Bummed about these paddles !

I am a returning backcountry customer and have always found BC products to be flawless. I received these paddles quickly but when I tried to put the two halves together the fit was so tight that both halves stuck, are terribly misaligned and now I can't get them apart. I ordered two sets and the next set I had to deburr the receiving end and file the rough edges on the other half. read more That 2nd set is now usable but still difficult to take apart and put together?. The first set that is stuck and misaligned is not usable at all. Not sure what to do with either set. Bummed that the quality is not as good as what I thought they would be but hey, they were cheap paddles. Pay for what you get I guess.

Perfect backup

This is a really solid, durable paddle that you don't have to worry about accidentally dinging against a rock and seeing the shaft or paddle break. It's heavy and clunky looking, but if you just lost your main paddle and are sitting in the middle of the lake, you're not going to care how it looks while it's getting you back to shore without swimming. I've kept this as a reserve read more (or extra for a friend) paddle for a while now and will always recommend this to people who are looking for a backup. It's cheap yet reliable. Nothing fancy but gets ya from A to B.

My back up paddle

This was the first paddle design I used when I got into kayaking. It's a very solid design, and is excellent for making technical strokes it allows you to direct a lot of water with each stroke of the paddle. This for me was ultimately a draw back, though likely no fault of the paddle. I have lower spine damage and was dealing with a great deal of fatigue, even with proper form read more it seemed that after long days on the river I was dealing with a good deal of back pain afterwards. I've since been using a more contoured paddle the Bending Branches Whisper and it's greatly improved my own stamina. The paddle itself remains in the repertoire, and is in the kayak as a back up on longer trips. When the paddle first arrived I did have to make a quick modification with my dremel as the hole and stainless steal button which connect the two sections of paddle did not align. Again in all a fine paddle, certainly does what you would expect it to do, and it is a fine budget option.

Good second paddle for friends to use

Bought this for friends to use on my second kayak. They have no complaints although it's easy to see it's a 100% basic paddle. It you're looking for something that looks nicer, look elsewhere. But if you want something that works perfectly fine for what it's designed for, this is your paddle.

Great paddle for the price!

The 90 inch size is too small for standard IK's.

Bombproof

I have used these paddles for over15 years with hardley a problem. I have IKed thousands of miles of class 3-4+ whitewater, many of which were multi-day wilderness trips with large loads. While heavier than most, I have never had one break. I have seen dozens of other paddles break during that same time, from cheapos to carbon fiber spendy paddles. A little extra weight is worth read more it to me.

Good for a spare

I bought this for a spare when doing the river in my duck. It appears to be very tough but it is very basic and heavy. The blades don't have as much power as the curved blades and the handle joint is a little sloppy. It does have two feather postions. The handle diameter is comfy. I would get it again as a spare but it would not be my first line paddle. Good value as a rental also.
