Patagonia Stormfront 45L Roll-Top Backpack reviews and deals for sale

The Patagonia Stormfront Roll Top Pack is an elegantly simple way to keep your lunch, camera, or extra sweatshirt dry when hiking through a rainforest to reach the water's edge. Fully welded seams hold rugged nylon together to give your gear true waterproof protection. Polyurethane coating on the outside and TPU coating on the inside prevent a single droplet from touching your stuff.

The roll top eliminates zippers, which means no more snagged jackets or spots for water to sneak in. Just roll it three times, click your heels, say "there's no place like the Olympic Peninsula," and wait for the magic to happen. No, that only happens in the movies, and you need ruby slippers. But, to create a watertight seal, you do roll the top three times, and then clip it closed on the side. Tighten the strap until no slack remains, and enjoy yourself without fear of your gear getting soaked.

The padded shoulder straps and adjustable waist belt are lined with 3D spacer mesh to minimize the amount of moisture between the pack and your skin. A single top grab handle makes it easy to snag this pack on the run or from an overhead compartment. Two lash points come equipped with rod tube holders. The lone exterior stash pocket isn't entirely watertight, but is the ideal place to store the plastic baggie with your ID, credit cards, and permit.

Once you've reached your final destination, attach the Patagonia Convertible vest (sold separately) to the shoulder straps. With this fly-fishing vest attached to the pack, you now have multiple drop-in pockets, zippered mesh pockets, and attachment points for all of your angling essentials.

WET WORKS

This has become my new operational swimmer pack. I wanted a dry pack since most of my work is done in and around the water. I’ve looked at several and it was a battle between this pack and the Sea to Summit Hydraulic pack. Ended up with the Patagonia because I REALLY like the roll top with side fasteners rather than the loop fastener the Hydraulic has. BUT I do wish this was read more either a 55L or even a 65L like the Hydraulic. I can fit all of my gear, including my fins, inside. My other gear for writing reports and extra gear won’t fit. So I will have to design a pouch to attach to the outside that has a quick release attachment. Overall...great, sturdy pack and serves its purpose for my needs. Not concerned about the comfort of the straps for my application but I can see if someone has a problem with them. Another nice product from Patagonia.

Pretty Much Awesome

It's not cheap, but if you need a bulletproof waterproof bag, this thing is the answer. Right out of the chute I took it down a river for seven days. Rained every day, was cold and damp the whole time. Dragged it through a few airports, buses and helicopters as well. Rugged, holds a ton, keeps everything dry. It doesn't have many pockets or gadgets on it, but I think that's one read more reason that it does what it does so well. Very few things to go wrong.

I take this thing everwhere

This has pack has been all that I have been looking for and more. For the past 3 steelhead seasons I've ventured into the Olympic Peninsula accepting that when the rain comes most everything in my pack would be drenched, even my sandwich. I cannot tell you how nice it is after 6 hrs of casting and miles into the National Park I can sit down and eat dry food hahaa. Its heaven! Ok read more ok this is just ONE PRO. The pack is also super lightweight and has both a waist strap as well as a chest strap making carrying things for a long time comfortable. It does a really good job evenly distributing the weight. I'd say my most FAVORITE feature is the roll top, it is really easy to just roll it up and go! I have a couple waterproof waist packs that are cool and do alright but 1.) They just don't hold enough and 2.) They have those super hard to open/close bulky zippers that at the end of the day you get over real quick. Also now carrying everything on my back I have more room in the front of me to cast, bend down, crawl over logs, rig up etc. without a bulky pack in the way. I got this pack last Sept 2017, since then I have taken it all up and down the PNW and west coast and even down into Louisiana for fly-fishing either walking/wading, doing a float or taking a ride on a boat. I have also used it for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and hiking and in any weather is just works! Lastly whenever it gets dirty since there is no fabric I literally just take it out back and rise it off with the water hose inside and out, each time it dries and looks almost perfectly brand new. So bomb. If I was a millionaire I would buy a crap load of these and hand them out to all the homies Oprah-style.

