Patagonia R1 TechFace Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's reviews and deals for sale

New from Patagonia's technical fleece lineup, the Men's R1 Techface Hooded Fleece Jacket fits smoothly into your performance arsenal whether you're wearing it for early season climbing or a late-season ski tour. The next-to-skin feel of its fleece construction mimics the warm, stretchy, and breathable Patagonia Regulator fleece, but provides additional abrasion and weather resistance on its face. A DWR finish sheds light precipitation, articulated patterning keeps you moving freely during your ascent, and the hood is compatible with climbing helmets so you don't have to sacrifice safety in favor of comfort. Low-bulk, snag-resistant cuffs keep a low profile on your wrists whether you're cleaning a route or removing your skins, and the hem and hood are drawstring adjustable if an unexpected winter breeze makes an out-of-season appearance.

Great base layer or light jacket

Nice athletic fit like most of Patagonia's stuff. I'm 5'10''/175lbs and got the medium. Great for climbing, hood fits well over helmet and will cinch down tight without helmet. No thumb holes like the other R1 hoodie but the cuffs do fit well and don't get in the way for climbing or other activities, they aren't loose or too long. I was hoping with the TechFace finish it would be read more more wind resistant but it's still a little breezy. Only slightly better than a standard R1 hoodie for wind but it isn't the same weight. It's slightly lighter than the standard R1 and doesn't seem as warm to me but the full zipper design is much better. I like the jacket for the not so cold days but for colder days I think I will get an R2 Tech Face jacket since my original R1 seems warmer.

Great Lightweight Jacket !!!!

Wore for the first time today on my hike/ walk , temps were mid 20's and windy , only had a UA baselayer and R1 , was nice and warm , also like they shorten the sleeves, don't have to fold up the cuffs. Love the Mango color. I'm 6' 170 lbs and size lrg fits great . Also have the Balkan Blue and Fire Red R1 !!!! Highly Recommend !!!!

Great Rock Climbers Coat

Love this jacket. It was a little staticy at first? Nice durable fabric too.

Picky Boyfriend Approved

I borrowed one of these from our pile of testing gear for my boyfriend. He's a total princess-and-the-pea with midlayer jackets - he hates being cold, but he also overheats super easily & turns into a hot mess with foggy ski goggles. He's rejected just about every other puffy or sweater or fleece on the market, which is why I nabbed this in a last-ditch effort to find something read more that would be warm enough without being too warm. Finally! At last! It took a couple tries to get the baselayers right, but this is the first midlayer he's tried that was both warm & breathable enough to hold up to a whole day of skiing.

I'm a big fan

Great looking piece, super versatile, can be used while climbing, hiking, spring skiing, or ski touring and around town. I really like how stretchy it is and how it has a DWR finish - so not waterproof, will shed some rain, but stay away from downpoors. I wanted to include this great review by Outside - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsxEnKifDCM

Plenty warm while still so lightweight!

I used this jacket for my last mt. biking trip and it was fantastic. It packs small and is super light to shove in your backpack while also providing great wind blockage for the downhill. The black is also super sleek, definitely into it.

Late delivery of items

I just purchased four items in the past two weeks and three out of the four items were delivered after 7 days while I was promised 2 days of delivery. This is extremely annoying and I am not sure whether I will use backcountry again

Awesome Fleece with Extra protection

I can't add much that hasn't already been stated below. The jacket fits as expected for Patagonia, is warm, looks great, functions even better. One thing I really loved though, is the abrasion resistance of the face fabric. One gripe I have with fleeces used for activities is how easily they snag and pull. This extra layer of protection is ideal to reduce those snags!

Perfect Layer OR Solo Piece

This jacket works equally well on its own for summer alpine adventures OR as a layer for winter touring. It isn't too insulating, it does a great job at regulating temperature. I feel like it runs slightly large. If you're in between sizes, size down. If you typically order exclusively the same size, order your typical size. As others have mentioned it doesn't have the typical athletic read more fit that Arc'teryx does, it's more natural. Overall this is a great jacket and definitely one I would want to have in my rotation.

Awesome light weight tech layer

Got to test this jacket out for a few days of spring skiing and hiking around snowbird and loved it! The water resistances keeps out any unwanted moisture yet the jack is still really breathable.

Keeps the chill out

What a great jacket! I keep this handy when I commute or out camping, it works great when there is a little chill in the air and you need to stay warm. I feel it's also quite stylish. I am 5'9" 175 lbs with a 43 inch chest. According to the size chart I'm a large which is exactly what I got and it fit spot on.

What more could you want?

It's an R1 people. Tried and tested through the years. I got rained on lightly and had no issues. The DWR finish seems to do the trick in lighter storms. It is not a snow jacket and only provides minimal warmth, but I used it in 40 degree weather and it held up great! Definitely a buy.

