A+

I can't be more satisfied with the quality and features of the Farpoint 40L. Every online review was on point, this is the best backpack you can get. Balancing the load on the backpack is as easy as 1-2-3 with the different straps provided, and it looks pretty in red, which is a great plus for me.

Perfect for nearly everything!

Tons of room for gear, electronics, clothes, etc for a two week trip, including a computer and peripherals. The only complaint I have is that the laptop sleeve is on the front pocket - this wouldn't be a big deal with smaller, lighter computers, but with my oversize 15" beast of a laptop, it barely fit in there and made completely unzipping the main pocket a bit of a hassle, as read more you have to flip the entire laptop over in that outside pocket. I believe Osprey has been transitioning some of their other bags with laptop sleeves to right next to the back, so hopefully this model will follow suit. Regardless, a small price to pay for an outstanding pack! Oh, and every airline accepted it as carry-on without issue. Another amazing feature.

The backpack of the world traveler

This backpack has become a close friend to me! I have traveled all over the world with it, and it has never let me down. It is the perfect size for air travel and have never been told that I needed to check it, even if it is technically a little too big for some of the airlines in Asia. I have travelled with just a few things in it, and have travelled with it loaded down with clothes, read more camera equipment, souvenirs, and more. It handles both loads great, and is super adjustable to whatever size load you are carrying. The hip belt and shoulder straps are super comfy for a long walk through the airport or for a multi day trek through the jungle of Vietnam. The straps also zip up under a cover, making it more of a duffel than a backpack, which is perfect for planes, trains, and busses where you dont want your straps getting caught, or hitting people in the face as you walk down the aisle. The orginazation inside the bag is great as well, with straps inside the bag to hold your belongings in place. Overall, the Farpoint (and the fairview, the womens version of the bag) is an amazing travel bag, ready for any adventure, anywhere.

Dad Bag

My dad was like, "I want a travel backpack for my birthday." I was like, "what do you mean, what kind of things do you want it to do?" He was like, "You work at Backcountry, you figure it out." I was like, "that's not fair." He responded with a classic dad thing. So I searched the Backcountry travel backpack selection and landed on the Farpoint 40L Backpack, and I'm glad I did. read more My dad loves this pack, he takes it on all of his business trips and raves about how he can store both clothes AND his laptop/note pad. He talks about how he can wear it on his shoulder "like a businessman" OR on his back when he's tired of showing off. He LOVES features, and this pack has all the features. My dad likes this pack so much he annoyingly wears it around the house at family dinner to show it off. It's hard to get a girlfriend with my dad around...

great all around carry on size pack

this is a great all around carry on size pack that performs like a hiking backpack. i put it through the test the first time on a trip to Bangkok. having landed exiting entry just shy of 4AM and my hotel check in at 2PM i found i would have the pack on for the day. now on this trip of two weeks, all i brought with me was this carry on pack, no suitcase or anything else, so i had read more about 14kg in the pack, including a laptop. on i proceeded, train to Hua Lamphong to start. Along comes 2PM and i stop at a cafe for an espresso, i check my phone pedometer/ GPS and it indicates that i had walked over 18 miles with pack, visiting sites along the way in full pack with no issues about the size of it. finally at the hotel... and then out again... the main strength of this pack is that in backpack mode, it has a belt and padded straps with a frame, giving it the comfort of a full pack. the only thing i could comment on in the form of improvement would be to add places where one can clip things on, and perhaps make it a little more urban in style, since it is intended for flying into cities. some notes: size, it is fine for all international carriers so far. with a length and 2 width compression straps, it can be made to be 19 x 13 x 8.5. (it will fit in an airline check bin of that size) now here is what you really have to keep track of, at 40L, it can get heavy and the weight limit generally about 15 to 30 pounds for carry on depending on carrier. with a laptop, camera, and the just the pack, you are at 10 pounds already, so it is best to not overfill it and keep it to only what you really need, as it is not the size, but the weigh you have to keep in mind of, and KLM and china airways, will weigh your carry on. for others, so far i have found that as long as you keep the pack looking not overloaded, they will not ask - keep the width straps at default min. with this in mind, if you plan on carrying a laptop and other heavy objects, you may want to go with the smaller size one as i found that with the med/large one i have, i cannot fill it at default minimum because it will get too heavy for requirements or to use with the duffel strap.

Perfect for Traveling!

This pack was the best purchase I've made for traveling. I used it as my carry-on and it fit into even the tiniest of overhead bins on commuter planes. I love that I'm able to stow away the straps, which made it a breeze to quickly slide into an overhead bin, or if I ended up needing to check it. The shoulder strap made for easy transport if I had my back straps stowed. The hidden read more zippers also made me feel confident that my belongings were safe from prying hands.

Traveled around the world with this bag

Holds up! Worked every time as an international and domestic carry on. For some budget airlines I could not have the bag completely full and converted it to a duffle to make it seem smaller.

Good Carry On

Nice backpack. Zipper runs along side which makes packing and finding your clothes a lot easier. Multiple compartments. Straps can be adjusted for comfortable wear. Small enough for plane carry on big enough to be the only bag you need.

Best Travel Pack for a New "Minimalist"

I LOVE this pack. I researched luggage and packs ad nauseum prior to a week+ trip to the UK in Feb which included several plane trips, trains, buses, lots of walking, etc. I've never been a super minimalist traveler but I wanted to give NOT over-packing a shot. I will never go back to checking a stuffed bag and having to haul it all over creation! I used travel cubes and was read more able to fit a pair of hiking shoes (wore boots), 6 pairs of socks and undies, 4 bras, a pair of cords (wore another pair), three pairs of tights, a dress, two sweaters, two baselayers, two running shirts, two vests, rain jacket, rain fly for pack, 2 buffs, scarf, hat, and toiletries. I also carried a Patagonia travel courier bag (which packs into itself) for a daypack. I had room for a few purchases, including a tweed jacket, a t-shirt, and a stuffed animal. Using the compression straps, I still had a bit more room. I took a travel clothesline and a couple packets of Woolite for laundry, which wasn't really necessary but nice to have a few clean clothes. The bag was a cinch to pack and carry. I left the shoulder strap behind, because the padded handles are comfortable enough for quick carries (actually ran through the airport this way!), and used the super-comfortable backpack straps the majority of the time. My friend with a rolling suitcase was very jealous that I was able to skip up and down the hills of Edinburgh with my pack on no problem! It also fit easily into the overhead bin on the airplane- no waiting for (or potentially losing) luggage! If you are considering becoming a semi-minimalist traveler, you CAN do it with this awesome pack! Take it from a new convert- I hope to never use a suitcase again!
