Salomon Speedcross 5 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's reviews and deals for sale
Runners who are out on the trail rain or shine will rejoice in the new Salomon Speedcross 5 GTX Trail Running Shoe. Back in its fifth iteration, the Speedcross is now more equipped than ever for sloppy trail conditions, and with this special waterproof version of the shoe you'll have absolutely no fear charging through muddy puddles and snowy trails. Already a favorite for year-round trail runners, the addition of a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane to the Speedcross makes it even more equipped for winter runs and mud-season romps. Your feet will stay dry as you pound through puddles and snowfields, while your foot's heat is allowed to escape thanks to the highly breathable construction.
Staying dry is a fantastic addition to any trail run, but to a group as comfortable with discomfort as trail runners the focus is definitely on trail-ready performance, which the Speedcross 5 has plenty of. Most of the shoe's updates focus around its performance in sloppy conditions, starting with the outsole. Updated lugs are deeper and more widely spaced than before, giving you reliable traction in mud, snow, and other softer trail conditions. The rubber itself is even better equipped for soft conditions, helping you step with confidence even on the wettest trail days. A unique heel-unit design offers better stability during descents in soft conditions, so you can worry less about slipping out on wet and muddy trails. The Sensifit upper creates a snug and supportive fit on challenging terrain, and the Quicklace adjustment system is easy to use and won't slip or slide when wet like laces might.

December 8, 2020Very narrow at the arch
True to size length wise, but very narrow at the arch section of the shoe. Placed a return and received a prompt refund.

August 12, 2020Nice shoes but uncomfortably narrow
I trail run quite a bit and enjoy doing hill sprints along the trails. The shoes are nice and the tread very effective in loose forest coverings with roots and rocks. I wear an 8.5-9, depending on the brand and went with 8.5 which seemed true to size length wise, but i would normally take a wide if available too. I read that the new Speedcross had a larger toebox, but maybe that… read more doesn't apply to the GTX version? Anyway, very painful across the widest part of my foot when running. I wanted to like them, but the pain just increased as I used them and made running more an effort of trying to manage my footfall to mitigate the pain rather than focusing on where or how well I was running. I've been wearing 0 drop shoes for years and tried these after my NB Minimus model was discontinued and thought some rugged and waterproof trail shoes would be a nice change for rocky terrain. After only 2 short runs (like .5 mile), I ended up with extreme knee pain, but that may just be attributed to personal body mechanics. Anyway, unfortunately returned.

May 28, 2020Great shoes, volume increased
Bought these because I had a pair of the Speedcross 4's that fit great and served me quite well but got tattered, as trail running shoes will. I wrongly assumed the 5's would fit the same as the 4's (they sure looked the same in the pictures!), however, the 5's are bigger than the 4's. The volume has increased. I have difficulty finding lower volume shoes with the length I need… read more and the 4's in a 10 1/2 were perfect. Sorry that Salomon had to make a change, I thought I had found a go-to style. Otherwise these shoes are great, real comfortable trail grippers.

May 19, 2020nice and dry
I like trail running shoes that can keep my feet dry. After a nightmare of a time on the Colorado trail last year, I knew I needed better water proofing on my feet for snowy post hoping this year. I have tested these out on some springtime mud to snowboarding excursions, and they keep my feet pretty dry on the afternoon slush slog downhill after the rideable snow runs out!

December 6, 2019Would definitely recommend.
These are even more comfortable. They fit perfect. Seems like they have improved the cord lock and cushion on the tongue. Stylish enough to wear out and about as a casual shoes as well. Pleased with the fast delivery.

November 30, 2019Great right out of the box!
I took the Speedcross 5 GTX out for a quick 3 mile run as soon as I got them out of the box in just about everything we have in our backyard except for snow...thatâs soon to follow. The shoes performed well through the muddy trail and the waterproofing is awesome! Although the shoes do run big. My previous Salomons (X Ultra Prime CS) were size 9. I ordered the same size in… read more the Speedcross 5 GTX (regular width) and theyâre a bit too roomy. I really have to pull the laces tight to keep them from shifting under my feet...but therein lies the other issue; thereâs about a half inch space between my toes and the front of the shoes.
