September 11, 2020Perfect jacket, runs a little large
This is my third Ghost Whispered. I've been wearing them into the ground for a decade. Super lightweight and easy to compress and store, surprisingly warm for such a lightweight jacket. Only complaint is that they run a little large. I'm 5-11 and a SMALL fits like a medium in other brands. But....I don't love a baggy fit. I prefer something a little more tailored. But that's just… read more aesthetics. Function over form. And this jacket has the edge on function compared to its competitors.

April 28, 2020NEVER BUY THIS JACKET!
I had bought one and I used that few times and it already has a hole in the back. My last jacket from another brand I used for more than 5 years and I have done a lot of mountaineering expeditions with that. However, this jacket I used only in the city, for less than 10 times and it could not afford a smooth atmosphere like that. If you are searching for a trustworthy jacket to… read more be a company in the mountains I strongly recommend you try a different brand. I am very disappointed with this product.

April 7, 2020Incredible Lightweight Down Jacket
I got this jacket back in November 2019 and took a few months to test it out before reviewing. Living in MN, we get cold winters and this jacket stood the test for the majority of the time. I would say, anything above 10*F it kept me warm with a long sleeve underneath, though I am a naturally warmer person. Hiking in it has been a breeze; kept me happy and comfortable pretty much… read more at all times. The sizing was spot on for me- I am 5'10", 165lbs, average build, and usually wear a M. Ordered a M, fits great. Only things that have bothered me a bit with this jacket is that: 1. The down fill has worn down on the bottom of my forearms from resting my arms on a table often; I've tried to move the fill around but still have had less in those areas. 2. Since I bought a M, it's difficult to add any bulkier clothing underneath the jacket. If you're looking for a new down jacket and are willing to splurge a little, this jacket lives up to it's reputation!

March 2, 2020Best Puffy Ever!
I've had a half-dozen puffies over the years - Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, TNF - and while I have loved those other ones, this is undoubtedly the best! Why? Because it's so lightweight yet so dang warm and toasty when it's freezy; yet is not too bulky or hot when temps are mild. It's the absolute perfect jacket for backpacking/camping because it weighs and packs down to… read more nothing. I've worn it in temps down into single digits and the teens and it's kept me warm while camping, snowshoeing and even sitting around (with the hoody up). It definitely blocks the wind and traps the warm air in. But I also wear it a ton even in mild temps like 50-60, and it's my favorite jacket to wear while traveling on a plane. I'm a girl and while I didn't mind the more fitted style of the women's version, I opted for a small in the men's so it would be better for layers and also a little longer length. The sleeves are a little long, but I like that (hand warmers!)

December 12, 2019Renown for good reason!
The Ghost Whisperer is an awesome solution for a bit of lightweight insulation; I see why it’s so popular among backpackers and the public alike. I found that it was a slightly more boxy fitting than a lot of MHW products, but still slightly athletic which I appreciate since that’s what fits me best. Good material, good fit, and a good amount of warmth for it’s size! I’ve… read more used a medium, but may try a Small for my slim 145lb body.

December 6, 20195,300+ Miles In This Jacket
When I purchase a piece of ultralight gear for a thru hike I do so with the expectation that it will last for that thru hike. Anything past that is an unexpected surprise. I thru hiked both the PCT and the CDT in the same hooded ghost whisperer. It may even still have some miles left in it. There were absolutely no failures (except for the occasional hole/rip from my carelessness)… read more of the jacket until around 4,000 miles. The shell started to wear over the drawstring tab and the cuffs of both sleeves at around that point. Then at around mile 4,500 the zipper began slipping and not closing the teeth. I cleaned and lubricated it several times. With no change I crimped the zipper with pliers and it was almost as good as new. Half of the nights on the PCT the jacket was exposed to pretty extreme moisture (because of the shelter system I was using at the time) and though the loft had noticeably diminished by the end, a thorough wash with a hydrophobic down cleaner and a long tumble dry brought some of it back. Even after putting another 2,700+ miles on it, this jacket has still kept me warm enough to quickly pack, eat, and start hiking before getting chilled, even on mornings in the single digits. For the weight, function, and durability I feel that the price is a bargain and I consider it one of the most important and one of my favorite pieces of gear.

