Expectations not met

After researching and comparing different multi-sport hard shell pants, I was excited to get these pants. I originally purchased the 30 and 32 regular (normally a 30 waist). Ended up getting the 32 cause they ran slim/tight compared to others. The vents, the adjustable gaitor, the removable suspenders, the two-way crotch zipper are all wonderful. The pants fit well and keep the read more wind and wet out. Unfortunately the durability is lacking. My 3rd time wearing the pants skiing they tore from a simple fall. They tore again while on a trip on Mt. Rainier when practicing self arrest. To compound the lack of abrasion resistance, the company was highly unresponsive when contacting them about repair/warranty. Eventually after reaching out to the 3 times they finally got back to me. I was informed that tears are not covered under warranty, and they do not do repairs themselves. They told me of a place in Washington state that has about a month waiting period where I could send them, or to use tenacious tape. Given the price of this item, lack of durability using them as intended, and poor customer service on the part of Mammut, I wouldn’t recommend this pant. Especially when other companies like Patagonia will repair their products without charge. Love their belay devices, won’t purchase any soft goods from them again.

Loved For Ski Touring the Wasatch

Really great pant for just a simple backcountry ski pant. Vents on the side allow for heat dumping and keeping yourself the perfect temp on the hike up. The waterproofing also works super well. I toured in a super wet spring storm last week and these totally kept me dry, no leakage at all. I also noticed the difficulty of how the cuffs fit over my boots, but that was minor and read more my only complaint.

Proven flimsy under repetitive use

These pants were used mountaineering in Patagonia for 40 days and were a regular pick when heading out backcountry skiing. I loved them everyday I wore them. Over time they began to show their flaws. The extremely lightweight material can not withstand repeated abuse. A $600 dollar pant should be able to withstand expedition use. The first problem came when the stitching on the read more built in gaiter began to come undone and detach itself from the pant. Then a large rip developed in the back thigh of the pant. I chalk these problems up to the material being too lightweight and not strong enough. Other than the issue of strength the pants are awesome. Just do not buy these if you plan to give them heavy use. Because they will break sooner than you expected and you will be disappointed....like me....

This Pant Has It All

I got these for my brother to use, but when it comes to functionality, the Nordwand pro's are the be all end all. Non-restrictive for any uphill travel, Gore-Tex Pro for ultimate durability and it comes with all the bells and whistles you could as for in a pant. Definitely has the European sleek look, but it fits true to size,

Whoa!

Worn as a shell for snowboarding, these are such an incredible pant. You get all the customization in ventilation that you want, breathability, waterproofing, and good looks! The only drawback is that these aren't necessarily built to accommodate huge snowboard boots. Otherwise, these will be the go-to pants for anything technical, casual, recreational, etc.

Worth It!

Totally worth the investment if you're in the market for a gore-tex shell with amazing breathability. I sweat like a hog so Im happy I got something that has awesome heat dumping capability without compromising on durability and function. Held up great on a multiday backcountry ski tour wallowing in a snow cave and a ski up a windy Mt Adams in WA. Comfy for ski/bootpack ascents read more and bomber for summits/wind/descents. Runs a bit small so get the next size up.

Active Shell Pant For EVERYTHING

These pants are really amazing! Completely waterproof! I use these pants for ice climbing and skiing. One of my favorite features is the adjustable gaiter along with the adjustable leg straps on the outside of the pant. The Gaiter slims down for when you're trudging through snow on the approach and then is wide enough to accommodate ski boots. The Leg straps on the outside bring read more the cuffs close to your leg reducing the likelihood of a crampon strike. The GENEROUS Dyneema-reinforced seam edges really help with those crampons as well. I did have to send these pants back to Mammut because of durability issues. I cut and tore a few things here and there and stitched them up myself, but the attachment point for the suspenders in the back tore out. After contacting Mammut about it, they sent me a new pair hassle free! SIZING: Beware! These pants run small in the waist. Usually I am a size 34, but the 34 they sent me was like a 32! Size up one size or even two sizes if you want space for extra layering. The Velcro closure straps on the waist will tailor the fit and bring it down if you're wearing it without many layers. I usually just wear some thermals underneath the shell and I'm good.

Bombproof second skin

I bought these for the primary intended use of ski touring and ski mountaineering in the Sierra and Rockies. So far, I've been overwhelmingly happy with these pants. Waterproof: The Gore-Tex Pro does its job here. The Sierra is known for its wet storms, and this kind of waterproof layer is a must-have if you're going to be out in those kind of conditions. Durable: Here in the read more Sierra, our snow season has been a bit slow to start, which means there's been a lot of boot packing, bushwhacking, and scrambling to get to snow line. These have held up really well so far after climbing up/over rocks and through lots of underbrush leading up to the snow. Fitted: These fit really nicely. They're not baggy at all--quite the opposite--but maintain an excellent range of motion. Each leg has two velcro straps on the calf (mid calf and upper calf) that help cinch the pant leg around your boot and leg to keep the elements out as well as keep the fabric on your legs from rubbing against each other. Feature rich: A few things jump out. The 3/4 length leg zippers are great for ventilation while ascending. Reinforced fabric on the inside of your lower legs is helpful in case your boots or crampons graze your legs. Suspenders are the way to go. The fly is a 2-way zipper that opens from top or bottom (didn't see this being very helpful at first, but it's actually great). Boot gaiters have lots of room for adjustment depending on the circumference of the boot you're wearing. Suggested improvements: It's hard to think of much I'd change about this pant. If anything, I'd ask for an additional pocket or two on the top or side of the thigh. The pants only have the two primary pockets, and it'd be nice to have a tiny bit more storage space for odds and ends. 10/10 would recommend this pant. Enjoy!
