Keeps you conscious

Endurance athletes can be at it for hours on end, and much of the time the body doesn't have the sugars to last longer than about 1.5-2 hours. Gu gels help provide sugar for your brain and keep you awake. I have definitely felt my vision get fuzzier and my reaction time get slower when I go to long on a run without one.

Great Gel

I like to keep either these gels or some chews in my jersey for emergency energy at the end of a long ride. I like both the strawberry banana and the chocolate (which tastes like cake batter). They can be a little messy if you are not careful, but they go down really easily, and you can feel the sugar hit pretty quickly. Note that some of these are caffeinated, and some are not, read more which might make a difference for you.

Love the flavor!

First gel that I actually enjoy. The salted caramel is really good. Might be a little too sweet for some. But these are great energy boost. Package opens very easily, so they are good for race day when you are on your bike and don't want to struggle opening your food.

the quick fix

I use these right before I am about to take on a particularly difficult section of a ride (ie: big climbs). They work well, but to many on an empty stomach does not go well for me.

Gets the job done

It gets the job done but it's not my favorite flavor. The salted caramel and the Chocolate Outrage and Smores are my favorite!

Salted caramel. Tastes like love. Proof? I was riding with my kids, and my 7 year old said he was dragging. I had a GU in my bag, so I gave it to him. He KILLED it. Never heard so much as a whinge for the rest of the ride. Now he wants to eat them as a snack. Uh...no...those are mine....

Good quick energy

Good for a quick boost while running or riding and be sure to wash it down generously with water. Wife likes Strawberry w/ no caffeine. I like Salted Caramel and Plain. Orange and Lemon lime are ok but only in winter.

Gu-d Stuff

I have just recently been using different energy gels for my hiking, biking and fishing excursions and tried out Gu gel over a long weekend of backpacking, and was very happy with the results. After climbing Mt. Hatch I downed one of these because I was starting to feel the burn and could tell that my energy stores were running low, the caffeine and simple sugars provided me with read more the boost I needed to take the treacherous descent down without crashing. I tried the Mandarin Orange flavor and the taste was okay, but I just sucked it down and chased it with a swig from my Camelbak. One note, Gu like many other energy gels will leak and get your pack messy once the gel heats up after you have eaten most of it, so really squeezing out every last drop is definitely beneficial to you and your gear.

keeps you stable

I always assumed that the energy dips while hiking (both mental and physical) were always going to be a standard for me...that is until I used GU and used it as directed (every 45 min). I've stopped counting down miles, minutes, etc and keep focused and calm and moving whether it's a long backpacking trip or even just a 1 hour bootpack to skiing. The flavors are great, and a great read more treat is spreading the salted caramel, vanilla bean, or peanut butter on a chocolate bar...delicious.

Best Flavor: Salted Caramel

Never thought I would applaud an energy gel for its flavor, but the Salted Caramel is good. Great. So great that I'm worried I'll need to grab another box or two in case it truly does end up as a limited time production. I like that it's a lower caffeine option (20mg). Previous favorites have included Mint Chocolate, Peppermint Stick, Espresso Love, and Peanut Butter. But Salted read more Caramel definitely takes the cake in my book! I take one of these mid-way through long runs greater than 10 miles.

These complete me.

These complete me. When I am on the bike/running/trail I pull one of these out to give me that blast of nutrition to keep me killing it. These are super easy on the gut and allow me to feel confident that they will give me what II need to get the job done.

My favorite chew

This chew does the trick and out of the other options, in my opinion, it gives me the best energy boost. Decent taste.

A good option

Gu seems to be one of the more difficult brands to find in stores in my area, but I do like it, especially the peanut butter. I find Gu to be one of the thickest gels out there and the flavors are never overly strong, but PB is a great option that I don't think anyone else makes. I like to have a variety of gels and Gu doesn't disappoint.

Thicker Than Other Brands

No chemical taste. You have to like peanut butter and if so than you will like this. GU seems a bit thicker than other brands but it may just be the peanut butter flavor. No to sweet and goes down better than the chocolate.

worked like a charm

I've used this product and flavor on multiple 20+ mile runs and it worked great. I wasn't too sure about the peanut butter flavor but surprisingly it has turned out to be my favorite of all the flavors. Definitely 2 thumbs up and going back for more now.
