Tough air permeable shell. Our high end shell. read the other reviews and then break out those credit cards.

25 reviews. ALL 5 stars.

The title of this review says it all. I have 18/19 model year. If you want, and can afford, the most bombproof and stylish freeride and snowboard jacket on the market, there is no reason to look anywhere else.

Great Ski Coat

Very happy with the fit and performance of the Lab Coat. Excellent wind blocking capability reduced the need for multiple or bulky base layers during 7 days of skiing in 15 - 30 degree temps, but with 10-20 MPH sustained winds & gusts up to 40 MPH. As other reviewers have noted, the fit is roomy enough to accommodate multiple layering options, but wears well if worn by itself. read more Pockets size, location, and count are always an individual preference feature; however, the Lab Coat pocket design fit my needs quite well... Easily accessible and did not interfere with backpack. Hood fit perfectly over helmet and stayed in place during runs. Paired with Flylow Chemical pant and MH Stretchdown DS jacket.

Love this Coat

The colors on this coat are great and pop really well. The shell is protective and blocks out wind well. Cuffs are large enough to fit gloves underneath. The coat also fits super well, it is large enough to fit several layers under, but doesn't look too big by itself.

Awesome jacket

This is one of the most versatile jackets that I've used. It's breathable for the skin track but also durable enough for day to day lift access skiing. I dig the subtle but stylish colours. The Lab Coat is great for touring and packs down well, and I've had zero issues with construction. Great jacket!

Best Pocket Desing

I have been so pleased with my Lab Coat. It fits great with room for insulating layers underneath and has the best pocket layout. Two large external chest pockets easily fit climbing skins or extra gloves and then with two smaller external chest pockets on top for phone or sunglasses etc. The design keeps the waist belt area pocket free for increased comfort and mobility.

GREAT FOR EVERYDAY

The Lab Coat is rock solid for Vermont's wild variety of weather. It blocks the wind and keeps me warm and dry in blizzard conditions, but is light enough that I can drop a puffy layer and not overheat when VT thaws. Boo rain and ice, but yay slush bumps and pitzips ;) I'm 6'4 and 190 lbs and the XL fits great - long enough arms!

Great in all weather

I got this mid-February, skiing in Maine. Have now used it in temps from single digits to 55 F and in sun, rain, and snow. Rain can be nasty but after 2 hours in pretty heavy shower, I was completely dry--at least top. Pants soaked, and so I went back and ordered some matching Fly-low pants as well that just arrived. Surprisingly even in the warm rain, the eVent fabric seemed read more to both keep rain out, and let the coat breath so I didn't get damp from sweating. The slightly longer coat length keeps back covered. A small detail--but the velcro on the sleeves and relatively thin fabric allow you to cinch these tightly so your gloves slip over easily and keep wrists covered. The hood is fantastic as others have mentioned. Just flip up over your helmet and zip up the front of the coat and the hood stays put--does not impede at all on peripheral vision, or hang over the top--I did not generally need another head or face covering with it--although driving snow can find its way inside along ears--so maybe then something additional--but amazing that just flipping and zipping gives such a good cover--and it keeps the rain from running off your helmet and down your back. I'm about 6'1" and 240--the XL fits perfect--and XL for shirts and jackets is what works for me--so true to size. Since it is a shell, you will generally need to layer in cold weather. Under coldest temps I had a long-sleeve merino wool base layer, another 1/4 zip heavy merino wool mid-layer, and another full zip knit sweater--stripping those down as spring arrived--room for all of that in the cold, but the cut retains a slimmer look--not like an overstuffed bear--even at my size.. The shell alone would make a fine jacket for hiking even in summer if in colder mts--e..g Maine.

Incredible Jacket!

I use this jacket primarily for touring. I have been very pleased with the functionality and versatility of this piece, and have been using it and testing it out extensively while touring this early season. The two chest pockets provide a quick stash spot for skins after you reach the top of your objective. The shell itself is lightweight and very packable, as well, which makes read more shedding layers incredibly easy. I have had no issues with zippers catching, which is definitely key while making smooth transitions between pieces. The shell is also incredibly breathable, and works nicely to keep heat in on stormy days, and keep cool air flowing on the sunny days. Two pit zips allow for a nice flow of air if you need it. I really enjoy how compatible the hood is with a helmet as well. Often times I've found that a hood will either have slack and obscure your vision, or will be too snug and prevent head movement. This hood moves seamlessly with you, and does not obstruct vision, or prevent movement. Overall a solid and ideal piece for the person logging many days in the backcountry.

