Petzl Glacier Literide reviews and deals for sale

The Glacier Literide from Petzl provides excellent security and holding power in a lightweight, pack-friendly package. Because of its small stature and lightweight aluminum shaft, this axe is ideal for ski- and snowboard-mountaineering, especially given that it can easily be strapped to a pack for the descent. The toothed steel pick and steel adze provide a stable anchor and efficiently cut steps into the snow, respectively. The stainless steel bottom spike plunges easily into even the hardest snow, and the top and bottom both feature carabiner-clip holes for easy anchoring.

decent axe

it's alright for steep snow, but there's much better options out there.

A good tool

I needed a small, light axe to fill a hole in my quiver for skimountaineering. Yet, it needed to be solid enough for traditional alpine work. This axe has fit the bill perfectly. I have only used it on one skimountaineering trip but it performed great. It really shone on the steeper rock and snow pitches. The metal spike and one piece pick/adze combo all had solid traction. If you read more are going to spend most of your time going up or down nearly vertical this is a great choice. For me the selling point is the 50cm length. It is long enough for a boot-axe belay and for decent self-arrest but short enough that it stays tucked below the level of my pack. For skiing this is a huge factor in my decision to buy this axe. I highly recommend it for anyone into skimountaineering.
