May 1, 2020Most Versatile Jacket I've Owned
This my most used and most versatile jacket. It's impressive how well it breathes when you start to overheat. It can be used in extreme temps if you layer properly. I've used it for skiing, climbing, canyoneering, etc. and it's held up pretty well. The only problem I've had is that the material pills up pretty badly. It would be more noticeable on a bright colored jacket, but on… read more the black one it doesn't look too bad. I have put a few holes in it, but it was from down-climbing in a super narrow slot canyon and I was actually surprised that I came out with only 2 small holes.

March 4, 2020Versatile Mid-Layer
Since I bought this jacket it has probably been my most worn and packed piece of gear. This is my go to mid layer because of its versatility and breath-ability. I've used the jacket for mountaineering (both in the PNW, and the White and Smokey Mountains), snowboarding, backpacking, and even just casually around town and it has done the job and more. I've consistently worn this jacket… read more in temperatures ranging from zero to sixty degrees Fahrenheit with no problem whatsoever with overheating (even when on extended climbs while other people are shedding layers). Would highly recommend to anyone looking to add a versatile mid-layer to their arsenal. You won't regret it.

I've got a 2017 (gen 2) nano-air hoody and it is by far my favorite piece of clothing. The breathability absolutely cannot be beat! When just sitting still, I am fine to wear this from 30-65F. If performing moderate activity, this thing is good down to 0F for me. I've worn this on mountaineering trips, splitboard tours, riding at the resort, hanging out at the crag, on light hikes,… read more hanging out at camp, and just about everywhere else. While being an exceptional piece of technical gear, it is super comfy and gets a lot of use around town and at home. The 2020 version (gen 3) is a nice upgrade to a great piece. It has a more athletic cut and reduced weight. The only thing worth knowing about this piece is that, given its focus on being breathable, it offers nearly no wind protection. Don't fret, a shell or windshirt will easily take care of that when needed. If you don't have one, get one! (If you do, get a nano-air light hybrid. Trust me, you'll love it just as much!)

I got to try this jacket out for 2 weeks and this thing is sick for shoulder season. I used it biking, hiking, and for around town. Really warm for the weight. I couldn't wear it in the office because it was too warm. Sizing is slim as noted, but not overly slim. It also has stretch panels so it feels less small. Sweet jacket!

March 2, 2019Epic-ly breathable jacket!
Love this jacket! With the Patagonia Nano products, I always mention how I feel I'm at "equilibrium temp" because you're never too cold or too hot when wearing them. This jacket is no different! It's very breathable and ventilated, but still warm and insulated, so it's the perfect option for any winter exercise that starts out cold but then has you heating up as you get pumping.… read more I will never go on a winter split without it!

February 9, 2019Does what it says
Use for skin track and making turns. Coat kept me comfortable on the climbs and maintained my heat on the descent and while putting the skins back on my skis for the climb. I had my doubts the jacket would do as the description claimed it would but it has exceeded my expectation. I haven't had it long enough to know whether the fabric pills as some of the reviews have mention,… read more but even if it does, the exceptional range of its comfort zone from highly aerobic climbs to cold descents is my reason for purchasing this item. It works well and has very little mass, my wife thought I got an empty box in the mail when it arrived.

January 23, 2019My go-to jacket
I'm 6'3" 205lbs and the XL fits perfectly! This is my go-to jacket for all situations as I live out West. It's perfect as a midlayer for snowboarding, a standalone jacket in 50 degree temps, and is extremely comfortable. I've had the jacket for two years and wear it 5x a week during the fall and winter and it still looks brand new! Absolutely would purchase again.

December 20, 2018To AIR is human, to WEAR divine
This hoody was clearly crafted by celestial beings. It feels like I am wrapped in a blanket of clouds. Seriously, though, this is an amazing layer that is well at home both for technical ascents/descents in the mountains, and casual forays around town. For reference, I am 6'1", 175lbs and I tested out the medium. The medium was certainly functional, but I'd probably go with a large… read more ultimately so that I can push the sleeves up, which was a little hard to do in the medium size. I'd also like to have a bit more room for under-layer options. The stretchy material found in strategic areas and around the hood is super nice for active movement when climbing or ski touring. 4 zippered pockets are great for organizing the little essentials. A DWR coating helps fight off light weather (nice touch). The best part IMO is how the material will keep you super warm when that's needed, but breathe very well when you are exerting energy. Plus it just looks sharp! As always, Patagonia has produced a stellar piece of gear with this hoody. 5 stars well deserved.

November 23, 2018Great jacket
This jacket is awesome. Super warm, big enough to layer with a flannel underneath but not so bulky that it looks like you're a kid wearing your dad's jacket. Excited to see how it holds up in the weather, but I'm guessing it will be great on bluebird days and will work well under a shell on stormy days.

November 11, 2018Versatile as can be
While I had originally bought to wear as a mid-layer under my shell for skiing, this mighty little jacket is proving to be my favorite go-to for everything. For me, the selling point was the double chest pockets, it's great fit, and the DWR finish. If you're looking for the one quiver mid layer jacket, look no further.

November 3, 2018Best puffy Iâve owned
Title says it all. Jacket is cut for active movement and itâs so cozy even layered with a simple shirt. Throw a thermal on underneath and youâll sweat if youâre moving

October 25, 2018Love it
The “paintbrush red” is more of a traffic cone orange but it still looks good. Jacket is super warm. I wouldn’t recommend it for the wind though. Overall would buy again!

I've owned this jacket for about 2 weeks now, been taking everywhere with me. Love the way it feels, and way it looks.

October 25, 2018Great Versatile Piece
I picked up this jacket because I was looking for something that I could climb in comfortable but not overheat. I ended up using it for that and so much more. I absolutely love the fit of this jacket! I'm 5' 9" 150 lbs and the Medium was a perfect fit for me. This piece is now my go-to for climbing, camping, ski touring, and casual wear. I can't seem to take it off. It's great to… read more layer with and offers plenty of mobility and breathability for more strenuous activities. Plus the Big Sur Blue is the coolest color ever.

October 25, 2018Uncomfortable when compared to Arc'teryx
This review is more of a suggestion to try it on in the store if you can find one. I felt the neck/hood opening to be to small and tight, and the material on the inside was rough against my skin. For the same price, I liked the Arc'teryx Atom AR a lot more.

October 15, 2018Awesome active layering piece
I took this jacket for a spin last weekend while visiting the Bitterroot range in western Montana. If you're looking for a jacket to keep you warm while you're out being active during chilly weather, Patagonia hit the mark with this jacket. The DWR finish works great when wearing this jacket on its own through inclement weather, and I never had a problem shaking the water off… read more to avoid it from getting too soaked as we unloaded the car in a rainstorm. Later that day, I layered a gore-tex shell over this and I never felt like it was too bulky or reduced my mobility at all. It does have a slim cut, but the fabric moves with you and hugs your body, so it fits snug while not being restrictive. I would totally suggest this for a jacket to wear while hanging out at camp, climbing in colder temperatures, or as a midlayer while skiing at the resort or backcountry. It even looks good when wearing it around town too.