Lab Coat, light and sturdy

I love this jacket because it is super lightweight, very packable and ultra sturdy when it comes to blocking wind and water. It's breathable, and has great features while staying simple. This a very versatile jacket for in-bounds and backcountry skiing.

Great backcountry jacket

Really love this jacket! Functional, comfortable, durable, and stylish. So far the e-vent material works just as well as my other Arc-teryx Gore-tex jacket and the additional pockets make it my preferred choice of the two. I've tested it with a few longer (and COLD) backcountry days and find it really comfortable with no friction points. As it's a hard shell it's not overly insulated read more which makes it great for long days of skinning, and paired with a down mid-layer it works great for resort days too.

Sick Jacket!

I bought this for my boyfriend for the upcoming ski season. Here's his initial take: Sick jacket! Has all the features I want and no more. Lightweight but very durable fabric. The cut is a little shorter than other jackets but that being said I am 6’2” so most things run short. Large worked well for me though. Sleeves were plenty long.

Favorite Coat

I have skied in a lot of great shells in the past, but this one is definitely my favorite. From rain to colds smoke, this coat has definitely been through the wringer. I have been testing this coats durability at Crystal mountain this season and it has never let me down. I cant think of any other shell I would want to spend my ski season in.

Bomber!

Everything that I could want in a good hardy shell is in this coat. Pockets on each side that are easy to access with gloves on, a killer fabric, and great colors. There's just nothing extra, nice and simple, very functional. I like mine a little big, hence the large size

Dominates all conditions

I've been thoroughly impressed with my Lab Coat. It's handled whatever I and Mother Nature has thrown at it. It feels good to ski in, a tribute to the fit and wind and waterproof protection. The brand holds true to the core principal of durability and function with the Lab coat. Skiing through branches, willows, climbing rocky sections and normal abuse hasn't left a damaging read more mark. I'm 5'9 170lbs and prefer the large for the fit and option to layer the Larry vest and Sinclair Insulated flannel . Or the Rudolph Down on cold days after topping out on an ascent. The rib pockets are deep and spacious so throwing in gloves, a can of Red Bull or extra set of goggles is no problem. Thanks Flylow! Your gear rocks!

Looking fly in the flylow

Bought this as gift and he loves it! Originally bought a XL and it was a little snug. Worried about mobility when hiking in the backcountry. Returned and got the XXL. Buying active wear for a bigger built guy is tough, glad the XXL fit!

Greatest Jacket Ever

I am 5'8, 215lbs. I'm what they call "stocky". Slim fit does NOT fit me. You get the picture. Anyway, I bought a large in this jacket. The fit I prefer is more of a baggy snowboarder, yet I ski. The jacket fit ALMOST great, just a LITTLE small in the traps and chest area. So I returned it and went with an XL and I LOVE it. Super duper water proof. Hood goes over my helmet read more no problem. I have Flylow pants and a mid layer too, but I will review those at a later date. Flylow is the BOMB. Most ski clothing companies are made for up tight, snobby rich clean cut people. Flylow is made for the true hardcore, cliff dropping, relaxed fit wearing skiers. If that's you, then Flylow is what you should go for. Cheers!

Great Jacket

I have the older version of this jacket that has a full collar and a hood. I was disappointed to see they got rid of the collar on this version as that was one of my favorite features. The fit is true to size, I bought a medium (5'10" 175#) it fits great, but on really cold days when I layer a down sweater over a fleece, it is a bit tight through the chest and shoulders. If I read more was going to buy again, I would probably get a large. I like the pocket placement, and the coat has proved to be durable over the 2 years I have had it. I would recommend this coat!

Amazing Jacket

The Lab coat is the perfect balance of breathability and protection from the elements. It’s my go-to jacket in all conditions. This is a bombproof shell carefully designed for true skiers. Another great Flylow product.

Are there wrist gaiters or thumb holes? That seems to be the only feature missing on this jacket.
