Mammut Barryvox S Beacon reviews and deals for sale
Compared to the standard Barryvox, Mammut's S Beacon has more advanced features that appeal to experienced mountaineers and guides. That's not to say this beacon is too advanced for beginners in the backcountry; on the contrary, it still features the same beginner-friendly interface (single switch, single button, and separate flagging button) that makes the standard Barryvox so easy to learn how to use. In fact, the Barryvox S features a smart search display with a dynamic icon that moves with you down slide paths and assists in proper probe planting to refine your avy techniques whether you're practicing or using what you practice for real emergencies.
Along with this smart search display, the Barryvox S also shows a similar readout to the standard Barryvox, with distance, direction, and number of burial victims showing clearly whether you have goggles on or off. Since there's more information on the display, Mammut made this Barryvox S Beacon's screen slightly larger than the standard model.$499.95

Mammut Barryvox S Beacon Reviews

February 28, 2020Simply the best beacon on the market
I love the Barryvox S. The beacon is easy to use and outperforms other beacons on the market by reach and signal strength. I have taught a few friends to use the Barryvox S and its intuitive usability even in stressful situations is above the rest. I feel comfortable going in the backcountry with people who only have a couple hours of training under their belt with the Barryvox… read more S. This would not be the case with other beacons as they do not instruct the user what to do!

January 24, 2020The Best!
I have been using a beacon for well over 20+ years. I have had a number of other brands but the Barryvox is by far my favorite. It is simple, easy to use, powerful, and fast. I only wish all my friends had them so I would be certain they could find me if needed.

August 19, 2019Good, reliable beacon, advanced features
This is a good beacon. I've used it in three Av courses and a bunch of backcountry treks. Advanced features but they don't get in the way. I wouldn't complain if they made it smaller, half the thickness would be awesome. Like any beacon, you have to train on its idiosyncrasies. One of this one is that you need to make sure you're not reading the bearing and distance faster… read more than it can update, and when you get to the > 10m to < 10m threshold, you better go slow so the final bearing is right on, other wise the final search will take longer.

April 1, 2019Awsome Beacon!
This is a great beacon for anyone looking to get into backcountry skiing. It is incredibly easy to use out of the box and as your skills progress you will be able to dive into more of the advanced capabilities. Also, I like how this beacon will switch from search to send after four minutes of inactivity.

March 29, 2019Easy to use.
I wish I had loads to say about this beacon but in comparison to my tracker 2 that I used for the past few seasons its a bit more accurate in search mode. It has some pretty cool features by being able to mark multiple victims lock the location and then head towards the next. It has all the cool features but it is a great beacon for beginners because how user friendly it is … read more

December 6, 2018the best beacon on the market
Hands down, this is the best. It has all the bells and whistles. Its easy to use and sends out a reliable signal. Beacons are the pieces of equipment you never hope to use, but if yo have to use it you'll be glad to have this one strapped to your chest. your touring partners will be stoked too!

November 15, 2018All the bells and whistles
70M range, three antena, sinple user interface, alkaline batteries, and auto switch from search to send when it senses you haven't moved after 5 minutes. This beacon gives me all the tools to have a successful rescue, and the confidence that I can be found if I were to be burred initially, or even after a second slide. It's not about having the right gear, its about knowing how… read more to use the gear you have. That being said, this beacon is top of the line so when you put in the time to become familiar with it, you'll be confident that you can make a difference.

January 9, 2018Even Better Than the Pulse
For the past three years, I used Barryvox Pulse. This year I upgraded to the Barryvox S. Here's what I've found so far: Simple to use out of the box or if you want to take advantage of the advanced menu functions, adjusting options is now a breeze. The button and menu set-up is only a little bit different but much more intuitive and easy to move through. During multiple burial… read more scenarios, the S locks more quickly on the second/third burials signals after marking the previous one. The larger screen on the new S allows for helpful information icons and prompts to guide users through the search process. While the Barryvox Pulse is still a top-of-the-line beacon, if you're in the market for a new beacon, the āSā is a strong choice.

December 19, 2017way simpler than I thought
Great beacon. Range is only a little longer than my Pulse, but a lot longer when the beacons aren't lined up exactly. The navigation is way easier than the pulse. The description makes it sound like this is only for advanced users, but really most of the features are useful for anyone and you dont need to do anything to use them, it's automatic. My buddy who is a beginner was… read more doing 3-burial searches in under 5 minutes within one short parcitice session. The only thing that is for experienced people is the pro search, which is still easier than on my pulse, and anyone who is going to practice micro strips will want this.

March 13, 2018Does it still detect if a victim is breathing? The old ones could detect micro movements.
