Ortovox Pocket Spike reviews and deals for sale

The Ortovox Pocket Spike turns your Pro Alu III Shovel into an ice axe capable of self-arresting down sketchy, icy terrain or helping you ascend surprisingly steep alpine tours. This small, compact kit includes a spike and a pick that you can attach to the Pro Alu III's shaft for a fully-featured ice axe. Both pick and spike are so compact they could fit in your ski pant's pocket, but it'd probably be best to tuck that inside your ski pack so you don't have two sharp items right next to your body as you drop the dangerous steeps you just ascended.

Great assurance for the weight!

This is a piece of equipment that I carry often, but do not use often (but when I use it, I'm happy I did!). As a backcountry skier, I'm not always planning on entering terrain where an ice axe is required, but sometimes my objectives or the conditions change and I'd prefer a little extra traction. It weighs next to nothing and takes up minimal space in my pack, but in conjunction read more with my Pro Alu III Shovel (which I always carry), it can change my comfort level on spicier terrain. Works great in combination with a BD Whippet! I am a member of the Ortovox team and have been given this product to test and use.

A must have for any ski mountaineer!

In tandem with the pro alu III shovel this thing lives at the bottom of my pack at all times! It weight next to nothing and takes up little to no space! While I don't have to use it most days, the days when I wasn't planning to end up on steep firm snow, but do anyways, having an axe at the ready has been invaluable numerous times! Is this in place of a technical ice axe? No Is read more this even in place of a mountaineering axe? Not usually. But can this be a huge asset as a second tool or a backup tool when the day gets a little bit spicier than planned? 100% yes!
