Takes Any Abuse

Lightweight but tough. I live and ski in the Sierra Nevadas and the weather can be very wet. This jacket kept me out on the hill in even the toughest conditions. You won't appreciate how amazing this hood is until you've tried it out. Best hood ever! Sleeves extend over the top of the glove adding extra moisture protection in a great touch. Easiest pulling "pit zips" I've read more ever had, which matters. Bottom line, I ski every day (over 200 days this season) and this jacket still looks good, the color hasn't faded (which often happens in our intense California sunshine), and it still beads water like it did back in November. I like a more relaxed fit, so I upsized, runs true to size for a more modern fit. Highly recommended.

My first Norrona didn't last a season

I've been an Arcteryx man all my life, but when I saw this Jacket go on sale last year I thought I'd try something new, and retire my 8-year-old Arcteryx Sidewinder. The Lofoton shell looks great, fits well, and is comfortable for sure. I did notice immediately that moisture didn't bead up as well on the exterior as it had on my Arcteryx product, and that the fabric did not appear read more to be as sturdy. This worried me, as I ride in the woods all the time, but since my Sidewinder had lasted 8 years of being poked and prodded with tree branches and sticks, I thought a product marketed as comprable would hold up as well. I was dead wrong. On day 9 of riding, I brushed by a tree branch and the fabric ripped like tissue paper. Whoops. So now I have a $700 jacket held together with tape after just a few days of riding. Lesson learned - I'll save up a few bucks and buy another Arcteryx. No more Norrona for this guy!

LOVE It!!

I am 6ft 200lbs and got the Large. Fits fantastic! Love the color of Dark Ivy as the black zippers match the black zippers on my Norrona Tamok Grey pants. The material is SUPER breathable and pockets are generous. Snow skirt held up well with the insane powder days we are getting this year at Mammoth in California. Also, the front zipper opens to a vent hole. This honestly does read more a really good job. I have never had a vent on the chest and love it! Took it in the trees and it had no issues with barreling through branches. The fit was good up and down with room in the chest without being too tight or too loose. Pretty much perfect. I wish the wrist velcro straps were a bit longer to get varying degrees of tightness but honestly, this is so small in comparison to the entire jackets performance that I almost didn't want to mention it. Great jacket! Recommended highly.

Diesel Drew

With several other high-end brands, I found myself between Medium and Large. Medium would work if I didn't have to layer much under it, Large made me feel like I was swimming in the thing. The Norrona Large worked for me. Also, top quality everything, good zip locations, and the Hood goes over the helmet and sits right where it should. This is a remarkably well designed garment.

Fantastic!

A durable and reliable 3L GoreTex shell for skiing or other times you need a waterproof breathable outer layer. Love the brand! Designed by folks who spend time outside, trying the gear and perfecting the design. Sleeves run long, derby design, to give extra protection for the hands. Love the underarm zips (a must) and it has a removable powder skirt. One of my favorite hardshells. read more I have the women’s version. Contact me for fit or other questions.

Best.ski.gear.ever

So stoked with my new Norrona Lofoten set! It has pockets in all the right places, feels like a quality product and fits like a perfectly! I am European and would normally wear size L, but size M works really well for me (189 cm and 81 kg) Tested the new set this weekend in the bottomless blower Crystal Mountain, WA I would highly recommend the Norrona Lofoten series

Love it

I’ve has this jacket for three years now and love it. Gore Tex pro shell material can’t be beat for durability and true duck-like water repellent protection. I live In Breckenridge where it is notoriously windy and even on the worst days I just put my helmet-friendly hood up, zip up the high collar and enjoy my warm and happy little sanctuary until it’s time to get off the read more ski lift. My only gripe- and it’s a minor one- is when I’m skiing while it’s snowing I have to cinch the hood down around my jacket or the hood sucks all of the falling flakes in and deposits them inside my jacket on the back of my neck. After cinching the hood down there is an annoying little plastic piece on the end of the elastic that flaps like a flag in a storm and smacks me in the head when I ski. All in, that’s a pretty minor inconvenience and I’m sill very happy with the jacket.

The Best Shell Ever!

I have owned this shell for two years now and it has never let me down from the constant abuse I give it skiing in and out of bounds. Its light weight and can pack down really small to fit in your touring pack or for traveling. It always keeps me dry, even in some of the worst conditions. Wind doesn't stand a chance, with correct layering you will not feel any wind. Its very easy read more to stay warm in this jacket touring, sometimes too warm with layers and its also easy to dump excess heat. The size feels true to size, I prefer a bigger jacket and got the XL and it fits me perfect but the length is a little shorter then expected but not enough to bother me at all, it makes it more compatible with harnesses as well which is great. Over all, an amazing jacket to keep you warm and dry in those not so ideal conditions. This is a very high performance jacket and the 3L Gore-Tex is a must have for an outdoor enthusiast.

Nice fit no front hand pockets

I am 5 feet and 11 inches tall and 165 pounds and sometimes wear a small and sometimes wear a medium and in this jacket medium fit me well. I was disappointed there are no front hand pockets. I also found the fabric a bit noisy and crunchy and did not have any stretch so I return this jacket before using it. It seems to have excellent features and design except for the pocket issue read more for me.

seems well made

I havent had a chance to test the waterproofness or warmth yet because of the warm/ dry weather out here in Utah, but it looks and feels well constructed.

