SealLine Bulkhead View Dry Bag Reviews
Pat Guinn
June 28, 2017Great lightweight, yet durable dry bag.
I bought the SealLine Bulkhead View Dry Bag before a five day rafting trip down Desolation Canyon and I am very pleased with it. I previously had the Sea To Summit Ultra-Sil View Dry Sack and I really liked how ridiculously lightweight it was and how it had the clear window so that I could see what was in the bag and not have to dig around blindly for what I was looking for. The… read more problem that I ran into withe the Ultra-Sil material is that it is not as abrasion resistant as I would have liked and on my previous trip down the Gates of Lodore on the Green River a small hole got torn in the fabric, rendering my dry bag useless. Ultra-Sil is great if the dry bag isn't seeing any kind of abrasion (for use to keep things dry inside a backpack for example), but I like the 70/140 D Nylon material of this SealLine Bulkhead View Dry Bag much better for use as a stand-alone dry bag for whitewater trips where rocks are lurking and rafts can flip. Although it didn't encounter any abrasion this time around, I have no doubt it would have withstood it easily. It is much burlier than the Ultra-Sil material, while still being relatively light weight with minimal bulk. It also has a polyurethane window which is a great feature. It's a bit cloudier than the totally transparent window on the Sea To Summit Ultra-Sil View Dry Sack, but it still gives you enough of an idea of where things are in the bag to locate them with ease. The burlier material is a welcome upgrade and gives much greater peace of mind. This bag also has the Purge Air valve that will allow you to expel extra air from the bag after the top has already been rolled. This is a cool feature, but isn't entirely necessary if you properly burp the majority of the extra air out of the bag before rolling the top down. I only used the Purge Air valve a couple of times, but it seemed to work just fine. I got the 10 liter size which was perfect for a day bag on the raft. I was able to comfortably fit a lightweight rain jacket, a average sized bottle of sunscreen, bug repellant, two headlamps (probably not necessary), cases for both my sunglasses and my prescription glasses, my phone, Goal Zero Flip 20 battery pack, and quite a few other odds and ends with space to spare. 10/10 would buy again.
