HOKA ONE ONE Evo Speedgoat Trail Running Shoe - Men's reviews and deals for sale
HOKA ONE ONE's standard Speedgoat trail running shoe is more than serviceable for long runs on mountain terrain and local trails alike, but if there's one thing that shouldn't surprise trail runners it's that some people won't settle until they nail down the longest runs in the toughest terrain they can find. If you've always got your eyes on a tougher task, then lace up the HOKA ONE ONE Evo Speedgoat Trail Running Shoe and head out for steep climbs, rugged descents, and lots and lots of hard-fought miles. Essentially a more durable and responsive version of the Speedgoat 3, the Evo Speedgoat has been outfitted with a super-tough MATRYX fabric in the upper. MATRYX combines engineered mesh and KEVLAR to give you a comfortable yet highly tear-and-abrasion resistant upper that's ready to charge through the mountains without slowing down for a second.
Speaking of not slowing down, the Evo Speedgoat features a more responsive midsole compound than its standard counterpart, making it a bit easier to put in the work during rugged ultra-races and all-day training runs. The signature HOKA max-cushioned midsole absorbs shock on hard and rocky surfaces, and helps give your feet some of that comfort your legs, arms, and lungs have been looking for. A strip of Lycra fabric above the toes ensures a snug, supportive and adaptive fit as you ramble across rocky ridge lines, while the Vibram Megagrip Hi-Traction outsole delivers unrelenting grip on ever-changing trail surfaces in any and all conditions.

I researched a few different options before pulling the trigger on the EVO Speedgoat. I wear the Hoka One One Cliftons for road running and find this to be a similar fit. I was concerned that some reviewers find the shoes a bit narrow. I initially had the same concern when I put them on my feet, but after moving around in them a bit and taking them on the trails they seem to… read more loosen up and be very comfortable. That said, if you have wide feet or really want a very roomy toe box you might consider other options. For me, they are perfect for general trail running and lean more towards a running shoe with a trail sole vs. a hiking shoe for running.

My first run in the Evo Speedgoat left me a little underwhelmed in all honesty, it feels exactly like the speedgoat 3 but with a higher pricetag. The fit for me is a little more generous than the speedgoat 3 due to the thinner upper material and reduced toe bumper. At first that was the kicker for me, as someone with a narrow foot the speedgoat line has been perfect for me for… read more those easy days and super long days. However, on my second run I had a massive thunderstorm descend on me very unexpectedly turning the trails into a stream. That same thin upper that I wasnt exactly sold on turned out to me exactly what I wanted, drains like a charm and doesnt stretch when it gets wet (a major problem for a lot of trail shoes that just lose all lock down after the first stream crossing). Although the fit isnt quite as secure for me through the front of the shoe I am willing to just crank the laces down a bit more and enjoy the toe splay a bit more than I am used to in the speedgoat 3. Someone with a wider foot who has been on the fence about the speedgoats in the past will be relieved to find out that these are a more generous fit. The same reliable multi-directional vibram megagrip lugs and pillowy cushion are something that I have come to love about the speedgoat and there is no change here. I cant really tell much of a weight difference but I know its there and would add up over an ultra distance, Hoka claims a half ounce drop per shoe. Overall I would recommend these for someone looking for a shoe for longer trail races who wants to drop a little weight but keep the same cushion, but in all honesty I am a bit more of a fan of the speedgoat 3 which has a better price tag and more security for my foot shape.

These shoes are incredibly comfortable! I would be able to run in these for hours and wouldn't feel any aches or pains because of how comfortable they are. Great for long trail runs, getting back into running, or even long hikes. I am super happy with these shoes, and would recommend them to anyone who wants some cushion in their shoe.
