After 2 summers . . .meh

I wear an XL in everything except for this shirt. Got it in a Large so it runs big. I got it because I'm not a sunblock fan and this shirt does keep the burn off. I wear it on hot hikes in 80 degrees or more and after a couple summers wearing it, its pretty hot and doesn't vent very well. The back is the only vent and while wearing a backpack, it isn't all that great. I am going read more to be looking for a different sunshirt this upcoming summer that vents better.

Honest: This may be the perfect shirt

I love this shirt for many reasons, but I think the secret to the Silver Ridge Lite is in the fabric... a very light weight yet visually appealing and nicely draped cloth with a virtually indistinguishable 1/16 inch box-outline pattern that attributes structure and adds a good amount of tear resistance. This is a light, breezy, easygoing shirt. I have other ‘synthoshirts’ with read more the visual appearance (and feel) of colored Plastic Wrap... but not this shirt... This shirt just always looks crisp and feels good, and is comfortable to the point of being hardly noticeable against the skin during activities in heat and/or sun. Stains liftout easily; it dries (hanging) in no time; scant wrinkles when laundered in traveling conditions. Honestly, everything about this shirt works. Sleeve length is right. Torso length and width are right. Simple venting is right. Pockets are right. Collar has good structure. Button placket lays flat. Buttons are solid on. Untucked, the tails stay nicely flat. Sleeves are comfortable rolled and buttoned up. In style in a sport coat, fishing, hiking, or digging post holes. Great for travel... nice Color range and upscale appearance means i will always be at least marginally presentable. I can pack 5 of these shirts in the space of 3 of the Alt Brands.... just sayin...

Runs large

Columbia makes excellent quality products. I have used their Silver Ridge LS for many years, the same one, in fact! This summer, in a new more humid backcountry climate, I decided to go with the Lite in the hopes that I would still get the same quality garment with a lot less sweat. Unfortunately, when I ordered the LG (same as my original Silver Ridge), it fit me like a deflated read more hot air balloon. They must have changed their target market because the difference between their LG and just about every other Outdoor Gear manufacturer's is quite "big." Needless to say, I returned it and never ordered a correct fit. Out of fairness, I can't give 5 stars to something I didn't test out thoroughly, period. But I was able to tell the construction was solid and the material was light and felt comfortable (i.e., little to no Nipple Chafe Potential, that's important and you know it is) so it receives 4 stars from me.

A total hit!

I gave this to my brother in law as a gift to be used on his honeymoon where they planned to be out in the sun all day hiking and exploring in the Azores. He has recently returned from this trip and has reported that this was a total life saver and a huge hit. Very comfortable, light weight, and a shirt that will be regularly used.

very nice shirt

I got the steel color in medium and I really like the feel and the fit. I normally wear a large but like everyone says get a size down and its true. Medium fits great.

Very nice!

I've used this several times now. It vents incredibly well, but also can retain a little warmth on a cool day as long as you have some sunshine. It really vents the heat. Perfect for warm hikes during the bug season. Everyone who sees it comments on how nice it looks and they all just have to touch it to see if it feels as soft as it looks. Yep, it does. Feels like silk against read more your skin. The roll up sleeves are a nice touch too. Very convenient. The biggest thing to watch for is the sizing. I'd say that one size down from your normal size should be perfect. I have a 44 inch chest and 32 inch waist with average length arms. I initially bought a large and it was beyond huge. Then tried the Med and it's perfect. I can still wear a light layer beneath it if needed, but it's got just the right amount of looseness to aid the ventilation properties. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if a small fit like a glove. I'm not willing to try one though since I don't take a small in anything. Size down and you'll be glad you did.

Nice for casual

Nice casual relax style. Not a big fan of the collar, but everything else is nice.

farmer gift

Gave this gift to a farmer who works hard in the sun every day. Nice to have a durable yet light weight and breathable shirt that blocks the UV rays.

This Shirt Can Go The Distance

I purchased this shirt for my 2016 thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail and it was the perfect choice. So far the shirt has lasted well over 2,650 miles of backpacking use plus rivers of sweat, dozens of washings, and months of direct sunlight. While it has discolored a bit, there are no tears or fraying and I haven't lost a button. I still wear the very same shirt whenever I go read more hiking or backpacking. This shirt is breathable and verstaile—the sleeves roll up easily and comfortably if it's hot out, or you can button it all the way up if it's getting chilly. The material feels light and smooth enough that chafing has never become an issue for me. And it fits loosely enough that mosquitos have trouble biting though. Finally, it just looks good. Unless you have something against hiking in a collared shirt, I'd say this shirt is perfect for most outdoor activities, and espcially backapacking. It's easily one of my favorite pieces of gear from my thru-hike, and I'm seriously considering buying a few more just so I'm set for life.

Very light shirt

I got this shirt for work doing inspections outdoors. It looks really slick and quas- professional enough for my line of work. I got lots of compliments and people asking about it at the office. For hot days it's great. Very breathable and the ability to roll up the sleeves helps immensely. My only qualm was the sleeve length and it's fitting. I'm 6'3 180lb and the sleeves were read more just a hair too short, but not unbearable by any means. I picked up the large and it's not an athletic fitted shirt, but my frame is wide enough it looks just fine. It should fit a person of "average" height just fine.

Lightweight yet well-made

Great shirt thus far. Seems well made, with the exception of a couple loose threads that pull away easily (no stitching came undone). Ordered both the fossil and deep water colors. Love the fossil, and deep water is a very nice dark teal color. True to size, maybe a little large. But sleeve lengths are perfect. Most mediums have sleeves which are way too short for someone 6' and read more up.

Deep Water Color Not As Expected

I ordered the Deep Water color that appears to be a fairly deep blue on my monitor. Deep Water - deep blue. Sounds logical. Deep Water is instead a middle toned teal and not deep blue at all. I initially planned to return it but, since the company charges the customer $6.99 for return shipping, and, the color is not bad...but not what I expected, I will keep it. If the item is read more not as described on the seller's website, the seller should pay the return shipping like Amazon does. If you like teal (more like a forest than water), this is a good shirt for you. If you're looking for a deep blue color, don't select Deep Water.

Great lightweight shirt

I bought this shirt in a large. It fits really well (I have broad shoulders) and is super comfy. I've only worn it once at this point, but it breathes well in 85 degree heat.

Light-weight shirt for the hot days

I bought my Columbia Silver Ridge Lite in "Steel" and sized medium. I'm an avid paddler, lift on a regular basis, and run 15-20 miles a week, so I'm broad-shouldered with a lean/athletic build. I wear large in most brands but medium in this shirt has the length of a large and fits the shoulders like a large. So far, I've worn this shirt out around town and for hiking up and down read more beach trails. Even with its darker color, the vents and lightweight fabric kept me from overheating in the mid 90 degree weather in the Hampton Roads area. The sleeves have a buttoned keeper to keep them rolled up, but I wish they kept the sleeves rolled above the elbow instead of just at the elbow (a personal preference, not a problem with the shirt itself). It has been thrown in the washer and dryer a few times and hasn't shown any wear. It hasn't gotten wrinkled so far with me taking it out of the dryer while warm. I like the look of the shirt and my wife loves the color. The vents and overall look of the Silver Ridge Lite is more subtle than my Columbia PDF button-down shirts. That subtlety makes it a nicer shirt for wearing around town on a hot day without looking like you should be on the water fishing.

What is the difference between the Silver Ridge Lite and the Silver Ridge Long Sleeved shirt? In the description the only difference is the upf protection. Thanks
