tough reliable wicking adaptable

6’3”, 170 lbs; i buy all icebreaker bases in men’s medium; all their bases work for me, but oasis 200 fabric is the toughest IMO, i.e., it resists snagging on branches and rocks and crampons and such; i have tried all icebreaker layers, i like the lycra in zone200, i like the softness of tech260 as a winter sleep shirt, but oasis is definitely my go-to shirt base most days; read more also, i put it on damp out of the washer, stretch it out while damp, sleep a night in it starting out damp. i am pretty mean to my stuff making it adapt to my back, shoulders, chest and arms; i find this fabric is pretty formable/shapeable/customizable as regards fit; guys my size shouldn’t be afraid of size medium; it is a baselayer after all

Bomb proof shirt

I used this shirt on a 25 day crossing of the Greenland ice cap as my base layer earlier this year. I had a 2nd one with me but never felt that the one I was wearing needed to be changed. I just wore the same one for the whole trip. The oder proofing really works. I felt warm next to my body and never got clammy like some base layers get when wet with sweat.

Cut changed

I liked the old cut better on these things. I tend to double up on the base layer and like a tighter fitting shirt underneath a looser fitting shirt. This used to be my go-to tighter fitting shirt until the cut changed.

Great for a variety of activities

I have worn the BodyFit 200 Oasis Baselayer for a variety of activities now, ranging from elk hunting in Wyoming to a February ski ascent of Mt Elbert in Colorado (both in subzero temperatures). I wore the BodyFit 200 Oasis Baselayer top and bottom and they show very little ware despite the rigors I have put them through. Overall, they wick well, stay warm, and do not itch at all read more (always a plus with wool). The only recommendation I have is that they make colors that really stand out more, that might help consumers not accidentally wash/dry them with regular clothing (i.e. make the sorting process easier since black and grey don't really distinguish them).

Works great. Holds up well.

I was given this product from Backcountry to test out but this is my personal opinion. I’ve had the time to put this (and the same grade base layer bottoms) though the wringer over the winter. The fabric has held up well to multiple washings. The fit is slightly loose and almost too short, however I tend to wear a tall as I have a long torso and slightly shorter legs for a person read more 6’4”. For the average person my size the XL is probably the right fit. Size large would definitely have been too small. I consider myself to be in decent shape at 190lbs and it fit good in the shoulders, waist, and sleeves. If you want snug and longer than this isn’t for you. I normally wear it next to my skin and layer up from there. Overall I was happy with it, though at the price range you may find similar tops where the fabric feels smoother on the skin. I wear these often for skiing, cycling, etc. and while it was warm it was not as soft/smooth as others. That’s the reason I gave only four stars.

Great for Ski Touring

These base layers work well for ski touring, I layer them under a softshell in the Wasatch. They breath and dry well.

Great base layer

I wore this shirt on a cross country ski trip in the Sierra Nevada's in California. The shirt kept me warn when it was cold but I never felt clammy when it warmed up

Puts the old ones to shame!

I got this for my Step dad for the ski season since his other ones were getting old. This is what he had to say: "Oh boy!! This base layer puts all of the past to shame!! I loved my old mid-weight icebreaker..like 12 years old! It is still going strong but for the holes in it.. Yet this new guy is a whole league apart! Tight weave, great fit, balanced warmth and weight! I am so read more happy! Thanks icebreaker for making a full time base layer…"

Add This to Your Wardrobe

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I got the 1/2 zip version of the Icebreaker Men's BodyFit 200 Oasis. Prior to this my experience was with the 1/2 zip mid-weight base layer from Smartwool (which I love), but I will definitely be adding this to the repertoire. This is a great base layer. I live in the warmer climes of Las Vegas, but read more our winters can get a bit chilly (relatively) - especially at night. I wore the Icebreaker quite a bit over the past month, including activities such as some light jogging in the evening, some Muay Thai practice in my unheated garage, as well as just out at dinner or around the house. The Icebreaker base layer was great in every instance. I felt it transitioned well (going from Muay Thai in the garage to relaxing in the house, for example) without being too cold or too warm in either case. The temperature regulation was great. Speaking of which, I don't tend to sweat a ton, but no one complained about any kind of stink. Maybe the wife is too polite to complain, but my teenage kids would have said something if I was offensive. The wool does its job. I typically wear a medium in shirts because while I am tall-ish, I am not very big (kinda skinny). In this case I got the large bodyfit and felt it was the right choice. I fear a medium might have been a bit too tight and short in the arms. Your mileage may vary, of course, depending on what you find comfortable, but I think this base layer runs a little small. I haven't had this piece long enough to comment on its durability, but because I've worn it so much I have washed it a few times already with no problems relating to color fade, shrinking, or frayed seams. Overall I really dig the Icebreaker Men's BodyFit 200 Oasis. It's comfortable and does the job. I've asked my wife for more this Christmas.

Five Star Base Layer

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I want the reader to be aware, as part of the testing program Backcountry wants honest reviews, the good, the bad, and the ugly. With that being said, I've worn multiple brands of base layers over the years and the Icebreaker Men's BodyFit 200 Oasis is now my go to. I have the 1/2 zip version of read more the top. I'll start with sizing. I am 5'11", 165 lbs., waist 32", chest 40". I tested a size medium top and medium bottom. The fit for my build was spot on to the sizing chart. I have included a photo so you can see the fit on my frame. The fit of the top around the waist and chest are not compression tight to the body like Under Armour but it is a tailored, athletic fit. If you want the top layer to be tight against your entire body like Under Armour you may want to order a size smaller. Personally I like the fit. Transitioning to performance. This product hits all cylinders. I've had the Icebreaker Oasis 200 for about a month now and have worn it about ten times. I used it running, mountain biking, hiking, and working outside, still lacking the snow coverage to test it while skiing. I'll start with the good. You know you are going to sweat during aerobic activities. The Oasis transfers the sweat away from your body well and dries quickly. A huge bonus is that compared to my other synthetic base layers this one shines in the smell department. Usually after a day of use my other base layers ripen. I was amazed that after a run I let it hang dry without washing and it smelled fine the next day, and the next, and the next. To me this a huge bonus for multi-day trips when space and weight are key. The warmth to weight ratio is great. I have wet suits lined with merino wool and the Icebreaker Men's BodyFit 200 Oasis reinforces why. As I previously stated you know you are going to sweat during aerobic activity, this base layer seems to do a better job keeping you warm while it dries. Another bonus is the 1/2 zip looks nice enough to wear as is when you grab a bite after playing. Regarding durability, the jury is still out on this. I have only had the Oasis 200 for about a month; however, so far there are no issues. The quality looks good for its intended use. I have a front-loading washing machine and I hang dry so I have not tested it against an agitator or heat. The ugly: it's not inexpensive; however, based on its performance it's worth the cost.

Not recommended.

Yes, the Icebreaker 200 is very comfortable as a base layer, and I've owned more than 5 of these tops throughout the years. However, the quality is suspect. While it fits true to size, it is prone to ripping and tearing, due to the very thinness of the garment. have had this shirt rip on me more than twice, due to the lack of durability. While it is comfy, this product does read more not last. if you're looking for something that is durable and lasts, this is NOT your best bet.
