ripped due to metals inside the hem

After only a few times of using the garment during the ski season, I noticed that the jacket is ripped exactly at two symmetric locations at the bottom of the jacket. Exactly at the place where the two cinches of the adjustable hem is located. Basically, the little metals inside of the hem of the garment have ripped off the jacket in exactly two symmetric locations. I am attaching read more pictures that shows the rips and the metal that caused the rips. These rips are at the bottom of the jacket. They are caused by the metal parts (and also the plastic cinch) inside the hem of the garment. They are exactly at the two symmetric locations where the elastic band of the hem comes out.

Color Difference

Just FTY I loved the jacket, but the black color was a more like a grey color if that matters. I think it runs true to size I wear a S in Patagonia jackets and I ordered a S in this jacket and it fit.

Great jacket!

I've been out 4 times now in this jacket, including an 18" powder day, and am in love. It's was great on the warm days with just a light fleece under it. And it was even better when the temps dropped and the wind picked up. I didn't think I would use the hood much, but I was so happy to have it on a snowy windy day. The powder skirt on this jacket is also the k my one I've ever read more had that's worth using. It actually stays out and doesn't ride up as soon as you start moving. I highly recommend this jacket. You'll love it.

Go to shell for deep days/backcountry

I love this shell so much I have it in 5 different colors. It's lightweight, but still burly, the colors are great, and the fit is great. The sleeves with princess hem on the cuffs are awesome easily adjustable for a great fit over gloves. good pockets, and keeps you dry on deep days . I would say runs overall true to size, except tight in the chest area

Shell To Thin For Longer Expeditions

This shell would be great for light snow or rain days. I was looking for something more substantial. Pockets are small and few. Fits great though with plenty of room for layers. Covers half way down your butt and doesn't expose possible skin when you bend over. The blue color is really pretty.

I use it everywhere

I actually purchased the jacket for skiing but since the zipper of my old hiking hardshell has given in, I am now using it as my year round waterproof shell. I own quite a lot of Norrona stuff and with pretty much all of their gear, it is of very high quality and it looks realy awesome too. There are a couple of things that Norrona could improve. E.g. the inner pockets are so read more tiny, that you can't even fit a small phone in there. At best it fits a small mp3 player. I also wished the jacket would have dual zippers. Another part that is not working well for me is the snow skirt. I used the jacket with its compatible pants but when attaching the snow skirt to the pants the whole setup was uncomfortable (could be my body shape). At the end I removed the snow skirt even when skiing and rather used the draw cord. Last but not least, I wished the hand gaitors would be removable. I don't find them practical. You either need real gloves or you don't.

no hand pockets

I love the fit of Norona - small shoulders and large chest in a size S that works better than other brands for me - but this jacket has no hand/hip pockets (the only pockets are at the chest despite what the description states); and that's a bit hard to take at this price point. So I don't know how that should change the star rating?

Best for running/biking/skiing in WI

This jacket is amazing! I live in WI and the weather here is cold, really, really cold. I actually use this jacket to bike to work in the winter. Crazy yes, but not with the proper clothing and this jacket is it! I have biked in temps of 0 with with winds 25mph, but did I feel it, no! I even stopped wearing a hat with this windproof hood. It is that good! So what am I wearing read more underneath? If the temp is below 20degrees I wear a lightweight smartwool and a mid weight smart wool with a zip up neck. Above 20 degrees only a lighter weight smart wool or icebreaker top. Thats it. This jacket breathes, it is so light, I seriously didn't think it could possibly block the wind/cold for me, but it exceeds my wildest expectations. I have also taken in running outside in 15 degrees and found it to be the perfect jacket for this also. We have also gone skiing together, for this I wear a primo mid -layer since skiing for me is pretty easy/ effortless and I needed a little more warmth since I wasn't working as hard. Almost forgot I have been rained on. Hard. But was I dry....yes! I also love the long cut on the arms, torso. I am all torso and not once did I catch myself yanking down on the coat or sleeves. I can also raise my arms with no movement of the jacket upwards...as in exposed stomach or crinkled shoulders! The snap seal is honestly the best I have tried. It is so sticky, no snow up my back or any yanking up while backcountry skiing. Downside for me: I purchased the yellow version since I like to stand out in urban traffic biking and it stains really easy and does not come out. I thought about switching to black but prefer to be a beacon on the roads.

Yeah found one that finally fits!

I purchased this after ordering at least three other jackets from various places. Nothing fit right. They were either too tight around the butt or too boxy in the middle. I was between a Medium and a Large in the Marmot, Mtn Hardwear, Fly Low, Mammut and the Patagonia...they just were off by a little in the fit. Ordered a Medium in this jacket and it fit PERFECT :) - I am 5'5" read more 155, athletic build with broader shoulders. Not too boxy but not to form fitting either. Skied 4 days in Utah with it last week and couldn't of been happier. Great pocket access w/ a pack on. Layered w/ down puffy jacket on colder days and fit was perfect. Hood goes over helmet (Smith Variant) just fine. Very pleased with purchase and if we ever get some decent snow in Tahoe I will be wearing it soon there. Color was great and kids could find me easily on the hill. Quality was good and liked the wrist cuff extensions.

