Good Baselayer

Another great baselayer to add to your rotation. My only complaint is the arms are a little short on me, but maybe that's just me!

Nice layer! Perfect for me.

I gave this as a gift and she had this to sat: This is a nice layer. I like to use this more as a top than a true base layer. The zipper is small and does not get in the way and it zips far enough to provide good ventilation. The square type weave seems to give good worth and the garment is light in weight. I just LOVE the color, I got the retro stripe/dark currant.

Must have base layer

I've been wearing Patagonia base layers and various clothing pieces for years and continue to be completely satisfied with their products. Comfortable material that wicks moisture and keeps your warm. 3/4 zipper allows you to ventilate when you do get a little too toasty. Thumb loops keep sleeves in place if needed, good length in the body as well. Staple layering piece for read more everyone in our family.

Basics

The pullover base layer is nice, great feel, not itchy or irritating. Feels good on the skin.

Garmet has an odd, unpleasant odor

Patagonia capilene midweight base layers have been my go-to item for warmth for many years. I've loved them all. Fresh out of the box, this one has an odd odor (faintly, that of a dead animal). I'm returning it, as I have no idea if the odor would come out with washing.

Great under layer!

Patagonia makes quality products and capilene is a wonderfully soft and high performance material. Throw this layer under almost anything and you will feel the extra warmth on chilly days. This is NOT the warmest option, but a great extra layer if you are active or not.

Capilene Midweight Zip-Neck Top

I purchased this top to wear while skiing because I am usually cold, but find that my Nano Puff makes me to hot. I needed a happy medium layer. This top is perfect for that! Fits comfortably under my jacket and over a light shirt. Definitely going to be my go-to layer for these warmer ski days. You can't go wrong with anything Patagonia.

Everything and Always!

This half zip base layer is the one you want to get! You can layer it super easy or throw it on for a fall run. It is so comfortable and isn't itchy which is always a plus. I have it in both a small and a medium for different activities. I am right in between sizes. If you have any questions about sizing feel free to reach out and I can help you pick the perfect size to go with. read more The Capilene bottoms complete the pair, they are a must have as well.

Really so versatile!

This is the perfect midweight baselayer that can be worn most months out of the year. Perfect for layering under a puffy jacket to keep your temperature regular on cold days. Could also go by itself or with a vest on warmer days. Great next-to-skin piece for outdoor pursuits. I ordered the small which fits well, especially if I am wearing it on it's own. Probably good have gone read more with the XS as well if I was looking for a snugger fit. Such a versatile piece that i will be snagging others.

Solid Base Layer

Soft and warm grid pattern lining. Does keep you warm, so the zipper is a plus for this base layer, adds a little flow of air with warmer weather.

Another Solid Piece from Patagoina

I bought a pair of Capilene leggings, and loved the material and how warm they were. So naturally I needed a top to match. I like the weight and how breathable this top is. Its a great layering piece, and will keep you warm on most days. This top is a bit boxy, and I do wish it was a bit more form fitting in order to hold my body heat in more efficiently. The sizing is correct so read more I do not recommend sizing down, just add an extra layer underneath on some of the colder days on the mountain.

Nice shirt, fit is a bit large

Quality-wise, perfect. Lightweight. Zips function well. The fit is a bit large for 'slim fit'. The length is a little long. Lots of extra fabric around the gut area, though not so bad that I want to return. It sure will make it easier to layer underneath.

Go-to cold weather layering piece

This is my friend's go-to cold weather gear for longer than she can remember and never lets her down! This model is very comfortable. Material feels nice against her skin. Design allows for full range of motion without riding up, or bunching up at all. The midweight works for her on all but the coldest days on the mountain. Love the Underwater blue color. A classic that will always read more perform!

Impressive Top

This is a great piece for layering or stand alone. I was a little skeptical of the new elastic thumb strap, and have since decided it is awesome. It is perfect to keep the arms in place and easily goes unnoticed while wearing. I have primarily been wearing this as a base layer for skiing paired with other layers on cold days. It is becoming my favorite top for ski touring as a stand read more a lone piece on the uphill. It fits well in M. The zip neck is nice and deep so dumping excess heat is a breeze!

All Time

This is my go to base layer, capilene is the way to go for a warm breathable base layer. I have been wearing variations of capilene since i was a kid and dont intend on changing it up. I am 5'3 125 and I wear a medium in this top. Great for skiing, camping, hiking, touring, etc.

So far, so great.

SIZE REFERENCE: Height: 5' 4.75" with +1 ape index (arms are 1 inch longer than my height) Current weight: 103 lb. Bra: 34AA Waist: 26 in. *check back soon for pics!* FIT PROS: This piece fits me pretty well throughout the torso and the neck. It's not overly tight on my neck--it fits just right (and I'm really picky about that kind of thing). I could have probably gone with an read more XXS, but I like having the option of wearing another layer underneath if it's a long-sleeved piece. It fits pretty comfortably for me--not too tight, not too baggy. Being a slim fit piece, it should fit a bit closer to the body to maximize its performance AS a baselayer. It is almost true to size to Patagonia's slim fit--I'd say it has a CINCH less of a tailored effect on my body (i.e., it runs just a tad more toward their regular fit) compared to their other slim-fit pieces. It also has good coverage in terms of length, coming in right at about wrist length--so, great for tucking into baselayer bottoms, ski pants, or whatnot. FIT CONS: I found that for some reason, Patagonia's thermal weight capilene fits my arms a little bit better in terms of length (perhaps it's the amount of stretch). When using the thumb straps, this piece (the midweight) is slightly more constricting on my thumbs, but it's not something that's uncomfortable enough to make me not want to wear it. I'd say if I knew I was going to be wearing a baselayer all day skiing, I might go with the thermal for optimal comfort. PERFORMANCE PROS: (Note: I haven't gotten much use out of this piece yet since it's just now transitioning into cooler weather, so check back for updates!) As far as I have been able to tell, the breathability is good in this piece, and since it's treated with Polygiene I didn't notice much of a stink to it after the few times of wearing it, but I did throw it in the washer to test its performance and to see how well it dries. It does really well in a cold wash and a line-dry. I always line-dry my technical pieces just to be safe, and it does dry very, very quickly. The quarter-zip feature has also treated me very well, and I never have problems with any of Patagonia's zippers. The internal fleece lining on the zipper is a nice, soft touch, too. PERFORMANCE CONS: Compared to the thermal weight, I've noticed that this garment has slightly less next-to-skin comfort. The thermal weight's interior is very soft, and I prefer it to the midweight. For this reason I would give it a 4.5 if I could. But the midweight does have a place in the closet, and I will get a ton of use out of it this winter! BOTTOM LINE: If you're all about comfort, and you're preparing for a harsh winter, I think the thermal weight edges out the midweight. However, the midweight is definitely a fantastic piece, especially for the days that you know you're going to be really active and it hasn't quite reached bone-chilling temperatures outside. I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up over time. Updates for its use in colder weather are to come! To be continued...
