Simply Unbeatable

Patagonia’s Capilene line is undeniably the best base layer in the game, Thermal, Mid and Air series. These mid weight are my favorite, including the bottom piece. I use it as part of a layering system. I stay cool and dry when I’m out being active but warm when I’m static. I rotate between three sets for the better part of fall and all of winter while adding or shedding read more layers when needed. These are nicely priced as well. I have had mine for two seasons and they still smell great. I used Nike’s dri-fit before and after one year, it smelled awful.

Lightweight mid weight

The Patagonia mid weight capilene is more like a light-weight piece. That said other midweight baselayers are thicker and heavier. Where as this midweight performs like a midweight @7.5 oz. Perfect as a single baselayer for those who run hot when they ski.

Bought as a gift and he said...

Warm but not too warm, fits well and moves moisture really well. All in, exactly what you would want for a technical base layer.

Great Baselayer

This is a terrific and less expensive option for a baselayer than merino. The fit worked well for me in a size small and the texture on the inside adds to the warmth. A great option!

Patagonia Capilene

Just an awesome piece of clothing. Love it under a cotton shirt in the winter.

Nice Base

This top is a great underlayer for many activities. For a mid weighht it is super light and versatile due to the waffle pattern. That makes it quick drying, packable and just warm enough. Super breathable. Thumb loops are minimalist and make layering easy. The cut is short in the torso.

Husbands new favorite piece

My husband wears this everyday now that he has it. It is a base layer, but it is pretty good looking as a black pullover, and it is super warm.

Cold dads favorite piece

I got this as a gift for my dad who lives in Bend OR and is currently living through the craziest snow winter ever. He wears this thing all the time, on walks and hikes or under a sweater to work and it always keeps him warm! He especially likes how lightweight and breathable the shirt is which makes layering a breeze. I got him an XL and it fits perfectly. He is 6'2" about 210lbs. read more

Good fit, added warmth, hooked sleeve

I wore this as a mid layer while boarding and it helped keep me warm in 20°F weather. I'm 5'10" 150lb. The Med fit great. I mostly like the thumb hooks inside the sleeve that keep the sleeves fully covering your arms. This makes layering up a breeze and keeps the sleeves where you want while sliding your arms through additional sleeve layers. I plan on wearing this as a plain'ol read more shirt because it looks great. I recommend this product.

Best base layer I have ever had

This piece is excellent. Very comfortable, warm enough for activities in cold weather and cool enough for sunny weather.

Warm and Comfy

This is an awesome thermal. Its really lightweight, the material is comfy and feels good on your skin. Can get a little bit smelly so you have to wash it regularly but the material is durable so its no problem.

High Quality

This has been a super nice piece to have for anything from running to ski touring. It is on the lighter side, but that doesn't make it any less warm. Breathes pretty well, so you won't get sweaty, also. It eve has those helpful thumbhole cuffs so they can help keep your hands warm, and make it easier to layer, without your sleeves bunching up. Worth the money and definitely a go-to read more piece of mine.

I wouldn't call it Midweight

Not really warm enough for a midweight. I have midweight from other companies to compare. This is more a lightweight. I'll keep it for running. The sleeves are too short to use the thumbloops, I'd like another 5" but most people would probably want 3" more. Don't love it for winter.

First Impressions

Just delivered in the mail today, tried it on and feels great. It's a little thinner then my other capilene baselayer (probably 6 years old) but it feels soft and lightweight. The inside has a waffle pattern to it to wick away moisture. The fit is perfect! It's not to form fitting but loose enough to wear a thin base layer underneath, plan on wearing my CW-X performance layer read more underneath for ski trip later this month. I did noticed the stitching on the arms is somewhat noticeable when not wearing anything underneath, but not enough to warrant anything less then 5 stars. Ordered the Lemongrass color and it has a great look to it, not too bright either! The length of the sleeves is perfect for me, down to the base of my wrists. The thumb loopholes are a nice feature to keep the sleeves down in cold weather. Overall very happy with my purchase! Rock on Patagonia!!

long time Capilene user

I have been wearing Capilene 3 pieces forever. This is my first new piece. The Midweight is the new 3, but it is all new.. I like the grid inside.. Can't say if it is warmer, but more comfortable then ever.

damn good

This has been my go to piece for splitboarding and ice climbing this season. I hated Capilene for years because it smelled horrible after about 30minutes of wearing it. However for this season patagonia updated the entire line and capilene material, and it is fantastic. I just came out of a four day hut trip in British Columbia where it was around freezing and snowing everyday, read more everything was soaked by the end of the day. Even after four hard days of sweating my ass off breaking trail, dropping pillows, and chopping firewood this shirt was fantastic. It dried super quick, kept me warm, and the smell was tolerable after days of use. If you are thinking about giving capilene another try, or looking to get your first piece; do it. I have the peppergrass color and it looks pretty good with my ginger beard. The color is insanely bright. SAR won't have any issues finding you if shit hits the fan. The thumb loops rule, super minimal and help keep the shirt tucked into gloves and under other layers. the mid-weight features a great waffle print fabric that is the perfect weight for most mild winter conditions. If it is super cold go with the thermal weight. fit is more relaxed than previous years and is reasonable to wear into the store to pick up a few beers and cans of dinty moore beef stew after a long day of touring.

Perfect Layer

I love this layer. I wear this over a tech-t 90% of the time for skiing. Fits great, soft feel to it, and very comfortable. Runs true to size, and hasn't shrunk or anything after washing.

Versatile, comfortable.

I have several of these and absolutely love them. The first one I bought is several years old and looks just as good as the one my wife just bought me. Great base-layer but yet looks good enough to wear to work. I like wearing the crew neck version underneath for further layering. I'm 5'9", weigh 155 and a small fits great. A little form fitting to accomplish the goal of being a read more base layer but not so tight that it looks like I'm seeking attention. Haha!
