Black Diamond Punisher Glove reviews and deals for sale

Lots of manufacturers make extremely warm gloves that turn your hands into useless paddles. That isn't the story with this glove. The Black Diamond Punisher Glove blends unsurpassed dexterity with full weather protection and is designed for long alpine routes or ice cragging in variable temperatures. The Punisher has a fixed lining and a BDry waterproof breathable liner to fight off the weather. The four-way stretch shell provides a full range of motion, extremely important when you find yourself 80 feet off the ground on a frozen waterfall. The 100g fleece lining is warm but not overbearing, easy to move in, and soft to the touch. The pre-curved fingers are designed to feel natural when wrapped around an ice tool. The Punisher also sports an ultra-durable goat leather palm and EVA foam-padded knuckles to protect your fingers.

Dextrous but finnicky

I echo the other reviewers. The pros: this glove offers medium-to-high warmth and protection while maintaining a lot of dexterity. Has been very durable so far as well. The cons: not remotely waterproof, and once the glove gets wet, it's very hard to get your hands/fingers back inside the glove correctly. The individual finger liners get twisted close, or stick to your skin read more in such a way that putting them on becomes hard. Sometimes you really have to fight to put them on.

Expensive and useless glove

Purchased these before an ice climbing trip to Colorado and found them to be useless. Could not get them on between pitches. Instead, I used leather belay gloves with army surplus liner gloves inside. Purchased the Punisher in XL, but it feels like the liner is a Medium. With hands completely inside the glove, there's still outer glove extending past my fingertips. This makes it read more impossible to do anything with a rope.

Good Dexterity, Bad for In and Out

Once this glove is on my hand, I have great dexterity and have never had an issue with warmth/waterproofness. As with other gloves in BD's lineup however, the glove liner seems to move around excessively inside the outer shell, which can bunch up and cause issues when taking the glove on/off repeatedly. If you sweat more than average or plan on having to take the glove off frequently, read more it can be difficult to get each finger back into the correct position until the gloves dry entirely.

Go-to ice glove

I have two pairs of Punishers, the oldest probably 10 years old. They have been my go-to ice climbing gloves for years - just the right balance of warmth, sturdiness, and dexterity for most climbing days. I've worn these down into single digit temps (F) and survived. The leather is tough enough for raps, the softshell has held up (mostly) to the injuries of ice climbing, and even read more the old pair remains fairly water resistant. I have yet to find a climbing glove that stays waterproof for very long; these have done better than most. I do tend to swap out gloves when it's cold out - warming the Punishers in my clothes while I belay in mitts. That lets me push the Punishers into colder conditions than I might otherwise. I've tried thicker, warmer gloves, and found that I don't have the dexterity needed to tie knots and handle gear reliably, so for me Punishers are as warm as I'm going to use. I'm a medium in most BD gloves, and these are no exception - a good fit with a bit of extra material in the little fingers. I will note that my oldest, most heavily-used, pair have stretched a bit over the years, and are now getting a bit sloppy. I may have to move them to belay/rap/utility role and use the newer ones for climbing. Given how long I've used my old Punishers I suppose that's to be expected. If I needed climbing gloves right now, these would be first on my list.

Excellent Winter Ice Climbing Gloves

These are excellent winter ice climbing gloves! Warm enough to avoid the screaming barfies while still dexterous enough to put on crampons, tie knots and place screws. The fit in my Nomics great! They’re a little too warm for shoulder season climbing, but for mid-winter ice climbing in RMNP they’re tough to beat!

Well made, way too small.

Bought the XXL size as most XL BDEL gloves are tight on my hands. These XXLs were as small or smaller than XLs. Mistake in labeling? Don't know, have to return them because they won't work for me. Nice glove otherwise.

Great Gloves, Maybe a little bulky

I have used these gloves a few times. They are very warm. I used them snow blowing and shoveling our large driveway the first time. Hands were warm and dry. Second use was Ice Climbing and again they performed well. I was using the Petzl Nomic tools and hadn't adjusted the grip as I didn't have a metric allen wrench to do so. Other than not fitting well in the grip of the tool read more they worked great. Warm and dry after all day. If you get them for Ice Climbing make sure the tools you own have adjustable grips. By the way, I have really big hands so factor that into your decision.

Perfect glove for above zero

This is my second pair of punishers, and only because I lost my first pair. Great dexterity and durability. Not the glove for zero and colder though.

Shred On!

This glove is great for resort skiing! With the 100 grams of synthetic insulation it ensures that you will have warm digits all day long on the mountain. Black Diamond gloves have a great fit, and with the stellar warmth of this glove it makes for a great choice for some lift accessed shredding!

Well balanced glove

Great balance between dexterity and warmth. Probably sacrifices something at the extremes of either measure, but for general purposes (and more I'm sure) these are a great investment.

Well designed glove, bad size chart

Size selected according to the size chart was way too small. Could barely, painfully, squeeze my hand into the glove. Had to go up a size. If the glove don't fit, you must acquit!

Great glove

These gloves definitely met my expectations. I bought them knowing they're probably not the warmest glove out there, which they're not, but they are perfect for backcountry touring and ice climbing. They're plenty waterproof and provide enough dexterity for ice climbing and putting a splitboard back together.

Solid glove for climbing/skiing

This is not a bad glove. Decent fit, if not slightly bulky. If your moving your body (ice climbing/ski touring) then it's been enough to keep my world-famously cold fingers warm enough in temps that have been around -7 deg C. Good waterproofing. Decent breathability, but in the highest output can be a bit clammy. Sometimes didn't feel extremely dextrous when working protection read more on ice routes, but that's something you have to live with. I think these gloves strike a decent balance in terms of weight, warmth, comfort, and usefulness in multiple winter outdoor pursuits. Just bring along some belay mittens.

a bit bulky

description calls it a climbing glove; I prefer thinner / more dextrous gloves for climbing. I'd use this for skiing anyday, though! also, it passed the "submerge in a bowl of water for two minutes" waterproofing test. well done, BD.

Great!

These glove are very warm and allow you to do things with great dexterity! Most gloves are bulky but I was able to tie my shoes with these gloves still on with little difficulty. They are great! Best $100 I ever spent!

Warm and tough

The gloves are tough and dexterous enough to tie knots without a problem. My hands stayed warm and dry for both days of ice climbing and they dried super fast each night. The medium size gloves fits pretty snug so if you're going to use an extra liner you may want to size up a bit.

Warm and Dexterous

Most bulky gloves lead to lost dexterity and eventually cold hands from gripping tools. Not these bad boys. I put them to the test on a particularly cold day in the White Mountains and my hands stayed warm and nimble.
