Patagonia Houdini Full-Zip Jacket - Men's reviews and deals for sale
Wind can be a pretty big hassle on outdoor adventures, but when it comes to protection you've got a trick up your sleeves, on your harness, in your pack, and pretty much anywhere else. It's the ultralight, ultra-packable Patagonia Houdini Full-Zip Jacket. Made with a lightweight recycled nylon ripstop that blocks the wind on summit trails and exposed rock faces, this jacket weighs less than four ounces and packs down in an instant. The entire jacket stuffs into its own carabiner-loop chest pocket, letting you clip it onto a pack or harness when the wind dies down, or tuck it into a pocket of even the smallest running pack. A DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating helps shed lighter rain when ever-changing mountain weather throws you a curveball, and the one-pull adjustable hood tacks on added protection from the elements. You've got all of that, plus a full-zip design that lets you ventilate easy when you start to work up a sweat pushing towards the summit, whether you're climbing a face or dogging it up a trail so steep it just feels like one.

August 28, 2020Switched to this from Arcteryx Incendo
I had originally bought the Incendo Hoodie from Arcteryx, but it was too small (biggest they offer is XL) for my 6'4" 235lb body. I really liked the Incendo other than size. Overall the Houdini is great and fits the purpose well and size-wise fits me perfectly. However I really liked the side pocket on the Incendo and the button in the middle of the zipper for dumping heat during… read more runs. If the Incendo was offered in XXL or XL-Tall then it would get 5-stars from me and the Houdini 4. Great product, but I miss the Incendo. If you are tall then go with the Houdini, but if shorter then go with the Incendo. The extra $30 is worth it.

May 18, 2020Windbreaker yes, wet weather no.
This is a great jacket to have in your pack during the summer. If there is any rain in the forecast bring something else. I generally use this for trail running. It fits perfect in my vest, is ultra lightweight and really adds a nice layer when things get a little windy or cool out there. The DWR layer is basically worthless though in my opinion. I do live in the Pacific Northwest… read more here, and I know that can take a toll on any rain jacket. But this didn't stand up to even a little bit of mist. Overall nice windbreaker but that's it. October 2, 2019Perfect for summer Alpine ascents
This jacket is right at home in the alpine in the summer. Its super light and packable. From doing miles of windy exposed ridge line to backpacking in the trees where its a little to windy for just a T-shirt. this jacket works well and is Super light at only 3 1/2 Oz there's no reason not to have this layer as insurance in the mountains. I'd say the Fit is slim and is true to size,… read more surprisingly Patagonia makes the selves long enough for people with a positive ape index. Absolutely love this jacket and will be with me on all of my Fast and Light Ascents as well as my morning commutes.

September 16, 2019Finally found its place in my pack
If you have a good idea of the weather forecast and rain is not in it, this is a great jacket in the mountains. Took it to CO last month and I would usually have a hardshell in my pack for high mountain hikes or doing a 14er. With a favorable forecast I decided to take this jacket instead and it was perfect. Above treelike when the wind was whipping this thing kept me warm and… read more weighed next to nothing, and was breathable enough. Zips into its own pocket and takes up less room than a sandwich. If I had one gripe it might be lack of hood adjustability but I have an older model and not sure if the newer ones address this. Definitely going to be bringing this along more often.

July 15, 2019Solid Lightweight Jacket
I took this to an outdoor concert, where the weather forecast was iffy. It fit inside my hip pack, along with my wallet, keys, a hat, and some other stuff. This is a great emergency jacket to stash in your pack! Fits true to size, along with Patagonia products.

July 5, 2019I tried it didn't work
I purchased after much consideration to replace the marmot trailwind jacket I had and loved. It's just too lightweight for me really... flaps around too much with it unzipped, and the inside pocket is not sewn to the jacket so it flops out the zipper. For 100 bucks I'm not feeling it. I do agree with others that the build is quality otherwise and it's true to size etc. Just… read more not quite for me for the price for those reasons.

