PEARL iZUMi PRO Road Cycling Shoe - Men's reviews and deals for sale

Pearl Izumi wasn't messing around when it came back for the fifth-generation of its PRO Road Cycling Shoes. The brand aimed for a clean, minimalist shoe that takes stiffness to the max thanks to its re-engineered sole that took 24-months of fine detail before being released to us. This lands the 5th-gen at 22% lighter than its predecessor, with every ounce of stiffness and support that we found before.

Amazing shoes

After getting my cleat set just right and a short break in; these shoes have got to be the best shoes I've ridden with. Ultra comfortable; really stiff; vents really well; awesome styling. Id recommend sizing down a half to a full size but other than that these shoes are everything youre looking for.

Can't Be Beat

First off, let me just say these shoes are amazing. Starting from the top, the knit upper combined with double boa closure gives you a fit that is more comfortable and secure than anything else I have tried. The two-boa dials make it easy to adjust the fit on the fly if you have a pain point. The shoe can be tricky to get into at first. This is because it has a pad to help your read more heel stay put. That pad does an amazing job, while that knit upper surrounds your foot and keeps it from moving while giving you nice ventilation. The sole is super lightweight carbon which still gives you plenty of stiffness for excellent power transfer. I normally size up a full size from my street shoes (size 11.5) for my cycling shoes, but on these I went with a 46.5 and they are perfect. In general I would say come down a half size from your normal cycling shoe size. Width-wise, these are a just hair above average width, but not quite as wide as say a shimano shoe.

The best!

Wow these shoes are a game changer. Having never worn a full knitted upper like this before I was so impressed with how comprehensive and comfortable the fit was. From the first time putting them on the upper formed to my foot completely, without any pinching or tight spots. The knitted upper combined with the dual BOA system, and the padding around the back of the heel provided read more the perfect amount of lock down. Fit wise these couldn't have worked better for me. Along with a snug comfortable fit, having the knitted material provides great breath ability throughout the foot even on hot trainer rides in the basement. That combined with the amount of vents on the sole will give a ton of cooling in the hot summer months. I sized down a half size from my normal shoe, usually a 46, and the length was just right. Having the two BOAs allowed me to tailor the fit width wise, and was super comfortable on my slightly wide feet. Could not recommend these more. You won't be dissapointed!

Knit tops for the win!

My size: US 9/ EU 42 Size bought: 42.5 Fit: True to size This is one of my favorite shoes I’ve had already. I didn’t even have to mount cleats or put it on to know that I’d like it. When I first heard that Pearl Izumi made a cycling shoe with a knit top, I had mixed emotions about it. The distance cyclist in me said that it would be awesome to have a little bit more mobility read more and breathability on the top of my foot where I often cramp or feel pain as I’m riding during longer training days. The training cyclist in me worried that the flexibility of the knit top would create a loss of power transfer. After riding these shoes, the distance cyclist won out without question. In fact it turns out I had nothing to worry about as these shoes had as good or better power transfer than my S-works shoes from a couple of years ago. I will note that it felt weird as I put them on (they don’t slip on like a normal cycling shoe), but once they were on my foot, they felt extremely comfortable. Pearl Izumi built these with a ton of padding around the Achilles tendon area so that they actually surround your heel and keep it in place while you’re cycling. I felt like this made sure that I didn’t lose power in the heel area during my pedal stroke. The boa system as always is super reliable and easy to use. I did like that I can pop it up to loosen the whole shoe quickly or turn it backwards to loosen it incrementally. During hot rides, my feet will swell and if I’m on a longer straight segment, I like to open my shoe entirely sometimes to let the feet breathe. Once I get back in a pace line though I take a second to dial my shoes in perfectly so they aren’t too tight on my feet and I can focus on the ride. I feel like this shoe will enable all of those things pretty evenly. As expected from a knit top shoe, these shoes have awesome ventilation. In addition to the ventilation on the top, they have several wire/mesh ventilation spaces on the bottom. During the winter, this means that they will run a little colder than a normal shoe might and therefore might need additional socks/covers. But during the summer, it’s a huge benefit to help your feet stay cooler and shed some of that heat. The knit top allows for flexibility on the top of the shoe without feeling like it’s giving at all. The toe box is relatively wide on this shoe and I haven’t felt like my feet were cramped in there at all. All in all, this is one of the greatest shoes I’ve tried. I’ve enjoyed them everytime I’ve worn them and I expect as they break in more and more that they’ll become more and more comfortable. If you’re looking for a shoe that’s comparable to the S-Phyre or the S-Works, but wanting something that might be a little more comfortable for longer periods on the bike, look no further. Pearl Izumi has you covered.

Looking for some advice on toe box volume. How do these compare to Giro, Shimano, Specialized, and Fizik? Am familiar with these brands, but not PI. These shoes really look like a great summer crit shoe, so hoping to get some feedback.
