expecting a touch of shrinkage. Warm, looks nice, and comfy

All around best base layer

This layer is wonderful for all kinds of weather. I have worn it on technical climbs in Alaska and the tetons, as well as backpacking in the summer heat to hide from the sun. It literally works everywhere as a strong versatile base. Super comfortable and fits really well. wicks all moisture and keeps you dry and stink free for days.
