Shimano SH-RC9 S-PHYRE Wide Cycling Shoe - Men's reviews and deals for sale
Those who have owned Shimano cycling shoes in the past are quite familiar with the quality and performance the firm puts into its kicks that are similar to what we're used to seeing in its much-lauded components. If you haven't experienced its shoes yet, set aside your component brand loyalties for a moment and try some on. Built for a higher volume foot, Shimano's SH-RC9 S-PHYRE Cycling Shoe - Wide is ideal for those with big boats that don't necessarily want to go custom. Footwear makes up one of three points of contact with your bicycle and if you hope to achieve a comfortable ride, a dialed fit, and top performance, nice shoes like the SH-RC9 is mandatory. Countless pros trust the RC9 S-Phyre in training and racing, and for good reason, they refuse to sacrifice comfort or efficiency loss to substandard shoes.
Shimano constructs the single piece upper for Teijin microfiber synthetic leather, now with more perforations, offering suppleness, breathability, and a precise fit. New, built-in drainage holes allow rain to exit the shoe when out on your own spring classics and the quick dry 3D mesh keeps feet feeling fresh even on the hottest days. The micro-adjustable and independent dual Boa IP1 dial closures provide such an incredible fit, Shimano actually skipped the Custom Fit heat and vacuum system we are used to seeing on its high-end shoes over the past decade. The strategically placed BOAs and upper contour to feet so well, it simply doesn't need it.
A rounded one-piece molded heel cup starts at the carbon sole and continues up the back of the shoe. It's designed to stabilize the back of the heel, gently holding it in place, eliminating the possibility of twisting and rolling to improve comfort and efficiency. The lining of the heel features a cat tongue like gripping material that prevents heel lift so you can pedal perfect circles while your foot is held in total comfort without excessive tension on the shoe. Surrounding the cleat mounting and toe area of the sole, a bonded overlay protects the sole and makes the walk up to the counter at the coffee shop a little safer.
If you're a weight-weenie, Shimano shoes might not impress on paper. The firm refuses to skimp on performance bolstering features in the quest to shed a few grams. But, just like a frameset or wheelset, weight is just but one part of the equation that adds up to a great ride and Shimano regards fit, comfort, and power transfer, in addition to weight, when it comes to designing, developing, and constructing shoes.
It's a shame that you never really get to see the shoe's sole on the ride because that's where the shoe starts to earn its paycheck. Its pool table stiff Dynalast carbon fiber sole is designed for improved foot support and comfort that channels every watt dished out into the pedals. The seamless mid-sole construction process eliminates the board last, which reduces weight and lowers the overall stack height of the sole for maximum efficiency. The sole's stiffness measurement comes in at an impressive 12 out of 12, the stiffest from the brand, and provides 11mm more fore-aft of the cleat adjustment over its previous road shoes.
A single size 42 shoe comes in at 243g so it's actually quite at home chasing KOMs at the Grand Tours while durable enough for the muddy cobbled classics. If you have wide feet, you're doing yourself a great disservice if you don't check out this higher volume RC9. The fit, performance, and durability is everything we have come to expect from a Shimano shoe and if you've used them in the past, you know what we are talking about and welcome home. If you haven't, take the plunge, you won't be disappointed.

May 22, 2020A wide bicycling shoe that is truly wide
As one ages, one's feet flatten out, thanks to gravity, and in effect, widening the foot. These shoes offer a wide toe box that is much wider than any other bicycling shoes that I have owned. Very comfortable and professionally engineered. These are the shoes that I was looking for!

May 19, 2020Amazing... Just pay attention to sizing
If you are used to shimano road shoes, sizing is close to older versions, but doesn’t match with their US size chart. Example: I wear size 12 dress shoes. I wear size 12.5 trainers and running shoes Shimano size chart thus says I’m a 47, or 12 per sizing chart... Bought those, too big. They don’t make the wides in a 46.5, as my last shimanos were, which would have been… read more perfect, though shimano says they’re equivalent to 11.5... maybe... So I got 46s... which fit like a glove with thin socks... couldn’t wear any Thing Thick. Shimano says these are size 11... I haven’t worn anything 11ish since high school. I know and believe cycling shoes should be snug, but these seem like they run a little big. Also know the wides are just extra volume, soles are the same. Works for me but not a true wide width. But, if you can find a size that fits, these are amazing and worth every penny. Uber stiff. Seamless upper is amazing. If you get the size right the heel really grips. Shockingly breathable for perforated synthetic. And the construction and finish are top notch.

September 22, 2019Great shoe
Very high quality shoe just not that wide really. Maybe they have a little bit more volume but sole isn't any wider than my regular width Torch 3.0. If you have a little wider feet they might work, if you have truly wide feet look elsewhere-Lake.

July 20, 2019Just the shoe that I wanted
This is my second pair of Shimano road shoes with a Wide size. I hated to dump the old ones, but they were showing their age. That shoe replaced by the Sphere and I was concerned it might not have the comfort I depended on. But happiness reins! They fit just as well and are just as comfortable. I am very pleased.

January 5, 2019Game changer
I jumped from a pair of entry level giros to these bas boys and is a whole new level, in terms of comfort these shoes are really good, im still getting used to the carbon sole and the stiffness, but as shimano puts it out, these shoes have their max level of stiffness and you totally feel it. Materials are really good the leather feels very nice and the boa system is amazing, in… read more terms of ventilation i dont have any complaint, ive been cycling in pretty hot conditions and i have not feel a thing. In terms of sizing i really recommend you to try these first and went blind with the wide version and im really glad i did, i tried the normal version on a size bigger than the ones i bought and i couldnt move my fingers at all, with this wider version my toes are thanking me a lot. In terms of sizing is very difficult to follow your normal shoes, i wear 9 all the time (nike, saucony, salomon, asics ...) i went with 41 wide which is approximately 7.6 US size according to the shoe, so definitely you ned to try these first. I can see the improvements shimano did on this update and they nailed it, i really like these shoes
