August 11, 2019Sweet rod
Took it out a few weeks ago for a test drive along the eastern Sierra. Easy to cast and handled fish up to 18" pretty well. This rod is a keeper!

August 10, 2018Go to rod!
So I'm relatively new to fly fishing meaning I've only picked up 4 rods so far, but I have 3 of the classic trouts in 3,4 and 6wt. I did a fair amount of research on the reddington line and the reviews on the classic trout stood out as the best and I'm glad I did! And with the savings I upgraded to both a mid-level reel and line. If you a looking for a daily driver look no farther!… read more

April 30, 2018Fun!
This rod is a lot of fun to fish. The medium action is a nice change from my faster action rods. Amazing for tossing around dries and still works well for lighter nymph rigs.

May 25, 2017Solid Intro Rod!
This has become one of my favorite rods to fish the past few months! The Classic Trout excels at dry fly presentation with the medium-fast action yet can still handle tossing on some meat with your favorite streamer. Unfortunately I had the "one that got away" hit the streamer on this rod hard yesterday... I'll be back for him though. For the price it's hard to beat the feel… read more and dry fly casting accuracy with this rod. Hell, I might pick up a 4 wt. in this rod to add to the quiver. Hit me up if you have questions on this rod, a good reel to pair it up with or what kind of line would be best to get you into a killer setup that won't break the bank!

An excellent beginner rod with plenty of room to grow into. At the price point, you’re hard pressed to find a better option and may even find yourself considering snagging a few other weight options (Did someone say a truck rod?).

September 28, 2016Nice soft touch
I have a 3 weight and 4 weight classic trout, and they're both great dry fly rods. Very smooth casting and easy to get a soft presentation. As an extra bonus, Redington has a reputation for fantastic customer service should a warranty or repair situation ever come up.

I really love this rod, it is reliable and compatible making it perfect for exploring. I got the 7'6 (3 weight) which is perfect for the high alpine creek fishing that I like to do. The four piece is ideal for packing it in and out of the back country. With the medium action you know you are going to drop that fly in the spot you where wanting. Overall this is a great rod that… read more looks magnificent!!!

November 16, 2015Light Weight Beaut
This rod is pleasantly lightweight and frustratingly unforgiving. It is incredibly sensitive and not the best choice for still water. It captures even the smallest movements. It's a great rod for rivers like the Provo. In fact probably Ideal. I purchased a 4wt Handle A, 8ft rod. The rod has quite a bit of flex; only bring your forearm back as far as your ear when casting. To recap… read more here are some pros and cons: Pros: It’s a beautiful rod Incredibly light weight: Forearms are not even sweating at the end of an 8hr day of fishing. Unforgiving: Forces you to perfect your form Sensitive: allows you to place the fly exactly where you want it once you get the hang of things. Packable and great for backpacking: does not get snagged on trees due to the wonderful case that is included in the purchase. Cons: Unforgiving Sensitive: Game must be on point all day, or you will catch no fish. Case and point, this is an excellent rod; I am just not the best angler.

October 27, 2015Love this Rod...
Not a 5 star because I snapped my first one before even casting... but it was rectified... defective. Took it to the Eastern Sierra to case Rainbows with my daughter this weekend... it worked great and let me reach farther than I thought it would on still water. Sensitive and consistent... great rod for the money.

September 8, 2015Best rod in my quiver
I have built up quite a quiver of rods over the years, the vast majority of them Redington, and this one has become my favorite over the course of the summer. I have this in a 4wt and have been exploring a lot of small spring creeks with it all over Utah and Idaho. I have mine paired up with the RIO Trout LT WF which I feel like were made to go together. This medium-fast action… read more rod is extremely sensitive to strikes to give you a let up on setting the hook. Also great for mending purposes and delicately presenting size 22's and 24's. I would highly recommend the Classic Trout in any light weight rod or a beginner looking for a quality rod that won't break the bank. Matthew Pizza Expert Gearhead mpizza@backcountry.com 801.736.5363

April 27, 2015Great Rod
I am impressed with the feel and response this rod has. I have the 5W and it works great for all of my Utah fishing needs. Aluminum reel attachement is quick and painless, easy to put together and break down and a nice carrying case. Hard to beat for the price.
