December 9, 2020Great jacket - fit can be an issue
This is the best ski/snowboard shell I’ve ever owned. I’m 5’10”, 170lbs, athletic build and I’m i. Between a small and a medium. This jacket runs bigger than most. The sleeves are a bit long and there’s a bit more room in the chest than I’d like but a small is just a bit too tight around the waste. I owned this jacket for 5 years in a large prior to buying this one.… read more I recently lost 30 lbs the old one didn’t fit anymore. Despite using it at least 10x year for 5 years, my old one still looks brand new. The jacket is hearty and almost impossible to tear, even if you’re an aggressive in the tree glades. I only wish they’d adjust the fit a bit smaller. Great jacket!

February 29, 2020Tall/Lanky skiers rejoice!
I'm 6'4"/195-200lbs and prefer Patagonia's slim fit as opposed to regular fit when it comes to jackets. I bought this in a large and couldn't be happier! It doesn't fit as short and boxy as other Patagonia shells I've owned. For an additional size reference, I love the fit (and feel) of my large Nano Air Hoody. Both the hoody and the shell layer beautifully together.

December 9, 2019Sleeves Way too Long
The XL fit in the shoulders and length but the sleeves were about 6" too long so I ordered the large it fit more like a slim fit jacket and the sleeves were still too long. I have XL Marmot, North face jackets and have never had this issue. I am disappointed the red color was exactly what I wanted and the jacket was what I wanted it just has vary long sleeves. I guess if it was… read more available in a short version it may work. For now I'm just out 20-30 dollars in freight

November 5, 2019Beautiful jacket, but way too long
I've wanted this jacket for a long time. I bought a medium, just like my other Patagonia puffy jackets. It fits great in the chest, shoulders and arms, but it is way too long. It covers my entire butt and upper thighs. Imagine walking and skiing in a miniskirt.

August 30, 2019Great Jacket!
Last winter was my first season skiing - so this is my first ski jacket. I love this thing. Lots of pocket space for all the essentials. Great for laying with my Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket during the freezing cold but breathable enough to wear alone during Spring skiing. The only thing that I was let down by is the pocket on the left sleeve - it is great in theory for trail… read more maps and such but is almost impossible to close with just one hand, so you'll need to take of your glove/mittens or grab a friend to help you.

March 30, 2019Very Good Jacket
This is a great jacket; however, like most high end ski or climbing jackets, it was made for someone of a much slimmer build. I am a bit on the "thick' side; this is a great wearing jacket, but is "snug" about the abdomen. It will be hard to fit more than one or two thin layers underneath. Otherwise, this is a great Jacket!

February 21, 2019For those powder hounds!
Warm, comfortable, waterproof, windproof, stylish with plenty of pockets. Can easily wear a base and a down under this shell. The hood is sized well enough to fit a helmet. By putting it on you can just tell it really is built to last. Bonus that it comes in bright colors to make it easier to spot on the mountain.

February 4, 2019Great bang for the buck
This Shell was incredible. It has the incredible build quality and craftsmanship we all know and expect form Patagonia. This jacket is wind proof, waterproof and just plain awesome. I wore it in rainy conditions while skiing and though soaked on the surface, it kept me completely dry and warm all day. The sealed seam pockets make for confidence with keeping your stuff from being… read more lost. The internal phone and key pocket near the stomach makes life much easier, and keeps your phone out of harms way. As a snowboarder, I found the length to be adequate to cover my booty, and the the cut to be modern cool, yet classic styling. The hood fits over my ski helmet comfortably, and does not take away from my ability to turn my head.

February 1, 2019Solid Shell
Fantastic shell jacket from Patagonia! It's actually a bit heavier and burlier than I expected when I wore it, but that's not a bad thing! I wore it on several deep powder days and flew through some trees with branches hitting the jacket, and there wasnt even a scratch! IT has a lot of great pockets for your pass, goggles, phone, keys, wallet, you name it! I really like the fit… read more of the medium although I'm usually a small in most ski jackets. One thing I would improve on the jacket is the zippers. The string they have on them is really small and hard to grip with gloves on. so maybe something a bit easier to grab would be a nice improvement. Other than that, it's a burly, reliable shell that will keep you dry on the deepest days.

January 29, 2019Has only gotten better
I got a Powder Bowl jacket around 2009 that is still great today, and ten years later, it's only gotten better. The 2019 model is lighter, has a more tailored fit (not tight but there isn't any excess material where there shouldn't be), and it has all the pockets you could need. Including fleece lined hand warmer pockets which my older jacket didn't have. Also, the shape of the… read more collar is much more accommodating for thicker neck gaiters so things don't get too tight around the face when you're zipped all the way up.

January 23, 2019Best ski jacket ever
This is now my favorite ski jacket I have ever owned. The shell and gore-tex keeps you nice and dry while the little bit of mesh linings adds just the right amount of warmth.