Tweaked Fit

I had a Lofoten shell from 3 years ago, Norrona has changed the fit a bit. The shape of this jacket is significantly more hourglass now. The jacket flares out quite dramatically beneath the breast. I personally did not love this cut (I prefer a straighter cut) but I know women who do appreciate this more tailored look. I am 5'3" and 120 lbs and the small fits nicely with read more room to layer up underneath on cold days - even with a HUGE puffy. I hypothesize I could get away with the size XS, but I appreciate the extra wiggle room the size S affords. Construction, in true Norrona style, is totally bombproof. My last shell lasted over 200 days on the hill and backcountry touring. The ample pit zips provide huge opportunity for venting and are easy to reach and use - zipping action is very smooth. The feature I like MOST about this jacket are the very wide, princess style cuffs. They are fairly easy to wrestle over the gaiters of my mittens and I like that the cuff extends so far over the back of the palm. I do not like, however, that Norrona used two separate patches of velcro to secure the sleeve strap. I find that the EXACT place where I need to affix the velcro is the zone where Noronna did not put velcro. This doesn't make sense in my mind....not sure what they were going for there, maybe weight savings? It's a little silly if you ask me. The wrist gaiters are a nice feature - I prefer not to use them as I dislike the texture. I love that the powder skirt is removable. The silicone grip on that thing is SUPER sticky. It really helps to keep the jacket in place - I don't need it because I use bibs, but this is a really well-designed powder skirt. All in all a very durable, stormproof option for someone who logs tons of days on the mountain. Norrona is a brand I trust to get me through the nastiest storms.

What a Deal

I bought this jacket for my wife after I bought the same one in blue for myself(Got it in the outlet for almost half off the original price). Besides Haglof these guys are the best of the best in Winter gear. I did a ton of research before I shelled out the big $$$ for these products and Norrona does not disappoint. If your gonna shell out this kind of money for the jacket you read more def. need to get the matching pants, it fits perfectly together and with the zip seal system you'll never get snow in your booty again:)

Measure First

I should have known better, I bought the Yellow Saffron Norrona Loften Gor-Tex Pro Shell for my wife. She's always a size medium (in "American Sizes"), large is always too big, small is always too small for her. This product DOESN'T run small, it's exactly how Backcountry noted, look at "PLEASE NOTE:" above. I tried surprising my wife with it and bought a medium without checking read more the sizing chart, had I checked and bought the right size this jacket would have been perfect for her. Other than that, the jacket out of the bag was awesome. Great weight, features, feel, and it has the hour glass athletic fit. I'd put love it if we didn't have to return it....and now it's no longer on sale. Maybe next year I'll try again!

Large wrists for total coverage

The wrist sizes are pretty large on this jacket but it completely covers gloves & mittens. Very easy to adjust the straps and tighten around the wrists while you're wearing gloves. No more cold, wet hands after a yardsale!

100% Helmet-Compatible!

Amazing shell! I love this jacket. It is 100% helmet-compatible. There are a lot of jackets out there that say they are helmet-compatible but once you try and zip the jacket all the way up, it's way too tight on the face. This isn't the case with this shell. The hood fits very comfortably over a ski helmet and it can zip all the way up without being too uncomfortable. I'm 5'3'' read more and have this jacket in a small (size small helmet as well) The jacket fits true to size, with room for layering underneath (as it is a shell) I've worn this in really cold, windy conditions and barely feel any breeze underneath the jacket. The seams are taped so it keeps the cold out. 100% waterproof too. No hand pockets, but I like that since I barely use those pockets anyway. Two chest pockets, (goggle lens cloth included, attached inside one chest pocket) one sleeve pocket and one internal chest pocket. I HIGHLY recommend this shell! Also, I have this in the Yellow Saffron color- Nice and bright for snowy conditions when you can't see anything or anyone. Better to stand out than blend in!

Awesome shell!

I love this jacket. Fit is awesome. I had to size up a bit for the bust area. otherwise fits pretty true to size for an athletic fitted cut. Totally wind and waterproof and very durable. Colors are great, my brother can always find me in bounds or in the backcountry, even in a blizzard! Lofoten jacket at arapahoe basin, hike to the north pole, notch two chute.

LOVE IT!!!!

This might easily be one of the best products not only Norrona's, but on the entire gear market. Fits great, colors are very noticeable in the backcountry, which is not only pretty, but safe as well. Material is bombproof, yet light, by far my favorite jacket!!! I am 5'11" 155 lbs and got it in XL and have plenty of room for layering, as they run a little large, which is the case read more for most Norrona gear. I cannot say enough great things about it. note for all of you that are considering colors Pond and Northern Light: there's a mistake on this website, and the Pond color is really Northern Light and Northern Light is Pond. pond is the dark teal one with orange/pink/green zippers and if you want it you have to order Pond, not Northern Light. i got mine in Pond and it is B E A U T I F U L ! ! ! !

BombProof

I've had the pleasure of using an older version of this jacket. I've used a lot of ski jackets in my day, and this is one of the best out there. I've thrashed mine over 100+ days on the hill and the backcountry, and it still has tons of life left! It's durability is excellent, function and fit is great. I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone who spends lots of days out read more in the snow.
