Did not disappoint

Got a great deal from Backcountry (thanks!) then had to wait 7 months to test out my new Guardian Shell. Finally got it on the mountain, and It did not disappoint. First day was -16C and windy, but I was toasty in my Guardian Shell with Piz Boe insulator and Ortovox Rock'N Wool baselayer underneath. Previous reviewers are right - the quality of construction is top notch. The Guardian read more Shell stretch fabric feels great to the touch, much nicer than a comparable shell from Arc'teryx or others. It's supple and breathable, but perfectly waterproof. And the wool lining is similarly soft and comfortable against the skin. I do agree with a previous reviewer that it would be nice to have hand warmer pockets, and for someone with longish arms for his height, the sleeve length seems too long (I think the intent here is to cover gloves more easily, which, it does). Also note that the jacket zips from the left, which takes some getting used to. Overall, a great looking and wearing jacket that works incredibly well when used with Ortovox's other merino layering pieces.

Nice fit and fabric but design lacking

I like the color on this jacket and the fabric is stretchy and very comfortable. I could not believe there are no front hand pockets on this jacket though. I returned it for that reason. I am 5’11” 165lbs and the small fit well, fitted and not baggy and the fabric stretches.

Amazing Hardshell

Ortovox knows how to make great gear. This is another example of taking time to make it right. Every piece of this jacket is quality. Besides the quality of the jacket the color blocking is fantastic. It doesn't look like everything else on the hill or in the backcountry, and it performs better than anything else I've used. It is so nice my wife needed one for herself.

Excellent Hard Shell

I have used this shell out west and in the northeast for skiing. It was equally as comfortable and functional on a powder day in Utah as it was in negative temps and high winds in Vermont. When layered properly underneath, this shell is all you need. I use this jacket with the ortovox guardian shell pants and could not be happier. Wind proof and waterproof. I also use the midlayer read more merino fleece from ortovox and the merino layering system is fantastic. Very breathable when active and keeps you toasty warm when your idle in windy cold conditions. Ortovox makes a stellar product. A bit pricier than other brands but worth every penny. You pay for what you get. Excellent quality, functional and stylish the perfect tri-fecta.

amazing!!

These pants are a very european cut (i wanted that) so I really how they look. They do feel thin but in a good way. I have never seen pants with the velcro wrap around the midsection for lumbar support so I will get to test this out this winter :)

Ortovox Guardian Shell 3L Jacket - Men's Questions and Answers

Asked by Ben B. 5 years ago

I’m curious if anyone has had any problems with the zipper? I just bought the men’s version and I was surprised how flimsy the zipper seems. Considering buying this for my wife, but the Patagonia and north face 800 fill down seek to have heartier zipper