June 10, 2019Great at keeping the cold wind out
Wore this at the top of a very windy, snowy and cold Mt. Whitney and Boundary Peak this past week (June 6-8). This jacket is amazingly warm despite how thin is seams to be.

May 21, 2019Works well!
This jacket is a slim fit and has a pretty good fit! I am 6'1" and the large fit perfect. It was used running in the rain and it worked flawlessly. It was just enough to shed a light drizzle if it rained for a longer period of Time I think the DWR coating on the jacket wouldn't be enough but this was perfect to cut out the cold chill and light rain.

May 7, 2019Best Light Weight Wind Jackeet
The Houdini is an essential piece of gear. It weighs almost nothing and packs down so small it can fit just about anywhere. It functions as good or better than my highest hope for blocking the wind, adding a small but necessary layer of protection (and even a little warmth; but not overly so, at all!), and being fairly universal in it's applications. I can wear this at night around… read more town or at 11,000ft in the mountains and it always performs. I looked at and tried on several light weight wind jackets and this is absolutely the best that I found. Couldn't be happier. I carry it with me during the full year, all 4 seasons, but it really excels in temps between 50 and 80 degrees.

April 3, 2019numero uno
I wear it all the time for running, climbing, or keeping the heat a little lower at home. It protects well on a bushwhack through rhodo and thorns. Fit is a bit small. I got a large which is loose, but medium was too tight. One of my #1 pieces of outdoor clothing. Very good for variable days, little cold, little hot, and indeed very good for wind. One of two hoodies I use,… read more and the hood on this is surprisingly useful for something so light. (the picture make here makes it look thick, it is not thick, it is feather-weight)

February 9, 2019Really light, very packable
Mostly got this for a just in case layer for biking and am very happy with it. I'd probably size up since it's pretty tight zipped up.

February 2, 2019Versatile and lightweight
Great windbreaker for cold winds and moderate activity levels. Does a nice job of cutting the cold and very wet wind we get in the Ozarks while breathing adequately. If you live in a perpetually warmish climate and intend the use your windbreaker for running there are much higher CFM models out there that may work better, but this fits my day to day needs perfectly. I always wear… read more medium in Patagucci stuff but ordered large based on some reports that these ran small for layering purposes. I ended up returning the large for a medium and am much happier with the fit, and I can still put it on top of a wool base layer, an R1 hoody, and a down jacket.

I got this jacket for cold descents on the mountain bike. It works great for that! Really keeps the cold wind off of you. The best part this jacket is that it packs up so small when you aren't using it. Truly an amazing piece!

January 8, 2019Like Magic
This jacket is aptly named. The tiny size that it stuffs down into is really miraculous, and on more than one occasion pulling it out my biking buddies are shocked a fully functional windbreaker/rain barrier came out of a pack that small. It is not fully waterproof, but its an awesome emergency jacket to store in your hip pack or backpack if you get caught out in a storm. It… read more is a slim cut, so I wouldn't recommend it as an outer shell if you have a lot of other layers on.

January 7, 2019Solid Packable Wind Layer
Lightweight and packable, I hardly think twice about throwing this in my bag for a day hike or when going for a run. It blocks wind like a champ and does a decent job at shedding light precipitation. It can get a bit swampy during high output activity but this is really only an issue in warmer temperatures. Like others have said, it fits slim. I'm usually a small in Patagonia jackets… read more and the small Houdini doesn't leave much room for layering underneath, however there's rarely an instance I feel like I need more than a baselayer or lightweight fleece underneath. Additionally, there's only one pocket on the chest and that pocket does not fit the larger models of iPhone. The lack of pockets makes it a more functional layer in my opinion (less weight, less bulk) but can be a deterrent for some so be aware when purchasing.

December 4, 2018Super Light Solution
This is one of my favorite jackets. I can pack it up into my pocket and take it with me anywhere. It fits great and sheds rain pretty well for how thin it is.
