Okay for the price

If you want a basic boot to get out there and climb than these are fine boots. Probably better suited for spring mountaineering boots but I have used them for pure steep ice. My only complaint which is a big one, is the fit. I have no idea what the La Sportiva designers were doing. Sizing is fine but the top of the boot fits extremely tight. So in order lace the boots up tight to… read more prevent heel lift you will definitely cut of circulation and your toes will freeze. So the boots are not warm at all. The will work with single pitch chill days at the crag but I would not recommend them for multi pitch.

Excellent and Stable Boot

Absolutely loved these boots. My own fault that I did not properly break them in (at all) but my first use was a 4 day hike/climb in Wyoming (Gannett Peak). Put 60 miles on them and they really held up under all types of terrain. My feet were pretty shot by the end, but I attribute that to the actual hike and not the boot. Handled snow and crampons with no problem. And given the sturdiness they are fairly light. I usually wear size 11-11.5 and the 44.5 fit perfect with hiking socks. Overall, a quality and versatile boot. Would definitely recommend this boot as it can handle a wide range of terrain

Great all mountain boot

I bought these boots for a Mt Kilimanjaro trip. Over the course of 6 days (Marangu route) and 42 miles, these boots performed great. What really surprised me from the get go was how comfortable thses boots are. For a mountaineering boot that is capable of WI3-4 climbing, these are great hiking boots. Perfect fit with a pair of medium wool hiking socks. Will bring thses along on my next ice climbing trip to see how they perform. Wish they had a toe bail for automatic crampons. They do have a heel welt for crampons. Overall a great boot and would buy again. REVIEW UPDATE post Mt Kilimanjaro: These boots exceeded my expectations. We did the 5 day Marangu route which is about a 42 mile round trip. No blisters, hotspots, or complaints. The boots are flat out a great hiking boot. As far as the ice climbing, they're legitimate WI4 climbing boots. I didn't climb anything steeper. I used the BD Cyborg clip crampons with the universal toe bail and heal clip in. The crampons and boots are a great setup. As a comparison my normal ice climbing setup is the La Sportiva Nepal Cube GTX with the BD Stinger pro crampon. The Trango Towers and Cyborgs are almost as good. Pretty amazing when you consider how good the boots feel when hiking. La Sportiva I think just released the Trango Tower Extreme GTX which is the newest version of the Trango Tower and will accept automatic crampons. Don't know how the new version will hike but if they're the same as the regular Trango Towers that might be the boot to get. Overall, I am updating my rating to a 10 out of 10. La Sportiva really knocked it out of the park with this one. Hope this helps and good luck with your adventures.

Solid Under Foot

Finally got a chance to put these boots through the test. Climbed Ljuboten in the Å ar Mountains in Kosovo yesterday and these boots gave me everything I asked of them from start to finish. They are still fairly new and not once did I have to adjust the laces from start to finish. They performed as well as I could have ever imagined underfoot from scrambling up, to a solid… read more decent on a wet and unstable surface. At first I thought they looked a bit clunky, but I was able to move fast and with precision on both the ascent and descent before an incoming storm moved in. Next week I will be in Switzerland and I can’t wait to see how they perform there. I have no doubt that they will be up to the task.

So Far So Good

I went a half size larger than normal and they are a bit tight. After a short five mile hike I can see where they are going to break in. I am spending the next year in Europe and hope to put them to good use. Ankle support is above what I expected from the get go. I’ve got a pair of the Trango Trek boots that I love, but they are nearing the end of their usefulness. Is the sizing on the Trango Tower going to be the same?

How flexible are these for the approach? I am looking for a 3 season climbing boot for climbing in the Cascades. Trying to decide between these and the LS Tech Leather. I don’t mind some rigidity for crampons but most routes have a mixture of scree and snow.

Hi there, Does this boot fit true to size? I am planning on using it for ebc and 3 passes trek in nepal. Would it be enough to go half a size up to fit thick merino socks. Thanks