November 20, 2019Ssshhhh it's sleeping
Big fan of this jacket by Mountain Hardware. Its very light, soft, and stylish. Really enjoyed the elastic wrist cuffs and the hood fit very well. I did however feel that sometimes the material used to make it water repellent can be a bit squeaky at times...but maybe that's how it communicates with ghosts?

November 5, 2019Fur for humans
A supremely packable and layerable down jacket for any outdoor pursuit - climbing, skiing, backpacking, you name it. Punches above its weight in warmth and has the perfect amount of down and trim fit to slide into any layering system. The Ghost Whisperer has an ultralight face fabric, for a burlier version with ripstop check out the Phantom as well.

November 5, 2019In-Between Sizes...
I love this jacket but unfortunately I am in-between a Medium & Large... I am 6 Feet tall 190 lbs with a 42 in chest... The medium would fit me perfectly but is too tight in the chest. The large is noticeably baggy in the chest/torso and the arms are an inch longer so I just can't make it work. I am pretty bummed out as this is a really nice jacket...

November 1, 2019Love Love
I'm a women but wear this jacket in the Men's because there are more color options (need need more women's options in general). Im 5' 8" 145 and think the Men's Medium fits great and leaves a little room for layering. Definitely a staple jacket, super warm without being huge and bulky. Go to jacket!

October 14, 2019Light & Warm
I was super surprised at the warmth to weight ratio. It is very warm for how light it is! I wore it over a tee-shirt in windy 30 - 50 degree weather and was very comfortable. I also don't overheat when I'm inside which is very impressive for a down jacket. I've gotten multiple compliments on the look as well. What more do you need? Side note, the fabric feels thin, I haven't torn… read more it but I'm scared that I will--something to think about.

October 13, 2019Fantastic Warmth and Weight
Impossibly light and packable. I really love the fit of this too, perfect for us tall and slim folk. This is my favorite lightweight puffy on the market right behind the Mountain Hardwear Phantom.

October 12, 2019Light, But Heavy Duty Jacket
I really love this jacket! The weight of this jacket is just awesome. It is a very light jacket as you can see from the specs. It is always nice to have a jacket that doesn't feel too heavy and isn't too bulky. This jacket does just that. I was up in the mountains during the evening in the fall and was worried that with how light and thin it looked it wasn't going to perform that… read more well. It kept me warm all night though. The stuff sack that you can stuff this jacket into is also really handy. It's really nice for when you are hiking and don't need it you can stuff it away and clip it to your backpack. I was really surprised by how small it was when you packed it down. It really would be a game-changer for backpacking. I would say of all the other jackets I have researched this is a personal favorite.

October 9, 2019Great down layer
I've had this jacket for several seasons now and it's served its purpose well. It doesn't have the bulk of many other down jackets making it awesome to layer under my shell jacket. I've never been cold with this system and it looks good on its own as a casual outer layer. My only gripe is that the zipper broke after a year and half which means I can now only use it as a layering… read more piece and just use a safety pin to keep it together. I get that it's lightweight but would love a heavier duty zipper.

March 27, 2019Warmth Without the Bulk
I recently purchased my Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket for a trip to Colorado. What a great investment! When I received the jacket I couldn't believe that it was light as a feather. I was a little concerned that it would not be live up to it's reputation as far as keeping me warm. March 7, 2019Great Jacket
I got this as a gift for a friend and he said "This is a great jacket, slim fitting but not too tight and uncomfortable; I can still move around and not feel trapped. It is also super lightweight and warm, its my first down jacket and so far there is nothing to disappoint. Just an FYI, the fabric is shiny! Overall this is a great coat and I'm looking forward to years of use!"

March 1, 2019Love the Ghost Whisperer BUT
The 1018-2019 Ghost Whisperer seems to be cut slimmer than before. I bought an XL to replace a 4 year old XL that was lost in an accident last month. This one is super tight across the chest. I returned it for a XXL.

January 5, 2019Best Jacket I own
This jacket is the best insulation layer I own, I love that it packs into it's own pocket and how small it compresses. for mountaineering it's the best medium layer for 14ers.
