February 21, 2019makes things safe and more efficient
I've got a whisperlite that I rarely use but you could probably weld some soft metal with. I'm using this shield on an alcohol fuel stove (beer can style deal) after finally burning through another one to the point of marginal functionality. The MSR aluminum is heavier but still malleable enough to manipulate so it fits my gear 'custom'. Certainly increases efficiency and prevents… read more setting fire to the immediately surrounding grass and stuff--especially if you use the base.

No reason to not carry this with your pack. Great heat reflector that cuts down on cook time.

September 10, 2013excellent
At first, it is a little annoying to get used to it. You have to experiment a lot to get it in perfect placement. But after a few trial and error you will love how better the stove works. My only complain is that you need to have a perfectly flat surface or it will be a pain to get it perfect.

July 11, 2013great insulator - way better than foil
this is a small investment that helps with boil-time and wind protection - folds up nicely, and I'd recommend it if you don't have something similar already. My MSR Whisperlite came with one.

September 3, 2012must have
the first time you try to light y& cook with our stove in the wind you will discover why this is a must have. keeps the heat in and the wind out.

March 26, 2012Life saver
Don't cook without reflector. The efficiency boost is amazing and the weight is nominal. Pack it, set it up and use it. Cook in cold temperatures without it and you could go hungry, or thirsty. Spend any duration in the alpine and you could run out of fuel.

Light weight and will come in handy on those windy nights when I'm trying to cook my meal.

December 23, 2010It helps
This helps in the wind / rain / cold. It increases the performance of the stove and makes for faster cooking times. I have had trouble with refolding this and getting it to stand right and effectively surround the stove. It is a lot harder to get the thing to 'close' like the picture shows. I usually have 1-2 inches of space where the 2 ends come together. I use this windscreen… read more every time I use my stove.

March 26, 2010Replacement
Just picked up this set to replace the original as it was looking a little shabby. Definately makes a difference in heating time even if you don't have a lot of wind to deal with. Just good accessories to make your stove burn better.

February 15, 2010Yup, It works!
I got the windscreen with my EGX EX stove. After figuring out that when you draw in the windscreen so that you have less than a half an inch between the windscreen and pot, it really speed up boil/cook time!

January 3, 2010Must have
They are made to the perfect dimensions that reflect heat back towards the pot or w/e you have on it, but at the same time giving the stove just enough oxygen to run at the most efficient level. You could make these yourself, but it is just as easy to buy them and believe it or not MSR put a fair amount of detail and thought into the design. It took them a few years to perfect… read more it, but take advantage of that and help your stove cook quicker and last longer.

January 7, 2009SPEEDS UP YOUR DINNER !
This wind shield and heat deflector really shortens your cooking time. I bought one only to realize that one was included with my MSR Stove. If you place a rock wall around the cooking area you will further protect the stove parts from being lost in heavy wind gusts !

January 29, 2008Good To Have When Necessary
Good to have when high wind conditions warrant use. A strategically placed rock wall will also suffice but is more problematic. Continuous folding will eventually cause tears. Try using heavy duty aluminum foil as a replacement. Cover the exposed portion of the plastic pump in case of flare-ups & heat build-up.

May 23, 2017WIll the windscreen fit over a stove screwed onto a 16oz fuel canister? The burner is typically about 8" off the ground with this setup.

February 1, 2016I'm worried about this oxidizing close to my wood-gasifying stove. What is the material?
