Shimano Ultegra CS-R8000 Cassette reviews and deals for sale
Shimano's Ultegra group is one of the most popular out there with good reason: it's the perennial favorite when you factor the performance-to-dollars equation. With different demands for drivetrain ranges required for road, gravel, and CX riding, Shimano has created cassette ranges designed to allow the R8000 drivetrain to easily satisfy the needs for a variety of riders. The Ultegra CS-R8000 Cassette ranges as high as 32t, so you can set up the new Ultegra (or Dura-Ace R9100) with the range you need for gravel epics, 4 corner crits, hill climbs, junior nationals, and everything in-between.
Shimano's experience in forging, machining, and engineering allows for an enormous amount of technology that goes into tooth design, shaping, and shifting ramps. The cogs themselves are constructed from a nickel-plated steel that prevents corrosion and is slow to wear. Ultimately, this leads to cassettes that shift smoother and more precisely—and last longer—at a price that's friendly to the self-sponsored racer.
The top five cogs are grouped as three and two, respectively, and are riveted to anodized aluminum spiders that add stiffness to improve shifting. The remaining six cogs are individual with spacers between, and an anodized aluminum lockring screws into the freehub to hold the entire assembly together. One spline of the cassette is wider than the others and corresponds with the splines on the freehub, so the cassette cogs can only be installed with the right clocking of the shifting ramps, timing them for perfect chain pick-up and release. This innovation is true to Shimano's Japanese culture, which uses the term "poka-yoke" to refer to features—like these guiding splines—that serve as built-in wards against user error.

December 9, 2020better than good enough
The ultegra cassette is the sweet spot in the price/weight/durability spectrum of shimano (and other brands) cassettes. My go-to for training and racing. I ride about 8k miles/year

October 26, 2020Still the best
High quality, light, easy to install, good price, smooth shifting and comes in a wide range of tooth options. I use the integra cassettes on both my ultegra and 105 rigged bikes; bought this one for a gravel rig I am building. No complaints ever.

October 2, 2020The right part shipped fast.
All cassettes wear out, and Ultegra cogs are a great replacement for the high priced Dura Ace OE gear at a slight weight penalty. Big thing is Competitive Cyclist shipped the right part very fast... Smooth running for this weekends rides!

August 17, 2020Great Addition For Utah Canyons
My whole drivetrain is Ultegra. This cassette went on easily and it's great having a larger gear for climbing Utah's canyons. I ratios are still great for downhill and flats. Get one

July 12, 2020It's Ultegra. Do it.
Ultegra is long wearing and use it with an Ultegra chain. Runs smoothly. I've never had one break on me. If anything, they wear out over time as any metal parts wear out.

December 2, 2019Can't go wrong with this
I use these cassettes on both my Ultegra and Dura Ace equipped bikes. Yes, the Dura Ace cassette is lighter but after breaking two DA cassettes I've decided that there is nothing fast about "broken". I'm not a huge power rider either, I just think the DA cassettes are under-built to achieve their lightness. Sure pros use them but they are getting new cassettes put on constantly.… read more So, save yourself some money and get this Ultegra-level cassette which will shift great and not leave you stranded.

August 28, 2019Great Value for Ultegra 11-32T
Half the price offered by my LBS. Hopefully lasts longer than first. So hope to see same value when in need of new change in 5-6 months.

August 26, 2019This is the official OLD MAN cassette
The basics: the cassette shifts nicely, like I expect from Shimano. The obvious trade-off from a 27 or 28 is the spread between various gears. The huge upside for my old arse is the lower end, climbing a 10% or whatever grade. Going from a 28 will likely only require adjusting the derailleur stop screw.

July 7, 2019As Advertised
I love how Competitive Cyclist always has quality components and clothing at competitive prices. Though I should have pulled the trigger a week prior because it was even less, I still felt that I received the best deal at the time from all of their competitors. This cassette will be a match for my new Enve 3.4 disc wheels, to match my current stock wheel/cassette combo.

June 12, 2019Works great, training & racing (11-25)
Bought two, to have one on the indoor trainer rear wheel and, one for road rides rear wheel setup. Hard to beat for the price and the mid level weight, compared to dura-ace or Sram XD at three times the cost for only 50-70 grams less, save those for race day! Can usually get 2-3 chains worth of life out of one rear cassette and set of front chain rings, then again, I clean my drive… read more line after every ride and lube it, makes a huge difference in life of chain, gears, and how bike shifts.

I have these combined with Shimano Ultegra SM-RT800 Disc Rotor on my Reynolds 58/62 Carbon Disc Wheelset and appreciate the performance when all combined.

November 2, 2018Ultegra never disappoints
Smooth cassette at a nice weight. It's nice it comes in a 11-30. Nice bang for the buck too!

October 28, 2018smooth as butter
Smooth precise shifting. Purchased 11-25 to replace 11-21 for middle-gear range benefits. Ultegra - highest quality cassette with probably a little more durability than Dura Ace. (Obviously, a little heavier)

August 20, 2018Shimano cassette
This cassette is very light and works great with my r8000 derailleur. I'm running a 11-28 cassette with a 50/34 crank.

April 25, 2018Light, Durable and Quiet
Perfect cassette for the money. Running 11-28 with SRAM Etap and DuraAce Chain. Crisp, precise shifting and seems to run a tad quieter than its 6800 counterpart.

March 17, 2018Weight Savings!
I upgraded my 105 5800 to the new Ultegra R8000, and purchased the 11-28 cassette to match my new short cage derailleur. Coming from an 11-32 105 cassette, this upgrade to Ultegra earned me a 60 gram savings! Ultegra 11-28 cassette weighed 246 grams on my PT scale.

September 9, 2017Finally... a 32!
I gave this cassette as a gift to a family member who was really looking for a little bit more to help climb the canyons around us. Installing is the same as all Shimano cassettes, and the shifting is smooth and crisp! She is extremely happy knowing that she can run the R8000 cassette with her existing 6800, and is now able to go climb the roads just in time for fall. If you have… read more any questions on the new R8000 gear, please reach out to me.
