Warm, Durable, & Practical Resort Option

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I’ve been wearing the Ortovox Swisswool Andermatt 2L Jacket for just over a month now, and it’s become my go to resort jacket. I’m 5’9” 180lbs, and the medium fits absolutely perfect. Like the above posts, this thing is warm. I typically layer my clothes depending on the read more conditions, wearing a base layer, mid-layer, and a lightweight shell, but it’s been so nice wearing this jacket with nothing but a light weight wool tee and just lapping the resort… If you ski cold conditions, this jacket is absolutely perfect. I also think the length helps out in this regard. It’s a little longer than other brands I’ve worn, but not excessive. It keeps the snow out and the warmth in and has a really solid impenetrable feel to it. If you get too warm, open up the vents and keep going. The Andermatt’s pockets are also amazing. I prefer to load up at the car once and not come back until I’m finished, and this jacket allows me to carry literally everything I need… My phone, charger, extra goggle lens, snacks, beverage, keys, headphones, voile strap, and more, all fit and don’t awkwardly shift or weigh me down. I like skiing without a pack at the resort, and the Andermatt I Other positives: it does what it’s supposed to – it’s waterproof, offers a really nice range of motion, and it keeps you comfortable. That being said, I think the Andermatt is far too warm for skinning or hiking in anything but the coldest weather. The jacket also isn’t as packable as some of the other shells you see out there, which makes sense considering the insulation, but if this is your only shell you’ll need to take that into consideration. Also, kudos to Ortovox for the understated colors. I’m not a huge fan of flashy outerwear, and this jacket balances having a unique look and but still flying under the radar. It’s not inexpensive, but if you ski cold conditions or get cold easily, this jacket would be a great option, and it won’t go out of style any time soon…

great quality but decided otherwise

I ordered this for a ski jacket for colder days or when I don't feel like bulking up with layers during the warmer ones while on the mountain. The coat felt super high quality but felt like it was a bit bulky and wasn't a fan of the blues when I saw it in person (I ordered a large Night Blue). I think for the right build this jacket would be perfect but for me it wasn't quite right. read more I am 6'2" at 205lbs and have narrow shoulders. The jacket just kind of hung off of me so decided to get something with a trimmer fit. I have no doubt that this jacket would stand up well on the slopes on cold days and last a while for the right person.

Top Quality Jacket

Immediately I felt the quality of the Ortovox as I slipped the jacket on. Exterior made with Dermizax NV and interior lining over a thin application of Swiss Wool makes this jacket ideal for most winter conditions. Limited insulation keeps the jacket light, and, while not fitted like most Ortovox apparel, I fit into the M perfectly (5'10" x 175lbs). It's loose fit allows a mid layer read more underneath without feeling bulky or constrained like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. I'm coming out of a TNF Furano jacket which is a great jacket, but with 90mg of insulation, it's hard to fit a fleece midlayer underneath. The Andermatt is great for freeriding with just baselayer, or midlayer when needed. If you like the looser fit, this is among the best jackets to buy.
