Ready for a Second One

I've only used it for a week or so for some alpine adventuring, but it's my new favorite shirt. Feels like wearing nothing, which is great in the sun. The hood is fantastic - paired with a ball cap, shades your entire face. I was skeptical about the ponytail hole but it's really very wonderful. Doesn't ride up with hip belts. It does snag, so probably won't wear it climbing. The read more mitts on the end of the sleeve fit a bit weird (long fingers?), but were welcome in the cold. Hard to use poles or scramble with the mitts on (obviously), and with them off the sleeves fit normally instead of covering the back of your hand. So I'd prefer thumb holes, but not a deal breaker. So far, no lasting staining or smell, but I expect it to happen eventually - so I love the dark colors available.

Lightweight and Versatile

This has to be one of my favorite pieces of gear! I toss it in my duffel for biking trips, river trips, hikes and early morning/chilly trail runs. I can wear this for sun protection , love the fold-over mittens for chilly fingers and the pony tail hole is a bonus feature. The best part is how lightweight this top is! Highly Recommend!!

loved it so much I bought for my family

I was looking for a long sleeve shirt that would keep me cool and block the sun, this shirt is it. I've worn other shirts that are spf and claim to keep you cool but this was by far the best. I loved it so much after one use I ordered three more for my family. It feels great on your skin, wicks sweat, is loose but still fitted. I really couldn't believe how cool it kept me when read more I was skiing uphill in the sun. My only complaint is the sleeves are too short for me to comfortably keep the hand covers on, it pulls the sleeves tight. I'm 5'8, 134, 34B and bought an XS.

Won't Leave Home Without It!

This sun hoodie is easily my favorite and most used pieces of gear. I have loved using this piece hiking, rafting, climbing, backpacking, and running. I bring it on almost every outdoor adventure, it is truly that versatile! It's great because it offers 15 UPF protection, comfort, and style. I particularly love using it on rafting trips, as it offers a nice layer of protection when read more you're spending the whole day exposed to the sun. Its awesome to own a hoodie that you can trust to bring on any adventure. Most recently, I brought this on a trip to Bryce Canyon National Park, land of the Hoodoo's! This piece was perfect for a sunny fall day in the desert. I wore only this during our hike and it was perfect, it kept me protected from the sun while still letting the cool fall breeze cool me down. The material is soft and light, it's a dream to wear! I also love the high collar which acts as a buff and the large, helmet compatible hood. I am 5'2 and the small fits me great, it leaves a little room for a tank top underneath if I wanted to layer. I have friends who swear by this hoodie, and I feel the same way. If you don't have a sun hoodie, you'll fall in love with this one!

Great for purpose, but not durable

Not sure why this isn't showing in the men's section, but oh well. I own some other gear from Outdoor Research and as a whole the fit is great, as is the material, but the stitching is terrible. I've taken this shirt out hiking a few times (including a trip up Mt Washington and back) and after 2 washes the stitching just continues to fall apart. I've had some similar problems with read more the Wadi Rum pants that I've had to sew to keep them from continuing to unfurl. The fit on this is great, the style is great (as are the wadi rum pants) but the quality of the build isn't so great. Not sure if I got a bad batch or what but for $65 I kinda expected more than a couple of hikes and 2 washes for stitching to be this bad. I included a picture below of the stitching, kind of a bummer as I really like the shirt.

Great for sun, would love longer sleeves

I love how light this shirt is - it dries in no time and is fairly cool (although I find that my Marmot sun hoodie, though heavier, seems to breathe better) - the ponytail hole in the back seemed like kind of a dorky idea but I actually LOVE it. I have super long hair and it's sooo nice not to have a sweaty ponytail sticking to your back under your shirt! Washes well, dries in read more like 5 minutes and has worn well despite feeling a little fragile. I usually buy OR stuff because of a. great quality, and b. long sleeves! I'm 5'9" with crazy long arms and the sleeves on this one come just to my wrist bones - I'd love a couple extra inches and some thumbholes because my hands get pretty scorched doing glacier travel.

Awesome, but needs thumbholes.

I got this shirt for mountaineering and climbing, hearing great reviews about its ability to stay cool in hot sun and keep you from getting sunburnt. I have taken it on two outings: one glacier travel with bright sun all day, and one Alpine rock climbing. The shirt held up very well, and did not smell awful after wearing two days straight. Nice fit, love the hood and high neck for read more sun protection. I don't understand the hand cuffs and wish there were thumbholes, but that is about my only concern. It lived up to all of the hype I had heard and I would definitely buy another one.

Keep That Sun Away!

I bought this shirt when I worked as a field guide in the Arizona desert and it was perfect! It's incredibly lightweight- you'll forget you're even wearing it. It's great at keeping the sun off of your skin (especially in the middle of the desert with no shade around) and it also helps keep your arms from getting torn up if you are hiking around in a really brushy area. Cat Claw read more stood no chance against me when I was wearing this shirt! The fabric definitely snagged, but it never tore! Throw the hood up if you need more protection against your neck. All in all, great construction, feel, and performance.

Vast improvement over old Echo Hoody

I bought this for my wife, and she also has the previous version of the echo hoody that has more of a v-neck than this cowl-design. She really prefers the new design so that she can protect her neck and not have a weird tan-line. The solid colors are also nice, and can even be worn to work or around town. It can be frustrating how OR changes their designs or the products they carry read more so frequently but this was a change for the better.

No more sunburn!

I love this sun hoody! I have worn it on numerous backpacking trips and mtn bike rides and just took it on a multiday river trip- on my SUP! I fell in a lot with my pup jumping off the board every hour, but the echo fabric dried quickly and provided a nice light, cool layer when wet. It was awesome not having to worry about reapplying sunscreen every time I fell in! I bought this read more in a large because I have very long arms and wanted a looser fit as a hoody, but I also fit a medium

BEST sun hoody

In the summer on the river I live in this hoody. Day in and day out this little baby gets a work out. PROS: Lightweight breathable pony tail hole Cons: -Foldover mitts make arms feel like a T Rex, especially if you are a taller lady. -side pocket barely fits a tube of sunscreen? It is quite odd. Bottom line: look no further for all around sun protection on the mountain or down read more a river!

lightweight but good

This is very lightweight, but will be great when summer arrives here in NZ. It fits well and is a flattering cut.

Nice lightweight hoody

This is a great lightweight hoody - very good for warmer days hiking or being outside when you want full length sleeves. I do also wish it featured thumbholes. The material is super soft and the design is nice because the neck is different than most shirts giving it a nice style to it. The pocket is small but functional for a key or chapstick or old-school flip phone. read more I thought the sizing was true to size given that it was labeled "trim fit"

Awesome hoodie!

I am in love with this style and the lightweight fabric. The pocket and the fold over mittens are such a neat features. The red color is great. Since it dries quickly, the hoodie is great for activities on land or in sea. Great for just hanging out, too. Another cool thing us if you need to wash it, it will be dry and ready to wear the next day.

Super Lightweight!

The Echo is the kind of long sleeve you can easily sling around your waist while trail running, completely forget it is there, and then get to the breezy, cool peak you were running to and happily look down and remember you have a warm layer. It is so light and perfect for throwing in a pack or around your waist for biking, hiking, or running. Plus, it has one of my favorite OR read more women's features, which is these little hand warmers that extend out and around your hands from the cuffs. It's a really cool feature that I use all the time.