"No such thing as bad weather..."

When I moved to Norway a comment I heard many times was "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing". My initial reaction was funny - ha ha, as I arrived in Norway with high quality American brand outdoor gear. After seven winters in Norway all of the gear I brought had been replaced with Scandinavian brands, and primarily Norrona. Depending on your perspective, read more it is either over-designed and 'heavy' or bomb-proof. After many winter adventures in Norway, many involving unexpected weather conditions and some requiring unplanned bivouac in snow holes, I came to appreciate the Norwegian clothing design standard. The fit is different than many American brands and is consistent with a country of people who are generally thinner and longer legged than us. You need to be prepared to try the fit. I am a medium is almost everything but ended up buying the Norrona Rodal GT pants in small (separate review) and the Norrona Lofoten GT jacket in medium. I agree with other reviewers that the internal phone pocket is too small for the newer larger phones but I find every other design element to be great. The hand gaiters are perfect, the sleeve length is fine and being able to 'snap' the jacket powder skirt to the Rodal pants is great. I have Norrona gear that is 20 years old and still going strong. Based on my experiences so far I expect to have the Lofoten jacket for many years to come.

Best shell I've ever owned

I haven't bought a ton of shells or ever spent this much on one, but this thing is the bomb. Great fit, great look, sturdy, comfortable, and just fantastic in deep snow. I've only used it for lift-served terrain, but it's seen very cold weather in Utah, and very wet snow in the Sierra. Kept me warm and dry when everyone else was heading for cover. Love it. And with the awesome bright read more green color my wife loves that she can always see me in a lift line or on the slope. Look forward to testing it out for Alpine Touring later this winter. Definitely fits a more athletic build, it's relatively narrow at the waist. Made for a european fit. Probably the best piece of ski gear I've ever purchased.

GTX Pro Shell is Nuclear Bomb Proof

Okay maybe it could not save me from an a-bomb, but hopefully I'll be skiing pow in it if one goes off. The jacket is sick. Zippers are all solid, pull tie at bottom keeps it tight when I don't want to use the skirt. The seams are all taped with small tape, but sealed nonetheless. The sleeves fit me well, but I could see people with large forearms having issues with how tight they read more are at the bottom. The wrist gaiters take a minute to get used to be keep the weather away from your hands. I am 6 foot, 165 lbs, and the Large fits me pretty well. It could be slightly longer, but all the other dimensions fit right. I give it 4 stars for a pretty small downside. The issue is the inner cell phone pocket doesn't fit my Iphone 5s with a case on it. It might be the case, but I know a 6s or 6s plus would not fit either. Maybe it has been updated since my model, but I thought that was a slight bummer.

I'm back

Hi, I was going to return the jacket L because I feel little baggy. Fortunately I keep it. I cannot say about durability since I used 1 day, but it feels really good! Warm enough but more important super comfortable. Really love it!

One of the best shells.

First I tried with M. I'm 5'9" 190lbs. Didn't fit at all. Went to. L. I have to say the fit is kind of weird. Long arms, maybe not so long, but I'm not get use to it. Normally I wear M to have trim fit or L to have some room, but this L was loose on chest and arms and snug at waist. I'm using Arcteryx Crossbow M and fits perfect. It's an old model bought in 2011, but You can under read more layer ok. Don't get me wrong, I could use this jacket in L, but I prefer a better fit.

Excellent Quality

The fabric is great, very light and kind of soft outside. Definitely a premium shell. The size was to small for me. I took M, the arms are ok but too snug at the bottom. I'm 5.9" 190lbs, so I went to a large.

Fantastic Shell Jacket.

Just received this jacket yesterday so this is just an initial review as I obviously haven't even been outside in the jacket never mind skiing in it (it's July!). But I can say my initial thoughts are this jacket is incredibly well made. Top notch feel, seams, zippers, all feels very high end. I'm just under 6'4" tall, 200lbs, 42L suit size, 35" waist, and the XL fit perfectly. read more Excellent length of the sleeves and below waist/butt for great snow coverage. With it being a Euro company I think the overall fit is a tad on the smaller side even though I labelled it true to size, it is, but compared to a US XL it is on the "slim" side. I was worried i'd be swimming in an XL (like I am in my current Rossignol insulated jacket) but it's not at all. I debated between a L and XL but knowing I would be layering underneath I went XL and glad I did. I also bought a fleece jacket in Large to use under this jacket, perfect fit for me. I look forward to using it this season. Lofoten Pants coming next! *UPDATE* After wearing this Jacket several times now skiing in ranging weather conditions, I am VERY happy with it. In cold/windy weather (-5 and below) just be sure to bulk up on the mid layers but in the teens i've often had to remove a midlayer I was so warm. Access to pockets is great with the HUGE side openings and the hood is excellent, very easy to slip over my helmet. The fit and quality of the jacket is just so superior to anything I have had previously.
