Brunton TruArc 20 Compass Reviews

October 12, 2018Very displeased
Reading the description, it seems like this is a good compass to correct a lot of the annoying things on cheaper compass models. I was down for it, pay a little more, you dont need to worry about the needle dragging, its better in elevation, easy to use. Etc. Well that is not the case, the "global needle" is constantly dragging on the bottom. The illimunious points on the direction… read more arrow bumb and hold the magnetic needle. I also dislike the deg circle. It has the normal deg, but it has the opposite direction reflected, this could be useful but all i find it does is clutter the ring. Instead maybe they could put NSEW on the corrosponding deg for ease of use. Which is not present. The mirror is a weird shape that is small, why not just put it all across the cover? The reference cards are kind of nice, but instead of a normal ruler like scale they are in brackets.... like... why? The instructions say this is able to freely find north even at adverse angles. Making it good for hiking. This is total crap, its super sensitive to angles and i find that if it is flat, it still drags on the bottom. Unless i tilt it twords the magnetic needle its just annoying to use. Oh and the illuminescent nature of the compass sucks. Very hard to see even in pitch black. The construction is nice, good quality. But with the price point, this compass shouldnt have these issues. I am returning this, not very happy, would rather use a walmart compass. At least their needles dont get stuck.

June 29, 2018Remarkable Disappointment, Returned It
I own and use several compasses of many manufactures and types. In particular I have a Brunton Eclipse 8099 which is a predecessor of the Truarc 20. I found the Eclipse to be a very good instrument...rugged, easy to use and accurate. The TruArc I received was poorly manufactured. Loose capsule and flimsy in construction. The needle bumped the bottom of the unit and did… read more not settle well. I decided to instead buy another K & R compass. At this point the only Brunton I would purchase for outdoor recreational use is the lightweight Com-Pro Pocket Transit. Perhaps i received a defective TruArc 20? Based on other reviews that may be the situation.

March 5, 2017I once was lost, but now I am found
Actually, I never get lost. Ever. But it's nice to have this to ensure that streak does not end. If you're putting together an go-bag for the apocalypse, put one of these in!

December 30, 2016Easy to use, very durable
This was my first real compass and will probably be my last. One of bruntons most durable and includes all the features needed. Measure distance, inclination, direction easily and know that it's a product you can trust. Highly recommend.
