Awesome boot!

I have 3 pairs of Salomon's but had problems with the sizing with this pair. With the help of customer service rep, Rebecca, I was able to return the shoes that didn't fit and finally get the proper fit. I like the policy of free return shipping with the reorder.

Top Shelf...

This year we have decided to go to Colorado and hike. I started looking for a quality boot that would last beyond one trip and that would be comfortable, Durable and supportive. While in my search most online reviews said Solomon was a top contender. I now understand why. Not only are the very high quality but they feel amazing on my feet. Daily I wear Allen Edmond oxfords so read more I wanted a quality shoe yet comfortable since when I am off from work life, comfort is my number one. This was a good buy for me and I appreciate backcountry for the rapid shipping and best pricing.

comfortable w/proof hiking/backpacking

I have gone through many boots, some wear out fast, some loose their waterproofing, some loose their stiffness and support, BUT this boot has outlasted every other boot and retained all of the features above as they did the day o bought them. They are now 2 years old and still going strong! I highly recommend them, they are definitely worth the price.

Great boots!

Just got these and have about 30 miles on them hiking in the woods and varied terrain. I really like them. I'd been having trouble with my feet and these fit and feel great! I also like the terrific ankle support, stiff sole and great traction!

Disappointing boot and customer service

I wore this boot 3 times for around 10-15 total miles before waterproofing failure. The first two wears were light day hikes in dry conditions. The third wear, the boots were bone dry when I went to sleep, and it rained heavily overnight. They were still dry in the vestibule when I put them on in the morning, and the rain had stopped, but the very dense underbrush was wet. It only read more took a half hour of hiking in wet grass for the left boot to completely saturate inside with water like a sponge. I could hear and feel it sloshing around, despite never being submerged. It was tied snugly and the right boot did not experience the same. I contacted backcountry, who passed me off to Salomon. It turns out this boot has many issues of this reported. It could be a specific manufacturing batch, or it could be the design. But they immediately approved my warranty claim. BUT, that only gives you a "coupon code" to use on Salomon's website! They will not help facilitate ordering a replacement. Problem is, the boot is sold out on their site, seemingly forever, despite other vendors including backcountry having plenty in stock! I have signed up for notification emails for my size, and it occasionally pops up with a single one in stock, but even clicking within a half hour of receiving the email, it is already sold out again. This has happened 6 times, over a month since my warranty was approved. You basically have to win the lottery and compete with any new purchasers to get one. Salomon will not help facilitate expediting a warranty replacement order, and even sites like backcountry, where I purchased them originally and who have plenty in stock, will not take Salomon's warranty coupon code nor help facilitate with Salomon. Salomon also won't refund the price difference to purchase a better reviewed and in stock but cheaper boot. So I'm stuck with with failed boots on first wet wear, a useless coupon code for a perpetually out of stock bad design, no help from Backcountry or Salomon, and I'm out $230. I won't buy footwear from backcountry or salomon again. There is another outdoor store with three letters that doesn't make it impossible to get a replacement product for something that failed so spectacularly so immediately. A goretex boot should not completely fail within the first 10 miles with no direct rainfall or submersion, just wet grass, and it shouldn't take months of fighting to click an in stock notification within a millisecond of receipt to get a replacement. Very bad service

Runs insanely large

Bought a size 13 which is the size I buy for all my hiking boots, sneakers, and dress shoes. These have about an inch of extra room. Not sure what the deal is but these are hilariously too big.

Wet feet

These were recommended to me by a game warden friend of mine. I can't say they lived up to the Salomon name. Just got back from a 3 day elk hunt. The weather wasn't terrible but it did spit rain the 1st day which got the foliage soaking and my boots wet. My left boot started leaking about 8 miles in to a 13 mile 1st day. this made for a long weekend of wearing breadbags in my boots. read more I bought these in January 2020 and this is the 1st hunt I've taken them on. The rubber toe is already starting to peel and I have less than 100 miles on these boots. I'll be saving my money for a few more months and buying a pair of Schnees or Kenetrek. Salomon has failed me in the boot department.

Have had Salomons for five years now and wore my old pair out. Ordered and received new pair in two days. As advertised and pleased.

