Rocked a Mexico surf trip

This worked perfectly for me for a weeklong surf trip in Mexico. It covered up my upper torso really effectively. I left the hood down most of the time, with no issue. I like that it’s default position is to cover the back of your neck since this area usually takes the brunt of the sun. I did pull the hood up occasionally when the sun was getting to me during long sessions read more and it worked extremely well. It stays covering everything but your face from the jaw to the forehead, with the bill adding extra protection. Didn’t have any drainage problems with the hood like someone else said. The thumb loops at the end of the arm sleeve helped to keep it extended all the way down the arm and 3/4 down the palm of the hand. Never had any issue with the bottom pulling up above my waist. I’m a slender/athletic dude. It fit like a muscle shirt which is exactly what you want for a rash guard. If anything consider ordering up if you’re thicker than I. The material is stretchy so there is some play but it’s gonna show all them curves....just like a rash guard does. I pushed my luck and used the back pocket to stash my encased phone during one sesh. Not advised at all, but it didn’t open up through numerous wipeouts in 4 ft waves, and jah be good my phone was fine after :) Personally I would have liked to see some kind of way to secure an item within the back pocket, like a small sewn-in loop to attach things, similar to typical board short setups. As-is, it’s just a solid zipper action that keeps it closed. I wouldn’t feel comfortable stashing stuff back there on the reg, I was constantly checking the pocket as it was during my many wipeouts. Not a big deal though, that would be a bonus for an already awesome item. All in all this is another one of those Patagonia products I hope lasts a decade a more like some of their other gear I own, but time will tell.

Way too small

Based on my experience with other somewhat similar Patagonia products (Capilene Cool Daily and Capilene Tropic Comfort hoodies), I bought 2 large R0s. They are so small they are ridiculous. Nearly impossible to get my torso into and the neck tightness almost literally strangled me. The brim on the hood, which itself is tiny, is stupid-looking. Back they go. Disappointed read more and surprised that Patagonia would make such an ill-fitting garment.

Great surfing rash guard for sunny days

This is for surfing. Rash guards should be tight so that they don’t ride up. It is very tight, which is what I wanted. I wouldn’t walk around with it to look cool, but it keeps my neck and face from getting blasted by the sun. I wish it had water drains in the ears though. It takes a minute for the hood to drain after a duck dive or wipeout which is slightly annoying because read more of the way it sounds having a tight hood filled with water. If it had drains, I would give it a five stars.

Great item for bikers

I bought this for my son in law. He loved it! It does run small but costumer service went above and beyond to do a quick exchange! I love this company!

Changed the cut of this shirt

I bought 2 of these shirts in 2018 (exactly called Patagonia R0 Sun Long-Sleeve Hooded Shirt - Men's ) and that were great for fishing - somewhat loose fitting. The shirt I received, in the exact same size is extremely tight fitting. Very disappointing where is the old version of the shirt...

Hood way too small for XL shirt

Nicely made garment with one major flaw: the hood is way too small for an XL person -- once you manage to get it over your head, the elastic closure strangles the wearer, even at its most extended. Too bad, because it otherwise fits well, and would serve as a good rashguard. Had to return.

Perfect for sun protection

Ordered this before a surf trip to Nicaragua and was very pleased. It is thin and not a rash guard by any means but great for sun protection.

Omigod, it's small

I saw the other reviews, and thought I was being careful enough. I'm 6'2" and 210 lbs., reasonably fit build. So I ordered the XXL. To be clear, I've *never* owned a 2XL of *anything.* Typically wear an L in shirts, or occasionally an XL in sweaters/overwear. I own an Orvis hoodie that's an M and fits me perfectly! Even as an XXL, this thing fits like a snug rashguard. Every contour read more of my not-as-lean-as-I'd-like belly is on display in heartbreaking detail. Nope, this one is going back. Oh, and the bill is a bit goofy. And there's no neck zipper.

Best Money I’ve Spent in a Long Time

This is a fantastic piece of equipment. I agree with other reviewers, you probably want to consider sizing up. I am normally a large but went with an XL. For my purpose, which is to have something that can cover me completely on extra hot days, this is the ticket. Super light weight and feels more durable that old-school, original UA shirts (almost as thin as Heat Gear but the elasticity read more of Cold Gear, if that makes sense). I thought the hood and visor/hat would look super dorky, but they don’t. Rather they provide the wearer with piece of mind that in the event one starts to bake, your saving shadow is there. Kind of like a warm blanket, only cooooler, in all sense of the word. Ha ha ha. Will almost certainly keep one of these in my Jeep, just in case. Highest marks to Patagonia and BackCountry for making and bringing to consumers an essential, Summer saver!!!

Great product. Runs small/tight.

Have not gotten on the water yet (live in co) but quality is great and the sun visor is fantastic. Quality of craftsmanship and materials are all good! Excited to get this on the ocean and I’m sure I’ll use it in the whitewater play parks for kayaking this summer as well. *** fitment is the definition of euro fitted ***. I am a skinny lanky dude and I almost went up read more a size from my norm. Decided to stay with medium.

Keep the Sun Off

This product is really helpful when you're spending exorbitant amounts of time out in the sun surfing and need to preserve your skin

Great water shirt

Got this in XL for my husband, who is typically a L or XL in shirts, and we had to exchange it for an XXL, so FYI! It looks good on him, keeps the sun and heat at bay, and the hood has its own little visor attached. Great for paddling!

Next to Skin

I gave this as a gift and have feedback to share - be aware of the slimmmmmmm fit! Great option for surfing - while it is tight, the fabric gets a bit of stretch once wet

Best decision I have ever made.

I bought this for my boyfriend as a gift and this is what he had to say about it: I have always been a fan of Patagonia gear, but never thought I would buy a rash guard from this company. I asked for this rash guard for surfing down in Mexico. It was the best decision I have ever made. The rash guard is true to fit and stretches a little bit once in the water. My favorite feature read more is the hood. As a bald man I highly recommend this product if you want to keep you noggin from frying.

Be advised this is skin-tight

Not for fishing, it’s more for surfing, like the description says basically. Small neck hole. And I have a small neck.

Great concept, neck opening too small

Would be perfect for surfing if face/neck opening were larger--painful to pull hoodie on/off

3 weeks surfing in Indonesia...

...and I'm still pale as this shirt. Bought one without the hood and one with, and didn't even bother pulling the one without the hood out of the bag. The hooded one is quite nice, especially when everyone has their hands up blocking the sun waiting for a set, and I have a hood doing the work for me, and it doesn't choke you if you want to pull the hood down to get a little vitamin read more D on the face. Wore it everyday (not kidding) for three weeks straight, and although it's a little dirty, it held up great. They do seem to run a little small, I'm 6 foot 225 lbs. and probably should've gone with the xxl, but the xl worked, and it did stretch a bit once it was wet. Enjoy!

fits really TIGHT

they aren't kidding when they say form fitting. I am 5'10 150 lbs and the medium is almost TOO tight, but I do like the form fitting for more active activities, and it is easiier to fit under something like a life vest
