Good Reviews

I've heard tons of positive feedback on Black Diamond shovels, so I had to pick one up and try it out for myself. Out of the box, it is very sturdy and made with quality materials, does not feel flimsy at all. Excited to give this a try.

Great size and shape

This is a great backcountry shovel. It's lightweight, sturdy, and fits in most packs pretty easily. It's quick to assemble and you can move snow quite efficiently for a small shovel.

perfect companion

I never go to the mountains without it and it sometimes gets a good workout at home too.

Great shovel

It looks like BD has made some major improvements over the previous Transfer 3. This season's model is more squared off and not as round. It has a flatter bottom and it moves snow really well. Haven't had to dig anyone out with it but I have tested it out and really don't have anything to complain about. I do agree I wish I could combine the longer shaft with the quick assembly read more of the Deploy series, but this is probably the best choice for an all around utility shovel.

Not bad

This was my first BC shovel. I have since acquired the BD Deploy 7, and I wish I could combine the features of both into one shovel. The Good: Sturdy build. Fits well in pack. Long shaft length. Not so good: Shovel blade is fairly small. A bit slower to assemble than the Deploy series. I didn't put this shovel through the ringer but I have no doubt that will last a read more long time, and get the job done when it counts.

Moving Snow

I have the older version of this shovel and it works great. It is a very high quality tool. It's small enough to fit well in my pack, but big enough to avoid any headaches when digging. It's also nice to have the handle length that you want.

Solid shovel

I've never had to dig someone out in an avalanche, but I've dug snow pits and practiced with this. It's light , very easy to assemble (even with gloves on), and WICKED sturdy. Nothing flimsy about it. A shovel should be simply designed and easy to use. This piece of equipment nails it.
