Patagonia Houdini Air Jacket - Women's reviews and deals for sale

It's the dilemma that runners have been grappling with since the dawn of time—do you go light on layers and wind up potentially cold and wet on your run, or do you give yourself the adequate protection you need for changing conditions only to end up running in a sauna of your own devices? Instead of choosing between weather-resistance and breathability, throw on the Patagonia Houdini Air Jacket for the perfect balance of each. Finding itself in between the more robust wind-resistance of the Patagonia Houdini jacket and the featherweight breathability of their Airshed pullover, this ultralight running jacket offers air-permeable performance while still giving you enough resistance to wind and rain to not feel the full force of the elements on windy peaks and drizzly mountain roads.

Just like the original Houdini, the Houdini Air is ultralight and packable, able to fit into its own chest pocket and clip onto a running pack or stuff into an oversized pocket. Its updated fabric is softer and more air-permeable, delivering enhanced next-to-skin comfort while letting in cooling airflow that regulates your temperature and eliminates the need to constantly zip and unzip your jacket when you heat up. It's still wind-resistant, and will keep you from feeling the brunt of alpine headwinds, but will now allow in enough air to keep you cool when you start to really charge up steep mountain trails. Plus, it's got a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating that works to shed light rain and ensure that you won't be soaking wet through on and off showers.

The Perfect Wind Jacket

I've tried a ton of wind jackets over my years being a Gearhead, but my favorite by far is the Houdini Air. It does a great job of blocking wind, but is also the most breathable and wicking one I've worn yet. I really like the raised fabric on the interior that keeps the jacket off your skin! I found the fit to be true to size and even a little room to layer, which is really read more nice considering I have to size up in most wind jackets. This jacket lives in my pack and goes on every adventure with me. It's so light and packs up so small, there's no reason not to take it everywhere with you.

Jacket of my dreams

I LOVE this jacket for trail running during the winter time. The little extra wind protection makes a big difference in keeping me warm. I took this out for a weekend long trail running trip with some friends in Southern Utah during November and found myself super comfortable even in the bottom of the canyons. Another plus is that the jacket doesn't make a super loud "whooshing read more sound" like I expected it might. It fits true to size.

Versatile and super packable

They really mean it when they say this jacket packs down! It's so tiny and lightweight that there's really no reason for me to not take it along on those shoulder season adventures. I've crammed it into a small hip pack several times and it barely takes up any room. It works really well for cutting wind and gives me a little extra layering warmth. I've used it for both hiking read more (up/down) and biking (down). The design is very minimalist - that small chest pocket is all you get. For me the fit is pretty typical of other Patagonia jackets I've owned and I found myself dancing somewhere between a small and medium. Preferred the medium for the longer torso and arm lengths and ability to throw over other layers.

Amazed at the quality

I love how lightweight this jacket is! So pack-able and easy to transport! I use it for runs and hikes when there's light rain or snow. The only thing is I wish it had pockets!!

Why is this triple the cost of the Houdini wind jacket at $69.99? They are very similar. Please explain what makes this jacket so much more expensive?
