Great Quality

Great Quality Product! I wear a size 13 boot and the XL fits great. Perfect performance over 3 years of winter use in the CO mountains.

Sizing guide is off

Ordered the XL since I wear 11.5 boots. Even with large pants and heavy winter boots, the smallest adjustment is still too big.

Quality

Keep the snow out of boots, waterproof for walking through high grass. A bit tight trying to get them over mountaineering double boots, fine with singles or hiking boots, won't fit over snowboard boots. Some holes from crampons easily repaired with Tenacious Tape.

Good to have!

These gators are very sturdy. They have a thick rubber foot strap. The cinch at the top is well made. The seems are sturdily double stitched.

Great Addition To Your Packing List

I used these on a winter camping trip in Idaho and I was so glad I had them. They are perfect for keeping your ankles dry from any snow (or melted puddles) you are going through. I love how easy they are to get on and off from the velcro closures and the strap that goes under your boot is great because you can easily adjust it perfect to where you need it to be if you are switching read more from cross country ski boots to different winter boots multiple times a day. They weren't totally waterproof but they did do a great job at keeping most of the snow and moisture out which is exactly what I needed them to do!

Great for some shoeing

Great gators. Easy to put on and will keep the snow out for a day of snow shoeing. Straps in all the right places to keep these puppies up on your legs as you trudge through the snow. What Can I say. Simple well designed gear hear. Does its job with no extra hassle and will live in your gear room for years to come.

The Best Gaiters

I got my first pair of OR Gaiters in the Mid-90s and they lasted over 20 years. I finally had to get rid of them when I had worn through one of the straps. I don't even know how many miles I walked/skied/climbed in them. It seems like some improvements have been made to the newer models: stronger velcro, extra velcro closures, stronger straps and buckles, and a slightly better read more fit (meaning you can wear them more comfortably over a variety of footwear). If you need gaiters, you will never regret purchasing these.

SUPER RUGGED.

Fits well over my Scarpa Rebels. Wore these up rainier, baker, hood, and a few other summits. The goretex really holds up, was skeptical of the gaiter size I was recommended to buy (Large) but fits well with my size 9 foot.

nice size

Although I have not made it to the snow yet, I wanted to say these gaiters are a good size. XXL is approximately 20-21 inches at the top in diameter. Fits around my big calf with overalls on. Will use for hunting. Will get back to here if there problems. I usually laugh that someone rates something without using, but found these last minute. Ordered Saturday and were delivered read more Wednesday in time for my trip. Thank you for being true to size as last year xl from competitor were extremely small and finding out in the woods was a bad fubar. Yes I am a lot backwards these days....

Should I or shouldn't I

Looking for new gaiters for my girlfriend. We've both had OR Crocodile gaiters. Hers have a slice in them now. My reluctance comes for these reasons: I find it strange that the hook goes on the lace after the velcro closure is closed. My other gaiters hook before closing the velcro. It's more awkward hooking the closed gaiter. Maybe there's a reason that was designed that read more way. I'd like to know what that is. Also the little velcro flap that gives security to the main velcro closure is worthless since it separated from the backing material and is pretty much permanently connected to the main velcro while the backing material just floats on the outside (I suppose I could cut it off). I believe that OR was founded when somebody thought the world needed a better gaiter. I have not found the OR gaiters to be that great. They have replaced my scree gaiters numerous times but I finally felt bad about asking again and again and finally bought another brand which I like very much. Now that the girlfriend needs new gaiters I'm looking at these and wondering if I should get them. They are up there with the most expensive so it makes me think they should be the best. But my experience says keep shopping.

Great hunting gaiters

Found these to run true to my shoe size. These have been very useful for the mixed conditions that can come with hunting in Montana. They are durable and keep my pants dry. Can withstand the wettest conditions. Easy to put on and go. No reason to have wet pants or boots with a product like this available!

Buying the right size

These are the best out there in my book. Lucky I got the right size XXL size 13 snow boot. Make sure to ask them what size you need for the right boot

A super version of the Rocky Mountains

Only main difference i could easily spot between these and the expeditions was the upper closure system, but for the price difference I can skip the Velcro (I looked at adding some, but is hard to fit through the loop). Basically are amped up OR Rocky Mountains. XXL pairs well with Baruntse 47.5/13.5, but tightens only to the 4th hole, don't think they make bigger anyways. Sturdy read more construction, no worrying about the strap tearing out like on older style.

"OK", or "Pretty good", but not great

I bought these for Search and Rescue, and I tried them with a variety of boots - Irish Setters (from the late 90's), Danner Hood Winter Lights, and Danner Acadias. The metal tab that is supposed to capture the bottom lace doesn't do its job. The material has a bias towards pulling up, away from the toe/lace, and the gaiter will slip down my leg just a bit (1"?) - that's just read more enough for the tab to come off the lace. I considered crimping the tab over a little more to more tightly capture the lace, but why? Beyond that, at least in dry conditions, they do keep 95% of the dirt, stickers, poison oak, and crud off your boots/lower leg. I bought the size indicated by my boot size, but I'm not sure a smaller size would work any better.

Durable

I beat these up pretty well with crampons on a recent trip up Rainier, they held up great. I didn't bring a pad to sit in the snow with so I took my gaiters off and sat on them to keep my backside dry, they worked well for that too!

I love OR gaiters, but how does this set compare to what OR currently sells? Is it an older model? For example, is the instep strap “triple-bartacked BioThane® webbing” and is there an “additional tab holds down the front opening” of these? Thanks so much!

Hi, I am a female and wear typically a women's 7.5. If I am ordering a pair of men's gaiters would I want the small or would I still fall under the size medium. I would primarily wear these over a pair of mountaineering boots, and do have thicker calves from all of my outdoor activities! Thanks!

What's the difference between the Expedition Crocodile and the Crocodile? I'm looking for some gators for a mountaineering expedition, but I'd rather not spend $20+ extra if I don't have to.

I wear a size 10.5 shoe, but I have 18" calves. Which size should I get? If these won't work, are there others out there I should check out? I'm climbing Kilimanjaro in June, and I'm needing to get a pair ordered for summit day.

I am just getting ready for my first snowshoeing experience. I live in Utah (snow is a drier variety), my question is which gaiter is the best for snowshoeing. I am trying to decide between the OR Crocodile or the OR Expedition Crocodile. What do you recommend?

Regarding size - I wear a 13 which puts me in the XL/XXL category. I'm concerned that while my shoe size is large I do not have very stout legs and don't want the upper portion to leave much room around my calf. Should I size down? Thanks in advance!

I see that your "crocodile" style mens gaiters are on sale for about $55. I am a member of a group (Santa Fe Search and Rescue) that has "pro purchase" privileges. Is it the case that the 50% pro purchase discount would apply to the sale price, thus reducing the price during the sale to about $27.50? Thanks for your assistance.