January 17, 2019Whistler tested
I wish I had skied in Whistler this winter, but a close friend did and here is his feedback on this jacket: This jacket has been a life changer for me. The powderbowl takes Gore-tex to a whole new level, I spent 2 days in torrential rain pour in Whistler, B.C. And never had a drop of water underneath this jacket. It is definitely a shell so don’t expect any insulation when you’re… read more purchasing this item, but I was quick to comment on its windbreaking capability. 60+ mph doesn't matter, the wind or moisture won’t affect your warmth in this jacket.

December 13, 2018pretty nice jacket
The jacket was nice to wear out and about. It was very comfortable and looked nice. The 2_layer Gore-Tex would have been sure to keep me dry had I worn it on-hill. The only thing that I can think of that would be a downside of the jacket is that when wearing my bibs, the jacket was really tight around the waist. I wish that it had a bit more of a loose fit around the waist of the… read more coat. If you're looking for a nice jacket to wear around this would be a good option.

March 19, 2018Dependable Shell
Top-tier materials and dependable Patagonia fit and construction yield a shell made for one thing: getting after it. The Gore-Tex fabric does the trick here and seems capable of withstanding significant moisture without hesitation. The taped seams and sealed zippers keep the weak spots nice and dry. It is definitely a shell with no insulation provided - it will handle the wind… read more and moisture just fine but warmth is on you. Plan on using a layer for insulation underneath and make that part of your sizing decision.

February 23, 2018Nice, but Velcro on arm cuffs wore out
Great jacket, works like you'd expect a hard shell to. Works especially well when paired with a hood-less nano puff. Fits a bit longer than most Patagonia medium jackets. I could have gone down to a small for a more snug, "alpine" look. Resort wear in general seems to fit a bit longer these days. The only real negative is that the Velcro on the arm cuffs wore out. I'm replacing… read more the Velcro myself for the remainder of the season and then will send to Patagonia for more a permanent repair once this ski season is over. This problem is certainly a minor inconvenience, but worth noting in a review.

February 23, 2018Great Shell Jacket
This is a great jacket, just arrived and very excited. Most other reviewers are spot on, it is a shell jacket and lightweight (not insulated). I'm almost 6'0" tall and about 170 lbs and I got the Medium which seems to fit perfectly with a little extra roominess for layering. I think most people's reactions that this jacket runs large are true, I would have been swimming in a… read more Large size but its really about preference. It does seem to be a little longer than normal.

February 21, 2018Excellent Shell, Super Functional
I use this shell primarily in bounds at the center of the powder skiing universe (Alta, UT). I personally have not used this for touring yet but have done hikes at Alta and other resorts that require a little bit of uphill action. This jacket has excellent venting but is still a super warm shell due to its 2 Layer Gore-Tex layering. If you plan on touring with this you may not… read more like it for warm spring days but more in colder/windy/stormy conditions. Excellent waterproofing! Gore-Tex really holds up to all your needs to keep you dry. On those storm days when it is constantly dumping, having the right waterproofing can make or break your day. Currently I have the men's Flylow Baker Bibs to match this outfit and their waterproofing does not hold up as well as Gore-Tex (these bibs are still amazing BTW). I would highly suggesting getting the matching Patagonia powder bowl pants or other similar products to stay ultimately dry. As for fit, I am 5'11"/200 lbs/38in waist and ordered the large. The large works well when I am not too layered. Fortunately with the shell being pretty warm I do not have to layer too thickly in the Wasatch Mountains. If I lived in a colder climate such as Montana, I would have went with the XL for additional layering. I also run pretty warm when I ski so for me I have an issue with over layering. The most I will probably ever wear under this jacket is a thick base layer (Under Armour 3.0), Sherpa Polartec mid weight fleece, and Patagonia Nano Puff. Normally this will get me pretty overheated so I only wear this on the coldest days with no uphill action.

February 7, 2018Great Shell Jacket
I got this jacket as an outer ski layer and I love it it. With that being said it is only an outer layer. It is waterproof and breathable. It is also has armpit vent pockets for spring days. This shell runs on the larger size. I usually wear a medium jacket but in this jacket I purchased a small and it has plenty of room for a size small puffy jacket underneath it. I feel as… read more if the jacket is just on the long side. Overall, I would recommend this jacket to anyone.

February 6, 2018solid shell...needs better pockets
i bought this to replace a TNF shell and wore it a few times. It is very well made, functional, and serves its purpose, however I went back to my prior TNF shell as the pockets on the Patagonia were a bit bothersome and difficult to use with ski gloves on. As others have stated, its also runs a bit big. I'm 6'4 190 and I could likely wear an L as the XL is very roomy.

January 27, 2018Fits 6’5” husband well but just a shell
Amazing coat- worth every penny for tall guys (bought for my 6’5” 205lb husband) But definitely meed to wear a puffy underneath this coat.

January 21, 2019I'm 5'10", 160lbs with a slender build. Debating between Medium and Small. Usually end up with Small in about everything I buy since I don't like a lot of excess bulk. But I would like to be able to wear a puffy underneath this for really cold days. Any advice?
Jeff
November 29, 2018I'm 6'3", 40" suit size, 35.5" sleeve length, but fairly skinny at 165 lbs - I know the last gen ran a bit long: would I be best served by a medium or a large in this shell? Planning to wear with form fitting insulation/base layers.
