Best Base Layer

I initially bought this as a gift for a friend but I tried it on and ended up buying another for myself. Its super comfortable, fits well, and provides great warmth for its weight. The hood is perfect for colder days and slim enough to fit under a helmet. Awesome piece I find myself bringing on almost every trip.

Very Versatile

This piece has a great warmth to weight ratio, and is also highly breathable making it the perfect base layer for high output activities such as backcountry touring or backpacking. The hood is slim providing protection from cold, wind, and snow, and sun.

Dependable Layering Piece

The Capilene thermal weight is a perfect layer between your base and shell while ski touring. Super breathable material sheds heat well and doesn't get soggy when you are slogging up the skin track. The hood option is great when you get up to that windy ridge. Polygiene odor control helps keep the funk at bay.

Almost Flawless

Can't complain. It's warm, comfortable, and looks great. Plus the sizing seems perfect. The only downside is that one of the thumb loops broke after wearing it for about two weeks, but that was easy to sew back up and hasn't given me a problem since.

Great piece of Clothing for Backpacking

Saw this item on other through hikers gear list and decided to add it to my own. I am so glad that I did. It replaced my long sleeve shirt and is worn over my Ice Breaker Tech T-Shirt and often under a Patagonia Houdini Wind Shirt. Love the Hoodie for quick on and off and the ability to regulate heat through the 3/4 zipper. I personally like the thumb loops to keep the sleeves read more pulled down to cover the wrist. The material is awesome, not to thick or thin and very breathable and quick drying. A valuable layer and piece to the clothing list; yet lightweight and easily packable.

Favorite new backpacking/travel addition

Recently purchased this and absolutely love it. I've been wearing it a ton backpacking, camping and traveling. It seems to be a perfect weight to wear alone for moderate temps, and works great to layer for colder nights. Wore it every evening without washing on a recent 10-day camping trip and didn't have issues with odors. Easy to rinse, clean and dry easily from anywhere. Highly read more recommended.

Best, warmest base layer I've worn

I own this in the hoody, quarter zip and crew and also the pants. It's very warm and the stretchy material is fantastic. It also breathes very well. It fits a little small for me, I normally wear XL, I'm 5'10 200 with a 46 chest and the XXL fits me perfectly.

NEW FAVORITE!

If you're like me, I always find myself over heating in the R1, so I purchased this as an alternative. I love this thing! Wicks really well, dries fast and the right weight to keep from being drenched in sweat. Use it mostly for AT skiing where the cardio is high. Layer it under a thin shell for the skin up and the hood works well under a helmet. Has little thumby things, but I read more don't typically use those on any garment.

Patagonia under layers are the best!

Bought for my husband. We're both huge fans of Patagonia under layers. This is a very functional layer on the warmer end of their options. Usual excellent quality. Highly recommended

Like Turning on a Heater

One of the best baselayers I have ever owned. Not only is the inside comfy but it is so warm. When I first put this on, I immediately noticed it trapping heat and warming me up, but it also breathes enough that I can leave it on and not suffocate in a sauna. I typically wear mediums and this was no exception. It fit great. It has a slim snug fit but with out being to form-fitting read more or revealing. I can easily throw it on and just wear it as warm top in my everyday life or I can use it as a toasty layer to keep me warm on the ski hill. It is so versatile. In particular, I love the hoop which fits perfectly under my bike and ski helmet to keep me warm without being too bulky. My only complaint is that getting the zipper to fully zip can be a little bit of a hassle.

Patagonia Thermal Weight Hooded Zip-Neck

I ordered the Patagonia Thermal Weight Hooded Zip-Neck Top last minute for a 5 day backpacking trip on the AT in late October through the Grayson Highlands area. Backcounty was very helpful in making sure I received it in time. I have always had a great experience with their customer service. Now for the review! I was watching Red Beard'€™s video on the AT and he highly recommended read more this piece so I bought in and I was not disappointed. I did not want to take it off. It worked well through a range of temperatures 40-60's. Great around camp and on the trail. Even when It was warmer the ¼ zip allowed some ventilation and the quick drying material wicked away the moisture. The hood was awesome. I was constantly putting my hood off and on while hiking over the balds in and out of the shade. Instant warmth and protection quickly. The piece worked very well under my down hooded jacket. Double hoods in the cold for the win! I bought the black version which did not show dirt but in the intense sun warmed up quickly but not too much. I will be buying a second one in a different color because it is such a versatile piece. Sizing. It is designed to be a tight fit. I am 5'€™10" 170lbs and typically am between a medium and large. I ordered the medium and it fit perfect. I wore a close fitting undershirt and it was a perfect combo. The hood design has a high collar and can be worn without the hood up. When up it cradled my face well and left my mouth area open. This would be a great piece for skiing and many other outdoor adventures. The waffle like weave worked well for wicking and comfort. The fabric felt nice and it showed no wear for the 5 days of rugged use. I hope this review is useful to for my fellow adventures. I'€™ll meet you on the trail!

Versatile

This is a great layer because you can go from fully unzipped and cool to zipped with hoodie and very warm. It is perfect for spring and fall climbing days when it is chilly when you start in the morning but warm by the time you finish. I just took this on a month climbing trip in Yosemite and it was perfect. My favorite combo is this and the Houdini because together they fit a very read more large temperature range! The elastic bands for the thumbs are great because they keep the layer right where it should be under other layers.

Lightweight and warm

I wear this pretty regularly when disc golfing in the winter in the mountain of North Carolina. On windy days, the hood does a surprisingly good job considering how thin the material is.

Great mid-layer

I tend to run cold in general, so I love this layer. This is a great piece to wear over a tech-t for just about everything active in the winter. It is slightly on the heavier side though, so maybe take a look at the Patagonia mid weight line if you want something a little lighter.

Dynamic Thermal

This is such a great layer. Perfect for running, touring, or any vigorous activity in cold temperatures. The Polartec fleece combined with the 'ninja' style hood keeps your body and face warm in cold temps. I've been using this hoodie over an athletic shirt in 20-30 degree temps and been just fine. What is then surprising is how cool this thing keeps your body when you start breaking read more a sweat. It's very breathable and you can zip halfway down to air out even more. The fit is very snug to your body, not baggy at all. I typically wear a size medium but went with a large here, just a little looser to where the fit is snug but not skin-tight.