Catch More Fish

I prefer a backpack over a vest for fly fishing and because I always think the presentation from the other side of the river is better, I get myself into precarious wading situations and as a result get wet once in a while…. My old sea to summit roll top dry pack finally tore out so I replaced it with this Storm Front. Its working well and I expect many years of use from it. Appreciate read more the rod tube straps—nice addition—but why not include them for the other side too??? I reused my Voile straps so I can lash a 2 nd tube or a lightweight tripod on the other side. The elastic webbing is a nice addition for keeping a wading jacket close at hand. I also rigged my landing net to attach to the lower side of pack via a net retractor and hang from the waist strap via a magnetic holder. This keeps the net really accessible when fishing and when bushwhacking through trees its not getting caught up as it did when it was behind me.

I wish i would have had this for years, Good price for a waterproof bag, This bag has only what you need, and nothing you don't. 30L holds everything you need for the day, and i love the peace of mind knowing my things are safe from all types of conditions. The lash points are awesome pretty much holding or carrying anything you can think of.

Unexpected dunks and places you wanna go

I bought this to serve as a daypack for hikes away from camp on river trips. The duality of it serving as a dry bag while on the river makes it earn it's way with me saving a little space in a kayak. There have been times when unexpected canyon swims and river swims to get from point to point made me wish for a better solution than trying to hold my pack of perishables and valuables read more above my head while in the water. I even killed a phone on a river swim back to camp even though it was in a water resistant case and double bagged in a ziplock. No more! Problem solved. At 30L it holds everything I need for a few hours away from camp. The quality is excellent, what you would expect from Patagonia. For my needs, I find the simple interior pocket and the water resistant exterior pocket adequate. It has extra lash points and D rings. The harness is comfortable and of lasting quality. Intended initially for the fishing crowd, I have found the rod tube holder to be an excellent point for a camera tripod which I was always reluctant to carry before. With Patagonia's excellent warranty I have no worries about putting this through the ringer but so far have only used it once. I compare this to Seal Line's Boundary Pack and decided that the Patagonia was better for extended carries and has better features for such.

Ruler of all roll tops

This backpack eats other backpacks' tears for breakfast. The construction is amazing blowing other big name dry bags' offerings out of the water. (yuk yuk) The zippered water resistant pocket is quite large inside and the mesh interior pocket serves its purpose. Rod holder and tie down points are helpful when paired with carabiners. My solution to no storage inside is to pop a read more camera bag insert in when I need compartments. Bought this for wading in streams and rivers while fishing for trout. If you trap a little air inside and wade out deep enough, it floats and takes the weight off your shoulders. I find myself using it for anything and everything else imaginable. It keeps my hard drives dry on photo shoots and is obviously awesome for fishing of all sorts. On the fence? Buy it. You will not be disappointed.

Patagonia Stormfront

Great utility dry bag, that perfect for transporting gear in the tropics. We encountered numerous showers and everything in the bag was bone dry. The 1831 cu in allows for enough space to carry everything for a day trip.

Great for Fly and keeping things Dry!

Perfect pack for when you have a long approach, provides plenty of room for all day fun river slaying or when I'm in my kayak and I need something to keep the goods dry. You feel the quality of this pack the first time you touch it and you know no water is going to be penetrating this material and all the seams seemed to be reinforced to insure that. Pair this up with the convertible read more vest and you have the ultimate fly pack!

Awesome pack!

I absolutely love this pack. I was considering this and the Stormfront zippered pack, but this one was half the price. Pretty much a no brainer. I use this fishing all the time but also for everyday use and weekend trips. It's also perfect for long day-trips for fishing when combined with the convertible vest, these two are an amazing combo. Super durable pack and 100% waterproof. read more The exterior straps are great for a rod tube, waders or wading boots. I wish it came with 2 extra straps so you could really load it up but oh well! Super simple interior and it works well for maximum storage space.