Great 2 in 1 Piece

This jacket fills the gap between a lightweight fleece and a soft shell jacket. I find it very useful in my kit for ski touring and rock climbing when I don't want to carry two different items. The fabric is breathable, but repels water well and seems highly durable.

Perfect Spring Jacket

I Love this Hooded Jacket for my springtime adventures, it is a very versatile jacket that could be used as a shell or just a nice stand alone jacket. I went with the XL on this jacket and it is a bit to large, If I ordered this jacket again i think the L would be perfect.

sick jacket!

This hoody is so nice. The fit is spot on and the material is great, not really like anything i've had before. It's breathable but also sheds water well, and provides just the right amount of warmth for when it's a little breezy or chilly outside. Very lightweight and it looks good too. I got the Large which was perfectly roomy without looking baggy at all.

Does it get any better? Nope.

I love this thing. I was looking for a lightweight and simple full zip hoodie that I could throw on whenever. It turns out its that but so much more. Wind and water resistant? sign me up. It's the ultimate Spring time go-to.

Checks All the Boxes

I originally bought this jacket to just wear around town and to work and have a lightweight piece for Fall and Spring days when it gets a little chilly. But this jacket is so much more than that. Not only does this jacket look good, this jacket is waterproof and wind resistant. I've been caught out in the rain in it, and I also wore this jacket while riding a motorcycle, and I've read more been really impressed about how well it held up. I've started using this jacket in the mornings on my runs, since it does add some warmth and block the wind, and it doesn't look out of place if worn as a running jacket. The chest pocket is large enough for my phone or my wallet. I also prefer a longer waist on my jackets, and this one is a really good length and cut. The hood is also great. When fully zipped up and the hood on, my mouth and chin are protected from the cold, and the fleece continues into the hood itself keeping my head warm. My one and only complaint about this jacket is that it does attract pet hair more than some jackets. But lint rollers are cheap, and outside of that, this is easily now my favorite jacket that I own.

Delivery

Ordered this jacket on 10/30 for 2 day delivery- still haven’t received it. First, the 10% discount did not apply automatically, I had to call. Secondly, I still haven’t received email confirmation of my order . Doubtful I will use your company again

I like it!

I don't usually write reviews on the stuff I buy, but I wanted to point out that this jacket runs large. I ALWAYS wear a large when it comes to Patagonia jackets/shirts. I read elsewhere where the reviewer noted that the jacket ran large, so I bought a medium and large with the intent of returning one. I'm 6', ~180lb and the large was a bit baggy on me. the sleeves were also read more very long, extending almost down to my finger tips. the medium fit very well: nice and trim with my body, the sleeves extended just to the knuckle of my thumb. definitely more in line with how my other Patagonia gear fits. can't say much as far as performance (its getting warm here in NC), but it does have a much 'harder' shell than my R1. i'm really hoping it offers some decent wind protection.

You Will Kick Ass in This Jacket

I heard that Patagonia was going to release this jacket, but as a college student I don't have a lot of disposable income to blow on outdoor gear. So naturally, I sent the link to my dad who is the biggest gearhound I know, and thought nothing more of it. I got a Snapchat from him at a store with the jacket on and a simple caption of "holy sh*t". So the next day, I went and bought read more one. I didn't take the thing off for like 10 days. I slept in it. I ate in it. I biked to campus in it. This thing can do it all. And inevitably, when those BC spring drizzles came through, I kept wearing it. Simply, this jacket does it all. It's breathable, warm, comfortable, and water repellent enough that you don't need to worry if a light rain comes to pass. This jacket ensures that whatever you're doing, you kick ass doing it. From the trails to the bike (or even horse) saddle, this thing will keep you cozy. And it looks damn good. I have to commend Patagonia on finally getting their hood right. For the past several years, the hoods on their non-shell jackets have gone through a number of different design iterations, all of them were supposed to serve some purpose but kind of flopped in the all-round. The climbing-oriented hoods didn't work for other activities, and/or it downright just looked dumb. The hood on the R1 Techface has a nice brim, is large but not overly so, and can cinch around the head and neck for when it gets windy. And you don't look like a dork when wearing it (cough cough nano-shell). This jacket has a pretty typical Patagonia trim fit, so you might want to size up if you're trying to layer underneath it. If you're expecting this jacket to be completely waterproof, it isn't. I wanted to test just how waterproof it was on a medium Vancouver downpour and was soaked through in about 20 minutes. My one gripe with it is the wrist cuffs. There's no wrist strap and the sleeves are a little long (or I just have T-Rex arms), so inevitably the sleeves tend to slide down over my hands. Having a way to secure it would be nice, but it's definitely not a deal breaker. TL;DR: this jacket is the ultimate spring companion that will keep you cozy from the skin-track to the concrete, all while making sure you look good. Be warned: you might get a visit from Bruce Lee because you'll be kicking too much ass while wearing it. Bruce Lee doesn't like competition.
