Redington Behemoth Series Fly Reel reviews and deals for sale
Hooking into a twenty pound steelhead, a big old bonefish, or a rainbow that just sipped a mouse like it was a green drake has a way of making even the most seasoned angler's heart race. When you hook into fish like these, you want a drag system that will put pressure on the fish and turn that behemoth of a fish into your net; accordingly, Redington designed its Behemoth Series Fly Reel to have the most powerful drag in its class. Made primarily for saltwater fishing, the Behemoth is also available in five- and six-weight options for trout applications, and it will balance well with longer spey rods for salmon and steelhead fishing.
The unique interlocking design of the real is achieved with a die-cast construction, which gives the Behemoth a large arbor, deeply set spool, and a look you won't find on any other reel. The powerful carbon fiber drag system can be cranked up when you need to put some serious pressure on big and stubborn fish, but it maintains a smooth feel so you won't instantly snap your line when your catch decides to make a run at the first sign of your net. Also unique to the Behemoth is the twin-molded soft-touch ergonomic handle, which helps keep your hand comfortable when playing those larger fish who refuse to come in easily. Redington also made sure the Behemoth can be easily flipped between a left- or right-handed retrieve, and included a nylon case to protect the reel when traveling to and from the water.

April 4, 2019Nice reel for a good price
I picked up this reel to throw on my 8wt when I was trying to get into some bonefish. This reel is a good one to start with without breaking the bank. With its large arbor, good drag and it's sleekness I'd highly recommend it to someone looking to save a little money.

March 27, 2019Great Quality / Great Price
Bought this reel to fish the rivers in Wyoming. Great for streamers and large nymphs.

The Behemouth is basically the body builder of the reel world. Although the reel feels beefy, I do not believe any steroids were used in it's creation. The construction feels sturdy, the arbor is huge, and the drag is solid. The best part about this reel: you don't have to spend your entire paycheck for a high quality product. I got the 5/6 for my 6wt streamer rod, and really like… read more the weight it gives to the whole system when chucking big streamers.

June 14, 2018Redington behemoth reel
I bought the behemoth 5wt to be the dedicated reel for my 3wt euro nymph setup. The larger size helps balance out the longer rod and makes it more comfortable to cast. This is my second behemoth and after fishing one for a year already, i think they are great reels for the price point. They have a good drag, feel, and startup inertia and are build solid despite being a die cast… read more construction. I expect this behemoth to be just as good as the one that's been on my trout rod for over a year now. The only downsize is that it is not a sealed drag which means that the drag behaves differently when the reel gets wet.

April 16, 2018Good value, one major flaw
let me start by saying this is a great reel for the money. Good capacity, decent finish, smooth drag. The only problem with this reel is the deep V in the spool. In theory this should promote even winding (?) of your backing, but I have now seen two different setups lose monster fish because of this. The backing winds up all on one side when fighting a fish, this only goes so… read more far until the backing collapses to the other side...good luck trying to untangle that mess while you are fighting a big jack, much less a tarpon. If your target species is going to run you deep into the backing, you might want to consider spending a little more to get a better design.

March 31, 2018Massive capacity, great value
This is wonderful inexpensive reel. This is great option to get into larger gear without breaking the bank, whether you want a freshwater pike or musky reel, or saltwater reel. I have this in 10 and 12 and haven't had any issue yet. Buy a few spools with the money you save.

December 3, 2017Best Value Saltwater Reel
Fished recently with a guide who had a Redington setup for jacks and false albacore. This reel had outstanding smooth startup, great stopping power, and incredible capacity with gel spun backing. I bought one right after fishing the guide's rig I was so impressed. You could buy an Abel or Tibor for literally 6 to 10 times more money but this reel is just as good with great looks… read more as well. The forged body might be subject to some durability issues but for this price, the Redington Behemoth Reel is the best value in salt water reels right now.

August 29, 2017Huge reel
I bought this Real as an up grade for the one that came on my redington path. I got Rio gold 5wt line to put on it. I can't wait to get out and try this new reel. Not sure the fit yet, however it looks great on my rod. I will hopefully be getting out in the next week or so.

January 5, 2017The name says it all this thing is HUUGE
Just picked up this reel, and I must say, it certainly lives up to it's name! Still, i'm pretty sure it's lighter than any of my other reels. Only been able to use it a handful of times, and will update once I get a few more days on it, but so far so good!