Another 5 Star Review

These boots look at first glance like classic heavy boots - rigid, durable, but rather unwieldy and hefty. However, even when breaking these boots in it was clear Salomon incorporated the best of a heavy boot and the best of the upgrades in hiking shoe technology of the last few decades. The result is a powerhouse of a boot that is exceptionally comfortable. I wanted to talk in-depth read more about the Goretex aspect of this boot because I feel like there might be some misconceptions. These have a goretex lining, so they will be waterproof. I've taken them through dozens of stream crossings throughout the PNW and through many rainy days with no problem. However, if your feet sweat a lot, or you step in a deep puddle or water somehow splashes into the inside, your feet will get wet. This is true of ANY waterproof boot. What is not true of every waterproof boot is that these breathe better than most other options. Even in the upper 60s my feet didn't feel clammy. Generally, if it's not raining out, you don't need to be wearing goretex. The Quests ventilate very well though - avoiding sweaty, uncomfortable feet when hiking. The nubuck leather and lighter upper make the boot feel just fine when summer hiking though, I just prefer something lighter. Of course, unless I'm carrying a heavy back, if it's summer I'm going to grab something non-waterpoof or a trail shoe if just for the lack of an upper alone. To summarize - great performance in the cold and the wet, okay when it's hot out but not my first choice. I found the sole to be thick enough to keep my feet comfortable and protected, even on jagged rocky approaches. The tread was aggressive enough to handle any trail or approach I threw at them too. I've taken these boots snowshoeing several times this winter with no problems with the waterproofing. They performed excellently with the exception of one full moon trip. it was roughly 0-10 degrees and of course, the boots got quite a bit of snow on them. Within half an hours, and even with thick darn tough hiking socks, my toes felt like they were freezing so we had to head back. In short, quite comfy in 20 degrees and snow or any kind of rain, pretty cold in 0 degrees and the snow. For sizing, I normally wear a 8.5 or 9 in men's causal shoes and find 9 to be perfect for me in these. if you want a super durable boot for some serious hiking and backpacking, look no further.

Been wearing for 24 hours

quality boot, Yes. solid base and material, yes. True to size, yes. Because everyone's feet are different, I wont comment on comfort. The only flaw I have found so far comes with the laces. They are a pseudo-para cord that come untied rather easy. other than that I'm liking them. Made the switch from Vasque after 10years on the same pair of boots, too bad vasque had to discontinue read more that style. I think these will hold up for another 10 years. If I can get 5 years, I'll be happy.

GET THIS BOOT!

First off, right out of the gate, this boot is very comfortable and fits perfectly. I'm very pleased with the material, comfort, and durability as I've taken them on hikes and most places I go. Even though I am picky about how narrow and wide shoes fit, I was happy with the width of this boot. Fits true to size and keeps your feet warm/dry with the Gortex.

Nice but hurt my feet

As with other reviews I think they were simply too narrow. I received them quickly. They look good and feel good except that they are tight and make my feet hurt. They would probably be good for a narrow foot. I was very disappointed that I have to try elsewhere.

I really wanted to keep this boot....

...but as others mentioned, the toe box is slightly narrower than the old version of this boot. I tried both the 10.5 and 11 sizes but no luck. Very sadly returned them - in all other respects a great boot and I am sure they would have been as good on the trail as the old version were.

3rd Pair of Salomons, 1st boot

I have two previous pairs of Salomon trail runners. They are both size 13. My foot is 12 1/2. The trail runners fit too tight for backpacking with cushioned socks. I lost a big toenail on a AT section hike. My Asolo boots are also size 13 and fit well with thicker socks. I had to get these new Salomons in a 14. They seem a little stiff but fit well with "Original" Rohner socks. read more They are also 6 ounces lighter than my Asolos.

Buy these boots!

Don’t let the slight extra weight penalty turn you off from trying these boots, they are extremely comfortable and are a solid build. I have warn through waterproof Keen, Merrill, and North Face and none of them come close to Solomon Quest 4D 3 GTX. Buy these and you will not have to worry about sore feet, wetness, ankle support or traction on your next adventure.

Gortex will fail. Not waterproof

GORTEX liner WILL FAIL. Thought the first pair I used was defective and tried a second pair. As you can see in photos boot condition is fairly new. Within 30 miles of light duty these boots failed miserably in wet weather. Entire footbed was squishing in water by the end of my rainy hike. Outsole has decent grip and lacing system makes for secure ankles but these do NOT stay waterproof, read more GORTEX will inevitably fail within a short period of time. Just trying to warn buyers out there
